When Mom Bell had unexpectedly come home recently, she’d bright a few gifts from her trip, and after learning what had actually happened to Elise, she’d very quickly turned “presents for the kids” into “presents for Elise”. This was how she ended up with a considerable amount of items that she kind of sort of didn’t want. She liked a few of the gems and the Old Amber, but she wasn’t a huge fan of the Dome Fossil or anything else. Still, she knew someone who would be interested in a Kabuto! And thus she set out texting Levy and setting a date and time to go out to Ivy Town for a “girl’s day out and a surprise!”
Now she was standing at one of the local docks petting Shelly, her large Gyarados, who would be the ferrymon for this trip. Despite being a fearsome creature, Shelly was actually rather relaxed on most days and very much enjoyed the petting from Elise. She could be a little hasty and did have a temper now and again, but well, they were working on that.
The weather was still cool but not so unbearably cold as before. Elise wore a pair of jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, and a light jacket. Across her shoulder was a waterproof bag that normally only saw action during the summer months. Now, though, it would keep everything squared away until she needed it.
A sound caught Elise’s ears, and as she turned and saw Levy there, Elise smiled and waved a hand. “Hey!”
It wasn't that odd for Levy to recieve a text from either of her best friends. It wasn't odd for any of them to arrange for a get together with one or more of them. So setting up a girls day out wasn't totally out of the question and wasn't totally unexpected. But Levy still had yet to figure out just what the surprise was, which was probably the point.
So the day came, and Levy was off to one of the many docks on Route 5. It wasn't too hard to find Elise as Levy had a general idea as to which dock she was at. Her cell was held tightly, thumb sliding across the screen as Levy double checked the directions she had gotten. It was the fourth small dock to the right of the largest one on this beach. Though it also helped that it was relatively empty for the moment and the only dock currently occupied was by a familiar looking Gyarados.
Fearing the worst, Levy had packed an extra set of clothes for the possibility of her getting wet. Otherwise she was hoping her white long sleeved turtleneck, and dark blue jeans would survive the ride. Her navy blue jacket getting tugged better onto her shoulders as she made sure her water proof bag was still secure.
Though maybe she should have worn better boots, self concious as they tapped harder against the wood than she expected. There was a slight wince, though she wasn't trying to sneak up on her friend. But she felt like she should have more grave than this.
"Hey Elise! Hello Shelly! Looking gorgeous as always." Levy complimented, waving a hand as she hurried forward. "How's it going? Everything still going okay?" Levy thought she'd check in, just in the off chance that that this get together was because her friend needed support more than company. Though she knew Elise was plenty strong enough, it never hurt to check in on the ones you cared about.
A bright smile flashed across Elise’s features as Levy spoke. “Thanks! I love that jacket on you!” she returned. The question that followed after had her faltering only briefly before reinstating, and she quickly gave a nod right after. “Yeah, doin’ ok!” About as good as she could be doing given everything. She was feeling ok that day, so that was something! Elise considered returning the question but then was too excited by a different prospect, so instead, she turned and started fishing around in her bag.
“I have a surprise for you, by the way!” Elise grinned just as she fished out the fossil in question. Holding it up over her head like an explanatory prize, she then held it forward to Levy and beamed yet again. “We’re gonna stop in at the revival lab while we’re in Ivy!” She held it forward, waiting for Levy to take and presumably inspect it. “I’ve got some Old Amber that I’m going to revive too!” she went on. “I think Stella”— her Skarmory— “Would like a flying buddy!” Hopefully.
Shelly leaned over slightly to get a better look at it. While she was aware of where they were going today, this was actually the first time hearing why.
At the compliment Levy smiled brightly, lifting her arms out before doing a quick little spin on her heel to make the jacket flare out. "Thank you! I love it too, mostly because it actually had decent sized pockets." Levy giggled, stuffing her hands in said pockets to show it off. Her hands, and even just past her wrists disappearing into the fabric void. "That's good. If you ever need to talk, or someone to help get your mind off of things I'm always here to lend my assistance you know?" Levy asked, though she was sure that Elise knew that any of the PNG girls would likely be happy to help in whatever way they could. Though it never hurt to remind someone you loved.
