Aw, crap, he was doing it again. Elliot blushed a little as Lynn shouted across the battlefield. "Sorry about that!" he said. "When I get excited, I tend to pick stuff apart. Like, turn it over and figure out how it works, y'know? But I know I can get a little bit rambly sometimes. Sorry if it came off the wrong way!" Echo shook her head, giving him a gentle pat. They were a lot alike, in a way. it's just that instead of getting carried away physically, Elliot got carried away with his words. And boy, did he use them a lot when he felt like it!
That said, did the hesitant-seeming boy just admit to Lynn that she was getting him excited?
Curly wasn't very confused by Lynn's lack of aggression. But Elliot sure was. He knew Lord Beerus well enough to know that he only exerted himself when he needed to, but Lynn? She seemed way too impatient for that! From her quick reaction time to her patience, she was really surprising Elliot today. "Cover as much ground as you can, but don't get ahead of yourself, Curly," Elliot said. His brow lowered slightly, and any embarrassment from earlier gave way to Elliot getting in the zone. "Something smells fishy here."
And it wasn't Curly who smelled fishy. It was Lord Beerus! As if using his Quick Attack, Lord Beerus blurred forward in a flash. Curly was caught off guard, rearing back in shock and taking a burst of psychic energy right to the flank. He buckled inwards, but Elliot was on the ball with an equally quick reaction. "Take the full hit and hold your ground! Lunge in for a Bite!" Elliot called. Curly nodded, lashing his tail behind Lord Beerus to try and ensnare him closer. His teeth gleamed in the light as he flashed them towards Lynn, then dove for Lord Beerus for one heck of a bite.
If he made contact (and his tail, blocking Lord Beerus' escape routes, would see to that happening), the attack's dark nature would make some major impact. But Lord Beerus was the naturally stronger of the duo, and being in close quarters meant Curly couldn't dodge his attacks, either. Worse still, the sea serpent's head was still ringing. Another psychic-based attack right now could capitalize on that for some major damage.
Elliot may not have known the excitement of battle before. But boy was he starting to feel it!

Oh damn, were things getting savage here.
Curly and Beerus were high level combatants, and that meant they fought at a high level too. Beerus' Psychic dished itself out to Curly, no holds barred. And Curly? Curly was less reminiscent of the friendly eel that Lynn had seen fake-battle a kid earlier and more like a very angry shark.
There wasn't much that Beerus could do at such close range against the Huntail. Whenever his claws dug into Curly's scales they slipped right off them again. Finding purchase was impossible.
And while Beerus was flailing? Curly's teeth dug into him.
By Arceus, did it look painful. Lynnette gritted her own teeth at the sight of Beerus taking the super-effective hit. But now wasn't the time to scream like a little girl or feel sorry for the Pokemon that was counting on her strategy.
She had to press the attack.
"Use Psychic again!" While Curly had a mouth-full of fur, Beerus was free to attack again. A weaker Pokemon such as Lynn's own wouldn't have been able to pull it off, but that's why Elliot was letting her try her luck by using his own, wasn't it?

Lynn wasn't the only one cringing here. Elliot may've been the one leading the attack here, but it was also one of Elliot's Pokemon who was taking the blow! It didn't help that he wasn't much for battling in the first place. A move as brutal as a bite? That was just hard to watch. Perhaps Lynn would've noticed the way Elliot flinched away.
Perhaps she'd notice how it left Curly unprotected, too. The Psychic came at just the right time, and it was full of rage and indignation at how Curly had been taking the fight to him. First the Psychic began to pry Curly's jaws open, slowly yet surely easing the pressure from the bite. Curly flailed like a fish caught on the edge of a hook, but he couldn't disengage from the bite. Lord Beerus wasn't in his clutches anymore: he was in Lord Beerus'! The Espeon let out a small, cruel grin, then upped the power on the Psychic. With a flick of his tail upwards, he sent Curly flying straight into the air! The Huntail went up, then down, his tail coiling over him into a perfect, neat pile as he made impact.
