The Poké Ball didn't even shake once before it burst open in Julia's hand, causing her to fall on her behind with a start. The Pidove cooed cheerfully, flapping his wings without actually taking off.
"So is that a no?" Julia asked.
The Pidove tilted his head with a quieter coo, as if he didn't understand what Julia was asking. Julia tilted her head in the same direction, just as confused. He had broken right out of the Poké Ball but hadn't fled; in fact, he seemed happy to be here.
"Maybe I have to throw it?" she asked.
The Pidove cooed inquisitively. Shadow shrugged. Well, it was worth a shot, Julia supposed. She stood up and tossed the Poké Ball underhand at the Pidove.
Julia uses a regular Poké Ball!