But then elise was saying something about the surprise. And how could Levy not be curious about that? Granted, she didn't expect any sort of gift from her friend.
Much less a fossil!
Blue eyes widened considerably as she took in the dramatic presentation that was offered to her. "Wow Elise! Thank you so much!" Levy spoke, staring at the fossil in awe as her hands ran over it gently. It was a dome fossil to, belonging to a Kabuto. She had to admit, when she had voiced her interest in water types, and how she thought Kabuto and Kabutops were intriguing, she hadn't really expected the information to stick. But here she was, getting gifted a fossil from one of her best friends.
"Elise, you have got to be one of the bestest friends on the planet! And I'm not just saying that because you are giving me something. I didn't think anyone would remember, much less actually act on it. I thought fossils were rare, how did you get one?" She asked, amazed and curious as she offered the other young woman a hug.
Levy’s reassurance was appreciated, and a warmer smile pulled on Elise’s features right after. “Thanks,” she spoke a bit softer then— if only for a moment. She had a present to show! And the response was perfect. Elise beamed as Levy brightened. Oh good oh good! The way her smile shined was perfect! A giggle sprung up from Elise! “I’m so glad you like it!!!” she squeak-squealed back hopping from the heels of her feet up onto the balls for a moment.
The follow up question, though, had her easing back down on her feet again. “It was actually something my mom brought back from abroad, along with some other stuff including the Old Amber,” she answered a bit quieter. It was common knowledge among the girls that Celeste Bell was a world renown pianist who traveled so much as to be absent during most of Elise’s life. Still, when she was home… she was home… right?
“It was…. weird..... seeing her again,” she admitted softly after the fact. “Like she showed up out of nowhere just …. Uh… well her plane or something got re-directed or something.” Elise shook her head and then waved the words out of the air. “Anyways! Let’s get going! Shelly!” On cue, the Gyarados eased a little back into the water and started to stretch out allowing people to climb on. Elise was first, walking towards the edge and using a small ladder strapped to the very end to give herself just a bit of way before she flung her leg over and sat down. Shelly shifted a little to give Levy a space to sit behind Elise.
Ribombee [Shimmer, lvl 35], Gyarados [Shelly, lvl29], Skarmory [Stella, 33], Alomomola [Finn, lvl 25 (EXP SHARE)], Frogadier [Searose, lvl 29], Morpeko [Sparkle, lvl 34] White Flute [1/5] - A permanent item that, when played, increases the odds of encountering a double battle for 5 encounters. Can be played once per thread.
Levy also gave a soft smile. "Any time bestie." Her tone also softer though she wasn't totally sure why. Maybe it was because neither wanted to be percieved as weak, that Elise needed the assistance. Sure, it might have been offered, but Levy didn't think the Elise needed it. It was just easier to handle things if you knew you had a friend to back you up if you wanted it.
That was something that had really been cemented to Levy since meeting Elliot.
"Love it! The Kabuto that comes from this will surely give me a valuable team member! Sure Kabuto and Kabutops aren't the cutest Pokemon, but they have a variety of moves they can learn." Levy couldn't help but ramble on a bit excitedly, especially as she thought about the possible interaction of moves. Rain Dance getting frozen into snow by an ice beam, or any water type moves getting frozen. The agile pokemon using a Stealth Rock as stepping stones. Kabutops could learn some interesting moves that was for sure!
Oh. But then the source of the gift became apparent and Levy actually winced. Now she definitely regretted bringing it up. Celeste Bell wasn't the most attentive mother, something that Levy felt a kinship with. Levy still felt horrible for asking, nodding in understanding to Elise's statement of it being weird to have her mother home. She kept her comment to herself, not wanting to distress Elise further.
