Having reached Cedar Town, the first thing Sonia had done was take her Pokemon to the Pokemon Center for some care. Thankfully for the most part everyone had just needed some rest, other than Mizune. Just as Sonia had feared, the rocks had indeed done some minor damage to the Lapras's flippers. They would likely leave some scars, even if she had administered a potion right away. Even so, Sonia blamed herself a fair bit, if she had gone to Cedar right away maybe the wounds would have been cared for sooner, and they surely could have done without that battle with the beach girl.
Sonia puffed out her cheeks angrily at the thought of that battle.
But now it was a few days later, and Mizune was fine. Her flippers had healed nicely, the only downside to her recovery was her school, or was it a herd, had likely swam off by now.
So Sonia had decided the best course of action was to see how the Lapras swam, and decide things from there. But it was looking a lot more like Mizune would be staying with Sonia. That didn't change the fact she wanted to see how the Lapras swam and do some training together. It would be a good chance to bond. So having purchased a new blue swimsuit, a one piece with ruffles and a skirt edged with white and a white filigree decorating it, she made her way to the 'Kiddie pool'.
Only to find out, that it really wasn't. Her jaw fell slack at the sheer size of it as she grabbed a life jacket. No wonder this was the best place to train water types. This pool was amazing.
At the same time though, Sonia was very intimidated by it as she left her small bag of things (mainly her other pokemon) far from the edge so they wouldn't get wet. Than Sonia sat at the edge of the pool, keeping her life jacket off but by her hand as she released the Lapras.
Mizune blinked, startled by the feeling of proper water under her before she was splashing with glee. And this was why Sonia had moved her bag so far back. Nonetheless she laughed at the Lapras's playful antics before the dual type was swimming to the edge of the pool where she pressed her head to Sonia's chest for pets which Sonia was all to happy to give.
"I thought we'd try some water training together. Is that okay?" The young woman asked, getting a soft cry and more splashes from the Lapras. That was definitely a yes, which had the girl smiling.
On his trip from Plum to Bass, Lionel had given in and caught himself a water-type. Sapphire, he'd named her, for the pretty blue sheen to her body and the way she, despite being the shy type, seemed to have a particular sparkle in her eye. While he didn't think he was going to be out on the water all too often, he couldn't help but think it'd be useful for him to learn to ride with her; plus... he had to admit, he didn't spend much time in the water anymore, given his leg, and she just might give him the ability to enjoy himself a little.
So, he makes for the pool. It's a huge thing, really, that almost surprises him. But, then, a pool meant for training Pokemon had to be quite large, didn't it? Draping a tower over himself, the man closes the door to the men's changing room and steps out to see that he wasn't the only person here with training in mind, and that he wasn't the only one with a Lapras besides. The girl seemed awfully small, at least in comparison to him, and so, knowing he had a tendency to spook people, gives her a wide berth, but he does offer her a greeting. "Hey there, hope it's alright I'm here, too."
Moving around the pool, to an edge adjacent, but with plenty of space between the two of them, Lionel fishes Sapphire's Pokeball from his swim trunks (really, the fact that these things could have pockets was pretty great,) so he could release her into the water. The huge Lapras seems pleased to be out of her ball, stretching out that graceful neck and bringing it down to examine Lionel curiously - a gesture he responds with smoothing his palm against her neck. "Pretty girl. We're gonna test some stuff today, alright?"
After a moment, he slips into the water, thankfully not on the particularly deep side, so he stands up to his waist. Sapphire seems nervous, however, in the presence of the others, her head swinging around bashfully to hide behind Lionel's, as if he were an adequate shield from prying eyes.
Was she embarrassed? Lionel laughs a little and pats at one of her flippers, turning toward the girl and her far smaller Lapras (though closer to an average size than Sapphire - was that what it was?) "Would you mind if we introduced them? My girl here's a little shy, it seems."
At first, the slapping of bare feet on the floor went unnoticed until the man was much closer. Even then, it was Mizune who noticed the man, turning her head to look at him which caused Sonia to do the same. While company wasn't exactly expected, she also didn't mind it. Though there was a ball of anxiety churning her stomach at the thought of actually communicating with him. Baby blue eyes blinked at him before she was smiling and nodding her head, hoping that he could see it with the distance between them.