The third powerful psychic type attack in a row had done the trick. Curly had fainted.
Elliot couldn't help but smile. "Look who just got the first KO! I'm proud of you, Lord Beerus," Elliot said. Normally, such affection would irritate the Espeon. However, he couldn't help but indulge in a small, proud smirk. He stuck it to his overly soft trainer, and demonstrated that as far as his teammate went he still ruled the roost. What was there not to be proud of?
Yet this wasn't a 1v1. Elliot's lunch hadn't been won yet! Elliot looked towards the Ralts on his shoulder, grinning eagerly at her. "Let's finish what Curly started, Echo! Catch him off guard, when he least expects it!" Echo nodded, the Ralts jumping off of his shoulder and falling towards the battlefield.
Or was she? Before she hit the ground, Echo had disappeared into a ripple of psychic energy! If Lynn tried to read Elliot's expression to see what was coming, all she'd find was that smile. That damn smile.
Though perhaps it increased a hair when a similar psychic distortion appeared behind Lord Beerus. Echo reappeared already in melee range, slamming both fists down on the area that Curly had crunched uo. Ralts weren't normally physical attackers, but when Curly had already weakened the area, there was no reason not to capitalize. It also helped that Echo wasn't just punching here; both hands set ablaze, turning what would seem like an almost comical hammering blow into a menacing Fire Punch! Look out, Lord Beerus!

Elliot might’ve been cringing at how brutal things were getting, but Lynnette couldn’t help but grit her teeth, clench her hands, lean forwards and silently cheer at how incredible Lord Beerus and Curly were for being able to push through the pain and still fight.
This is what she wanted for Wolfram, as strange as it would seem to most. All those years he’d spent as a faithful little Rookidee by her side, sitting on her bookshelf and accompanying her to school - when he could’ve been a powerful Corviknight, flying across all the skies of Galar and seeing so many people and places – and being strong enough to fight and intimidate anyone he wanted to.
Despite getting off to a bad start with Beerus, the Rookidee in question was just as enraptured in the fight as Lynn, watching with bated breath as Beerus steadily began to overpower Curly. Even Lynn, who’d ordered the attack, was impressed.
“By Arceus,” she mouthed as she watched the ramifications of her order unfurl before her.
What was the bite force of an angry fish? Two hundred Newtons? Three hundred Newtons? What was the psychic force of a pissed off cat?
Clearly, it was more than enough. Just as Elliot had suggested, Lord Beerus’ strength lied with sheer power and heavy hits. A Pokemon glass cannon.
“That was badass,” Lynn commented after Curly was sent shooting for the stars and left eating dirt. Although the Huntail had irritated her towards the start of the fight, the feeling was long forgotten by now, and instead she shot him a fleeting sorry look before turning back to Beerus.
“Wow, Beerus. You kick ass and take names, don’t you?”
As arrogant as the Espeon was, Lynn felt proud of herself for being able to bring out his best. What type of trainer would she have been if he’d have been better off fighting alone?
She watched as Elliot turned to bring out his OTP (One True Partner) and was immediately on guard. This was Elliot’s first Pokemon, and as far as Lynn knew, that pretty much always meant the equivalent of a Boss Fight. A trainer and their first Pokemon always had the strongest bond, knowing the ins and outs of each other better than any other Pokemon on the team.
And though Lynn never had much chance to battle psychic types, from what she’d seen of them, they could definitely be tricky.
“Let’s hold back for now, catch your breath, Beerus,” she suggested.
At this moment, she couldn’t help but glance towards Elliot only to see him Damn smiling as Echo vanished.
“Watch out Beerus, Echo’s teleporting!” Lynn warned. Beerus was instantly on guard, tail twitching, ears rotating, hoping to catch the psychic ripples that’d tell him where Echo would appear first. Was there a psychic distortion to his right? Hoping to outmanoeuvre the Ralts, he leapt to the right two paces just as the psychic energy realised.