"Yeah, let's go! We got quite a ways to go, thank you so much Shelly." Levy complimented the Gyarados, watching carefully as Elise used the docks ladder to properly mount the serpent. The girl needed to take a breather, distracting herself by making sure her bag was secure before she too was climbing down the ladder.
"Alright. Beauty, grace, don't fall on my face." She encouraged herself, swinging her leg over in a similar fashion that she had seen Elise do, making sure she didn't accidentally kick her friend instead. Then she settled behind her friend, one hand on her bag while the other rested on the blonde's shoulder. "Now let's make like aqua and jet!" Levy attempted something witty as she pointed forward.
Elise’s eyes shined as Levy spoke. “Yeah!” Kabutops were a little scary from what she’d seen of them, but as she’d come to learn with Stella, blades weren’t always scary by default. And Levy being excited was great, of course. After that, though, Elise was happy to get going. Resting too much on memories of her mother would only depress her. Better to stay positive in this positive time of positivity!
Shelly blushed as much as Gyarados could blush and gave a small nod to Levy back. She was happy to help where she could! (And people not immediately being afraid of her was always nice.) She shifted a little as Levy climbed on after Elise and waited. “Go for it, Shelly!” This, combined with Levy’s words, had the Gyarados sink down parallel with the surface of the water before breaking into a burst of speed through it. The rush of waves that passed by them splashed some icy water into the air, but luckily it was aimed behind them. “EHEHEHEHEHEH!!!!”
Soon they were out a little ways in the water, and Shelly slowed a bit. Elise felt her eyes start to slowly flicker around, taking in the sights. High above them, Wingull coasted on the air. Along around them was— “Look! A pair of fish!” Elise squeaked as she looked right and downwards to see a Finneon and Tynam— Oh. Oh gosh. Oh was that Tynamo chasing the Finneon? It was in that hot second that Elise remembered Tynamo was Electric type and hunted fish…. She hoped maybe they were just swimming together but…
“EEK!” Fishing out a Pokeball, she released an Alomomola into the water. “Finn! Keep the Finneon safe!” she squeaked looking over the side still. The Alomomola started to sink down into the water after the pair. “I hope it’s ok…” She looked back towards Levy and bit her lip pensively.
Elise was right, it was much better to not dwell on the negative and look towards the positive. And the positive was that they were together, and they wre so likely to have fun! It also helped that Shelly was adorable with how her blue cheeks turned a little purple. Then both girls were on, Levy a little less confident than Elise who had ridden the gyarados before, and the impressive length of the serpent was pushing them through the water.
Of course Levy gasped at first, a little surprised and she held onto her friend a little until the initial panic faded. The the bluenette was looking back, watching the tail end of the Gyarados as it propelled them forward. "Wow!" Levy spoke, the awe evident in her voice as she gathered the courage to look around them. Watching the water part around them was thrilling, and the sea breeze was invigorating! Levy took several deep inhales to savor the smell and taste. Shelly couldn't be expected to keep such a pace, so when she slowed Levy wasn't surprised and took in what all she could see and hear.
At the cry of fish, Levy jerked to look, curious as to what kinds they could see. It was a Finneon, and a Tynamo? "Oh no!" Levy almost squeaked as she leaned forward to try and get a better look at what they were doing. Finn was released, and Levy bit her lip as she knew any of her Pokemon were currently quite useless right now. Well, not useless, this was just a very unideal situation for any of them. Other than one, but he was most definitely useless right now.
"I don't think they Tynamo is playing." Levy frowned. "But a tynamo has a very predictable moveset until it evolves. Tackle, Thunder wave, Spark and Charge beam with it's only ability being levitate. I think I have an idea how to get it to leave the finneon alone. Just give it a 'better' target." Levy focused on reaching into her bag, pulling out one of her own pokeballs. She already felt so mean for this, but nothing was quite as irresistible as a weak, helpless Magikarp.
Which was now in the water and staring forward and bubbling as he swam about aimlessly. He hadn't been in salt water before!