This was still a public place, and she wouldn't dare tell someone that she would rather them go. And though she was nervous, she was also happy someone else was here. It meant that as a trainer this was a normal thing to do. She smiled, devolving into laughter as Mizune let out an inquisitive whine bumped her nose into Sonia's chest. "I'll be fine Mizu." Sonia nuzzled her nose against the Lapras. At least until the other Pokemon was released and the duo couldn't help but stare. That was another Lapras, but they were so much bigger than Mizune! Sonia didn't even know such a large size difference was possible. Mizune was torn between displeasure and delight at seeing the other Lapras, her flippers waving in the water.
"It doesn't matter, you're still one of my partners." Sonia soothed, giggling as she reached behind her head and began the process of tying her long braids together into a more manageable length. The other pair was bonding, and Sonia didn't really want to interrupt, though Mizune was more shamelessly looking at them curiously.
And then there was the question, and her heart began to speed up. Right, proper conversation. And here she had two choices, start signing and hope he understood, or default to her telepathy and hope this man wasn't totally like her mother. She swallowed the lump in her throat, licking her lips before she took a step off of the figurative deep end.
"Sure, I don't mind." Sonia moved her lips as if she was actually speaking, though the words definitely couldn't be heard with one's ears, but with the other's mind instead. Thought the voice was still soft as Sonia didn't want to intrude too much into his mind. "I'm Sonia." Her hand lifted to her chest before smoothing over her Lapras's neck. "And this is Mizune. She's very nice, I promise." Sonia smiled, her hand leaving Mizune's neck as the Lapras swam forward, then leaned her neck forward to nudge her nose gently against Lionel's chest in greeting. Then pressed it to the other Lapras's neck as if saying 'See? I'm nice.'
((Bold and Italics indicates telepathic speech to everyone, just italics is thoughts or privately to another))
For the first few moments, Lionel doesn't recognize what, exactly, is happening. The young girl responds to him, as anyone would when asked a question, and he's half-way to replying when he seems to realize something was... off. The confusion and subsequent unsettled feeling shows on his face in the way he cants his head to the side, as if something were in his ears and he didn't know how to get it out, and it takes a few moments longer, of staring almost dumbly in her direction, for him to truly understand what it was that was before him. It wasn't anything he'd ever had much experience with, but he knew of psychics and while he'd never spoken directly to one... it wasn't a terribly foreign thing, in the grand scheme, right?
Calming his nerves, Lionel watches as the smaller Lapras - Mizune, he learns, from the voice that was at once in his head and night - crosses over to say hello. A faint huff of a laugh leaves him as it nudges its smooth snout against his chest, which turns into a simple smile as she attempts a hello to Sapphire; she's nervous still, but after a few moments, seeming to sense no ill will from anyone, the large girl slowly lifts her head up from behind her master to return the greeting - albeit far more shyly. Sapphire's nose bumps slightly against Mizune's, and she straightens out a few seconds later, bashfully looking away as her flippers flap in the water. She seemed pleased, despite her anxiousness.
"... You're one of those psychics, right?" Lionel questions then, as he quietly nudges toward Sapphire, smoothing his palm over her chest to lead her a little closer to him - before aiming to hoist his large frame up and onto her shell. If she were of smaller breed, he might be anxious to strain her, but luckily, she was actually massive and seems to barely register the man's weight as he hops onto her. "Good job, sweetheart." He coos, to which Sapphire seems to blush as much as a little creature could, dipping her head briefly into the water as if to 'cool off.' "Can you swim around a bit for me?"
Nodding to the request, the Pokemon starts to swim in small circles about the center of the pool, while Lionel turns his attention toward the girl once more. "I've never met a psychic before." Using a quick bout of thought, he hums and then asks, "You can't, uh, talk?"
And here the potential for everything to go wrong raised it's ugly head. Granted, she wasn't still in his head, no that was very rude. She never did like trying to look past that initial barrier, it was rude to pry into someone else's mind. But his confusion was clear on his face, along with something else. Disgust? Worry? Hard to say for certain other than Lionel definitely knew something wasn't quite right.