And then Echo appeared behind him!
He leapt back in shock, his tail picking up the tidal wave of energy behind him, but it wasn’t enough. The Ralt’s fists were reaved in flame, and the flame struck downwards onto his already tender wound, practically cauterising it on the spot.
Lynn’s nose wrinkled at the smell of burnt fur and cooked Espeon. Espeons with their lithe and thin bodies weren’t known for their physical defences. That was probably it.
Beerus shook as he barely withstood the blow.
“If you can still stand, let’s give Echo a last parting gift. Copycat!”
Could he even hear what she was saying? Apparently so, as his paws flickered with fire and he lashed out towards the melee-pounding psychic type one last time. Then he gently collapsed to the floor, too exhausted to carry on fighting.
“Good job, Beerus,” Lynn said to him before taking the PokeBall that Elliot’d handed her and recalling him for a rest. Next up were The Dudes!
“One-to-one. How’re you feeling, Elliot?” Lynn asked him with a calm smile and sugary tone.

"He really is something, isn't he?" Elliot said, sighing nostalgically. Yet the nostalgia in his eyes gave way to a flicker of intensity afterwards, once Echo landed her fire punch. "But he's not the only superstar my team has!" He watched carefully, noticing the waver in Lord Beerus' stance. There was an effort behind each footfall that Lord Beerus almost never put in. He really didn't want the indignity of fainting in a single blow, did he? Slowly, painfully, he staggered forward. And then he lunged towards Echo with paws of flame.
The movement was predictable, but it was also not something Echo expected from Lord Beerus. She hopped back, trying to avoid the attack, but Lord Beerus clearly wanted it a little bit more. The blow was a direct hit, almost more of a flaming push than a flaming punch, and after it landed Lord Beerus gently slid into the dirt. Echo let out a squeak of surprise in turn, flames licking at her body, but for the time being she didn't look too hurt.
She toddled up to Lord Beerus, giving him some gentle pats on the head, then dragged him behind her to bring him towards Curly. The two exhausted Pokemon leaned ever-so-slightly into each other. They may've been out of fighting energy, but at least they could sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Curly snickered ever so slightly at Lord Beerus falling in battle, only for Lord Beerus to half-heartedly whip him with one of his tails. Even on the edge of consciousness, these two couldn't stomp competing, could they? He promptly snickered again as Lord Beerus was recalled, stretching out and making a show of all the free space he had to himself.
He then seethed, coiling back up. Ow, ow, okay. Stretching hurt.
In a split second, two of Elliot's Pokemon had fainted. And by the time this battle was over, he'd only have one left. This was the most banged-up his team had been on a route, and most of it was his own fault! "I don't think I've seen any of them battle this much before," Elliot admitted. "I'm still not sure battling's super my thing. But it's great seeing everyone get a chance to stretch their legs and show off their stuff. And it gives me so many ideas as to what these guys are capable of. I'll have to keep today in mind during future training sessions, for sure!"
But how did Echo feel? Well, she was so happy that she was doing a little dance! Or, at least, it seemed like a little dance. With each swish of her dress, more leaves started swirling around her, psychic energy pulsing around each. With one last motion she thrust both of her hands out, sending her Magical Leaf spiraling in an unpredictable whirl. Outside of a trick like Curly's Dive, dodging the psychically-guided leaves was surely off the table. What could The Dudes do in lieu of this?
"He is," she replied softly as Beerus was dragged off to rest besides Curly. "He must've been one hell of a catch to make, if you didn't raise him." She supposed that Beerus could've also been traded, but Elliot seemed less like the trading type and more like the type that'd take what he was given and raise them up from nothing.
Once Echo was done dragging Beerus off the makeshift battle pitch, Lynnette grinned. Now it was really time for the figurative boss fight. Elliot had Echo: the young Ralts who had a tendency to look achingly sweet and innocent and then wipe the floor with her opponents.
And Lynn had an Alolan Dugtrio.