Swimming down to the Finneon and Tynamo, Finn put himself between them. The Tynamo immediately stopped and squinted. A spark of a Charge Beam would be met by a wall of Protect, however. Finn knew better than to outright engage with the Tynamo. Not only was it stronger than him, it had a Type advantage afforded to it. Still, he could throw up a couple of Protects and hope none of them failed until the girls figured out what else to do. The Finneon, meanwhile, was thankful to be protected for now at least, and hid behind Finn all the more thereafter.
The Tynamo swam one way and then the next debating how to attack this giant pink shield. Before she could decide on what to do, however, a flash of light would catch her eye. Turning to see the Magikarp, she smiled a little. That looked just as tasty and perhaps a weaker opponent as well! Swimming off towards it, the Tynamo sparked again. Seeing the Tynamo change course, Elise’s eyes grew flashing from the Magikarp to it a couple of times. “Shelly use Ice Fang if you can reach it!” Elise called. The Gyarados ducked her head down into the water just as the Tynamo got close enough and managed to crunch down. Flinching, the Tynamo cried out! Not fair big fish! How dare!
Meanwhile, Elise was calling back towards Finn. “Come back up and use Double Slap!” The Alomomola heard her but wasn’t sure this was a good idea. Sighing, he swam upwards and managed to make contact with it crashing a fin up against it and causing it to fly right up out of the water. In a quick moment of thought, Elise grabbed a Great Ball from her pocket and tossed it right at the fish!
Attempting to catch Tynamo in a Great Ball. Ribombee [Shimmer, lvl 35], Gyarados [Shelly, lvl29-> 30], Skarmory [Stella, 33], Alomomola [Finn, lvl 25 (EXP SHARE) -> 27], Frogadier [Searose, lvl 29 (EXP Share2) -> 30], Morpeko [Sparkle, lvl 34]
Finn was holding up on his own, even with a type advantage! That was impressive! Though Levy was also very intrigued by that Tynamo. She couldn't help but be a little fascinated by its electric typing.
But the idea of a bait and switch worked well, the helpless Magikarp, unbeknownst to him, provided a good target which lured the Tynamo over, putting the ell within Shelly's attack range without jostling the girls too much. And poor Magikarp, seeing the eel coming towards him cowered under the water near the coils of the Gyarados. What was that all about?! He splashed about in displeasure.
"You did it Elise!" Levy cheered, patting her friend lightly on her shoulders before giving her a hug. What a strong looking catch too! Levy was almost a little jealous, but there was also the part of her that was still terrified. Pokemon could be so strong, and there was no way her team could handle that battle easily. Or at least Levy had little confidence that they could.
"Is everything alright over here?" A very low, and unexpected voice asked. Levy turned to the other side, watching a very tan man swimming over to them. What was that following him? A pile of sand? Just how was it floating?
"Yeah, we are fine. Right Eli? We were just enjoying the ride then spotted some fish Pokemon and decided to take a looksie. Thought one was in trouble so my friend helped it out!" Levy spoke proudly, chin tilted upwards a little bit.
"Well, two very helpful girls. Perhaps just what I needed, think I could ask for a hand?" He started, removing his goggles so that he could see a bit better. And now that sand pile had caught up and Levy knew it had to be a Pokemon. But it wasn't one she had seen before. "Me and Sandyghast here are trying to do some training, but I'm only good at two things. Swimming, and battling. And well, as I'm sure you can see, Sandy here isn't the best at swimming. So could we maybe ask for a quick battle?"
Levy giggled a little, turning to her friend. "What do you think? We still have plenty of time in the day right?" Levy asked, a little more confident now. Who would she pick though? Zei could swim alright, but this was still pretty deep water and he wouldn't be able to move well. That, and wet fox didn't smell the greatest.
Maybe Ophi? Her body shape was similar to the Gyarados they rode, and snakes could swim. Right?