Was that what her father felt every time she had talked to him in the same fashion? Sonia kept her face turned, not trying to get a better look and hide slightly behind her own Lapras instead. Though her 'shield' didn't stay for long before she was saying hello. The smaller Lapras moving slowly and calmly, letting the larger and shyer one take the lead with the rest of their interaction. Mizune was definitely a big sister figure, towards other Pokemon as well apparently and that warmed Sonia's heart, the girl giggling and the sheer cuteness that was Sapphire.
And then ice water went through her veins, her body stiffening before she could say otherwise. Mizune was right back at her side, still watching curiously as the man climbed onto Sapphire's shell clad back, Mizune even tilting her head as the other Lapras was praised and dunking her head in the water. Such a shy Pokemon. Sonia was too panicked however, memories and thoughts racing through her head that anyone else would find absolutely dizzying. Not even she could keep it straight.
But a soft coo broke through all that, the warmth of Mizune's nose helping the young psychic ground herself and separate what was her mind and what was reality. It still took her a minute to actually register the words before she was gulping but reaching out to Lionel again, still being extremely cautious.
"I'm sorry, but no. I can't. I wish I could though." Even though the man was farther away than before, the 'voice' he heard was still clear if but a little softer. "I was born mute, any sound I try to make is very breathy. The best i can do is squeak, but even that hurts. I usually use sign language, or my dry erase board, but the board isn't exactly safe to use in a pool. And there is no guarantee about anyone knows sign language." Sonia blushed, still hiding against Mizune's neck.
"I try to use my powers as little as possible. My... mother wasn't really happy about them so I assume a lot of people will think the same." She admitted perhaps a little quicker than anticipated. And now her poor nerves were already beginning to fray and she still hadn't even gotten to what was supposed to be the hardest part of this task. Getting Mizune used to her weight. She was still on the shorter and slighter side, Mizune should theoretically still be able to carry her with relative ease?
Gulping she encouraged her Lapras to get closer to the edge, one foot lifting before touching down on the shell. Holding her breath, and fearing the worst she hopped her other foot over with her hands on Mizune's neck for support. Sonia had her eyes closed, somehow still expecting her slight weight to cause Mizune to sink. She was standing there like a fool with her eyes closed for a solid few minutes before blue eyes opened and took in just what she was doing.
Mizune was still patient, though gave a little broken huff that could have been a chuckle while Sonia shifted her weight to get a better footing, arms still held out for balance.
"Okay, let's try it." But even though Mizune didn't move overly quick, nor overly suddenly, once they were a few feet from the edge Sonia was falling off into the water. She only went deep enough to dunk her head, coming up quickly to splutter and shake her hair. She pouted childishly as she held onto the very edge of Mizune's shell.
Mizune craned her neck down to Sonia's waterbound level while the girl continued to tread water while clinging to her partner's shell. Blue eyes glanced up to brown, cheeks tinted pink with embarrassment. Still a very blue nose reached down and nudged against the blond encouragingly.
"I know, I know." Sonia still continued to pout, though another couple of nudges convinced her to try climbing back onto the shell. Though that was a process that was helped by Mizune supporting her until Sonia was actually standing again and this time actually holding onto one of the spikes coming from the shell as support.
"Okay, let's try again." Sonia nodded, holding on tighter now. But Mizune just continued to stare at her. Sonia frowned until Mizune looked down at her shell, then back to Sonia. Oh, maybe sitting would be the better option. So still holding the rounded spike Sonia sunk down, legs wrapping around the spike as she leaned back a bit. There, that was sort of comfy, and if she scooted backwards she could rest her back against another.
Mizune nodded once she saw that her trainer was now situated more to her liking, and now it was time to try swimming again. So she moved slowly away from Lionel and Sapphire to begin her own loop of the pool, keeping a nice steady pace while she got used to the weight (though it wasn't much) on her back. She waited until after a full loop before crying out in delight, splashing her flippers before she glanced back over to Sonia.
Now was as good of a time as any. Now that Sonia had also gotten a feel for how her partner moved, she knew more what to expect. And sitting between the two spikes gave her plenty of support as she slowly stood up. Then she was leaning forward and watching as the artificial waves broke around the Lapras. They weren't going too fast, but the breeze was still touseling her hair and caressing her face. Her lips broke out into a big grin as she kept her balance, weight shifting with the water type's.
"Faster!" Sonia giggled, grip tightening as Mizune did just that, neck leaning forward as she really put on some speed.