She gritted her teeth and clenched her hands, then motioned The Dudes forwards onto the battle field. "Alright guys, let's do this," she said with a confident nod towards her temporary partner(s)?. Okay, she was at a disadvantage. Elliot knew Echo and how to fight with her since she was born, while Lynn knew The Dudes for a total of five minutes.
It didn't mean there wasn't a chance she could win.
The Dudes surged forwards, turning up the ground around them as they did.
"I don't think I've gotten to battle with Pokemon for this long since I left Galar," Lynn admitted to Elliot. "Since then it's just been me and Wolfie on our own." She breathed a nostalgic sigh, then looked up and narrowed her eyes.
It was time to focus.
Elliot's lunch was at stake.
And Echo was attacking! "Magical leaf?" Lynn whispered, remembering the attack from earlier. Echo used it to take advantage of a type disadvantage before. It was only too bad that The Dudes didn't have Disable too.
There was one thing they did have, though. Echo wasn't the only one to have a type advantage, in a way.
"Dudes, hold! Don't dodge! Face Echo!" Lynn took a breath, letting Echo hurl her leaves forward for a direct attack. "Now use Tri-Attack with all your power! Push through the attack!"
As expected, a threefold beam formed before The Dudes, all elements present. Fire, Ice, Electricity. The trinity of elements itself were now coursing directly towards Echo's magical leaves!
"Leaves," Lynn said with a shrug. Now it was her turn to talk during the battle. "They can hurt, but they can be weak, too. They burn, shrivel and freeze. And Echo isn't a grass type, is she?" She said, pointing out the psychic-type's lack of STAB.
The Dudes are sending a Tri Attack to counter Echo's Magical Leaves! If you want, you can have it hit Echo too or she can dodge/overwhelm it. Whatever you think is most IC/exciting!

"Raise? Oh, definitely not," Elliot said. "But he was maybe the third Pokemon I ever caught. He actually wiped out pretty much my entire team in battle, and if it wasn't for just throwing a panic Ultra Ball, I would've probably been next in line for a butt-kicking!" Echo was pretty much on the brink of fainting when Elliot went for the catch. With Murex's inability to actually fight, and Elliot unable to bear with the idea of Echo actually fainting, what else could he've done but go for the catch?
Desperate times called for desperate measures. And maybe that's what lead to Lynn bringing out her bold Tri Attack strategy. First came the bitter cold of ice, withering and wilting the leaves from their healthy purple glow to a pale brown color. Then came the searing heat of the fire, setting the browned, freeze-dried leaves ablaze and reducing them to ash. Finally, with nothing in its way, the lightning crashed through the ashes, striking Echo directly and sending her flinching away. She may've been Elliot's starter, and one of his strongest Pokemon, but she was also already worn out from previous encounters along the route. Every hit count; even one third of a Tri attack left her panting from exhaustion.
Despite that, Elliot was all smiles. "You're right about pretty much all of that," Elliot said. "In fact, you've given me a few ideas . . . Echo, another Magical Leaf, but don't fire it off!" Echo swished her dress around, swirling leaves around her, but they remained orbiting her rather than actually launching forward. Was Echo trying to set up a shield? From all the way over here, what use would that be? Especially when Lynn had established she could shoot his leaves down with little problem?
"Now, Fire Punch!" Echo's hand lit in flames, and the ring of leaves caught ablaze as she extended her hand out. It took a few passes, with how healthy and green the leaves were, but sure enough they were actually carrying the fire before long. "Whoa, it worked! Now hurry, hurry, launch 'em before they burn up!" Unlike the usual Magical Leaf, it wouldn't be around for long, so Echo opted to launch the flaming leaves in a direct stream towards The Dudes. It was certainly an unorthodox technique, but Lynn was a canny one. Every second Elliot spent setting this plan up was a second Lynn could spend picking at the seams of the plan. Would she be able to sneak out a counter, or would she be too caught off guard by Elliot's scheme?