Ding! The sound of the Pokeball’s call of capture had Elise straightening a bit. She did it! “Ohmygosh!” She did it! “Whoohooo!!!!” Throwing a fist up to the sky, Elise relaxed and giggled immediately after. Both Shelly and Finn were careful to make sure the Pokeball actually zipped away to its proper place in her PC before relaxing and crying out happily right after! Turning to Levy, Elise flug her arms around the other girl and hugged her tightly briefly!
Elise immediately jolted on a voice hitting her ears. “Huh???” She too turned to see the swimmer coming up to them. Shelly had noticed but had been just a little too distracted to do anything right then. “Oh! Yep we’re ok!” Elise reassured back sitting right again and patting Shelly. The Gyarados gave a low rumble back. Finn, meanwhile, swam up and around to the swimmer and eyed him carefully. What human was out in such cold waters right then anyways?
“A hand?” A battle. “Uh… well… I don’t want to wear Finn out too much,” she answered looking at the Alomomola. He actually could probably use a rest after such a fierce battle, and on deciding that, she returned him. Shelly was their ride and really didn’t need to battle too much least she exhaust herself. As Levy spoke up, though, Elise perked up some. “Go for it, Levy!” she encouraged quickly. She bet she’d do great!
Alright! She had Elise's blessing to battle, so might as well take it. Levy had already bonded a bit with Ophi, so hopefully this would go well!
"Alright Ophi, you're time to shine!" Levy called out, already attempting to encourage her Pokemon as she was released. The Seviper came forth, still draped over some of the Gyarados's length as she took in her surroundings with a flick of her tongue. The snake looked at ease, at least at first until she realized just where she was. She hissed softly, hunkering down closer to the water as she spied the Gyarados they were riding.
"It's alright Ophi, Shelly is a total sweetheart and won't hurt you." Levy reassure the startled snake. Whom perked up pretty quickly once that was said. "Can you swim? We're hoping to have a battle." Levy cheered, oh so carefully shifting so that she could sit sideways for a better view.
Ophi gave a little, nervous flick of her tongue before slowly easing herself into the water. Oh! That wasn't so bad! Her body began weaving from side to side to keep herself afloat. "That a girl! Now we ready?" The swimmer nodded. "Alright Ophi, let's start things off right. Bite!"
Though saying that out loud, as someone who had been on the receiving end of those fangs once before, had Levy giving a brief shudder. But it definitely seemed like something came over in Ophi in battle, eyes glimmering dangerously as she swam forward and lunged. The drag of the water still slowed her down, and the sandyghast as well, but the ghostly pile of sand was still able to move out of the way in time.
"Astonish!
"Let them get close, then Bite again!" Levy countered.
So that is what Ophi did, she let the pile of sand make it's not so spooky face at her before lunging. This time her fangs actually sunk into the sand. There was barely a wail from the ghost before it flattened, Ophi passing over it now. "Underwater, then give it a surprise!" Levy called again, the snake disappearing under the water temporarily.
"Brace yourself and harden!" Levy smirked, already knowing that this battle was her's. Ophi popped up out of the water, starting the balled up ghost with a lick before she was disappearing again. This time lunging from the water and biting again.
The ghost type went limp and was quickly recalled to the Swimmer's disappointment. But Levy cheered, taking the Seviper's head into her arms for some quick cuddles before the wet snake was returned.
"That was fun, but let's get going." Levy smiled brightly to her friend, shifting to sit properly again.

As the Seviper was released across her back, Shelly shifted in the water, adjusting to this new balancing act. Looking back over her shoulder, Shelly smiled (as much as a Gyarados could smile) at the Seviper. Elise’s eyes grew at seeing the giant snake, and a wild smile flashed across her features as she realized yes, snakes like her water serpent, could indeed swim. The battle that followed her shifting around to watch closely, and when the Sandygast finally went down, she couldn’t help but clap! “That was awesome!” she beamed at Levy warmly.
Thereafter, though, Shelly started moving again, and Elise had to shift to hang on. Swimming fluidly through the water again, Shelly was making good time. As they moved, however, a beautiful melody would begin to pour out into the air and reverberate over the water. Elise felt goose bumps run through her, and her eyes flashed around to search out the source. And then she saw it— “Slow down, Shelly!” Elise called. The Gyarados did just that and then too saw what Elise did. A beautiful pod of Lapras were floating on and singing to their ancient tune. Slowing to listen, Elise hummed along with them. “This is like… deep C…..” she registered softly. "It's so beautiful...." She looked from one to another and then to another.
Slowly, one of the braver (abet modest) ones came forward to assess this strange sight. Two humans on a Gyarados. How odd. Elise smiled on seeing her approach and hummed as best she could along with their primordial song. The Lapras brightened and gave a note or two back. Shelly squinted a bit and hesitated before adding her own tones to the music. Elise immediately squeaked. "That's so beautiful, Shelly!" The Gyarados wasn't really sure she would call it beautiful herself, but she did appreciate the compliment.
"Yeah, that wasn't actually so bad. I'm learning!" Levy couldn't help but cheer, pumping her fist. She had won a battle before, but that had been out necessity. This had been out of her own desire. And it felt great.
And now they were moving on, with the wind touseling her hair. And it was nice. And soon she'd get a whole day out and away with one of her best friends. And maybe, just maybe, if she had the money for it she could get this Kabuto fossil revived. And Elise would get a Aerodactyl. That would be pretty awesome. Not every group of best girl friends could say that they took a day trip like this.
And what was that sound? It was a song, a very beautiful song. "A pod of Lapras!" Levy whispered softly in awe of both the sight and sound. "So beautiful." She agreed, wheezing slightly as one of the pod broke off to come and see them. Levy was almost scared that she would scare the sweet thing off!
"You could actually sing with them? I bet they'd love it." Levy whispered, smiling as even Shelly tried to sing along. "You got the right idea Shelly. No harm in trying your best." Levy encouraged, patting some of the serpent that sat exposed between her and Elise. And that bending down brought something else to Levy's attention. They had company.
There was an incredibly small, ghostly white Corsola that had come to see what was going on. And a rocky fish that also came up to see. "Would you like to sing too?" Levy asked, only for the Corsola to give out a soft ghostly wail that increased in volume. And the fish just bubbled under the water. Well....
Shelly blushed a bit at Levy’s encouragement but was none the less pleased by it. She really didn’t think she was all that good at singing, but Elise and Levy’s encouragement was wonderful. And then the Lapras herself encouraged her as well, assuring her that her voice was beautiful! And well Shelly might have turned scarlet if possible. She tried to downplay her words, but the Lapras only encouraged her more.
Elise squeaked and clapped her hands together very happy to see this development in Shelly! “We should do an ocean concert sometime!” she suggested. That would definitely be a lot of fun! Her attention would be briefly pulled back towards Levy as she spoke and then into the water where two Pokemon were coming up. The Corsola was so cute! And even if it was quiet, the Relicanth was very pretty!
The Lapras had stopped singing for a moment, however, and drawn Elise’s attention back up again. The Lapras was being called by her pod but seemed to be pausing in hesitation for one reason or another. Elise saw an opportunity and rather quickly fished out a Net Ball. “Would you come with us, Larpas? I love you singing!” she encouraged.
The Lapras's pod was moving on, but this one didn't seem to want to go. Even Levy could tell that the logical answer was to try and capture. It obviously wanted to stay, and it never hurt to have another water type capable of carrying passengers. And it's singing was absolutely lovely, it was just meant to be with Elise. And Levy would have encouraged her friend to try and capture it if the idea hadn't already been on her mind.
Now, what about these two beside her? She had seen one of these Corsola before, but this one was so small and now that it wasn't just a figment of her imagination like she thought it had been, it didn't hurt to perhaps get more information on it. And the Relicanth, Levy squinted at it, tilting her head a little at it like she was looking for something. Oh! There it was! Both of them had such pleasing colors, soft and just barely there.
"What do you say? Friends?" Levy asked, offering each of them a pokeball.
