There was nothing that could stop Simon right now. Or at least, nothing that would slow him down from running, bag and skateboard slapping against his back. But Simon didn't care, though he still took care of the Electrike egg in his arms. He was really hoping it would be hatching soon, he'd had it awhile now.
But the young man was in a hurry, he had somewhere to be damnit! There was reports of Torchic, Combusken and Blazekins at Grumble Volcano. Meaning there was a Swarm in the area and he just had to be there. He needed to be there like yesterday! There was no way he was going to miss it!
"Come on Sai! Faster! Faster! Faster!" He encouraged himself, grip tightening slightly on the egg as he barreled forward down the worn path. He only had the egg out, none of his usual partners were with him today. He had his less used Pokemon, wanting to make sire they got attention too. Though he sort of missed Kushina.

The edges of his skateboard were starting to dig almost painfully into his back, but Simon was in this for the long haul. He knew he had a lot of distance to cover, and he didn't know just how much time he had to do it. Likely a few days, maybe a week at most, but there was no way he was missing this swarm. Though, he could probably see if Juni would hold onto an egg for him if Pyre found a partner. Or he could maybe actively look for a partner for the small Blazekin, but where was the fun in that?
He was a Ranger, and he was here to explore the area! Granted, this was less exploring and running through it. No big deal. Ok, now that was a problem! A man rounded the corner, his body right in the middle of the path, so Simon had a choice to make, dodge or barrel into the guy.
Which he would rather not do with an egg! So the only real option was left or right.
His body tensed, getting some extra time to prepare for the maneuver as the older man saw him and jerked to a stop. Perfect. While trying to keep his speed he side stepped, only there was a slight unevenness to the ground and his ankle rolled. Wincing in pain, the limb giving out from under him the young man leaned into his shoulder. Rolling onto his back, and by extension his bag and skateboard though there wasn't much that could be damaged. He rolled into a sitting position, sighing softly before checking his egg. It was alright! Thank goodness.
"What was that all about?" The man asked, eyebrow raised, arms folded over his chest as he eyed the younger and smaller male.
"Oh, uh, sorry? I'm in a real big hurry, there is a Swarm of Pokemon at Grumble Volcano and I need to get there before they move one." Simon explained, standing and dusting himself off before testing his ankle. Okay, he couldn't run for a bit, but he could walk it off. He waved at the guy. "Sorry, but I'll be on my way!" And then simon was walking off as quickly as his ankle would allow.
The man watched him for a few moments before shaking his head and chuckling. "Kids these days."

The egg in his arms was now becoming more and more active, Simon could actually feel it twitch every so often. It definitely was about time, Simon was nearing the point he wanted to stop carrying the thing. He was eager for it to hatch and meet the Pokemon it would become, but it was also starting to get quite hot out. The sun was beating down on him, and even with his hat firmly in place he was still squinting at how bright everything seemed to be.
Though, it also didn't help that he was feeling quite thirsty. With the increase of heat, dehydration was something he would have to worry about. So he followed the path until he reached something a bit more shaded before he was sitting down with his egg and his bag. That helped, now he just needed some water. Thankfully he had the foresight to bring plenty as he needed to get through Route 7 and then the Weeping forest before he got to Ash City where he could stock up again. He also had some food, but he was more worried about water.
Though that didn't stop him from guzzling a bunch down, some dripping down the corners of his mouth. And then half the bottle was gone and Sai was licking his lips with the relief the water gave him.
Then there was a soft little "Mil?" from nearby. Knowing better than to freak out, Simon looked about for what had made the noise. It wasn't a Pokemon he knew, that was for sure. So he was a little surprised when he spotted the Milcery. The poor little thing was frowning, eyes a little droopy as it looked to him. It seemed so lethargic, maybe it too was thirsty? It was quite hot out after all. Simon frowned a little as he tried to think of the best course of action. Obviously the little, squishy thing needed some help, and as a Ranger it was his duty to do just that. He didn't have a smaller cup though. He'd just have to try the bottle and hope it worked.
"Hey there little fellow. Do you need a drink?" Simon asked, inching himself closer to the smaller Pokemon. It seemed to bob a little, definitely looking like it needed help. So Simon offered the open bottle, pressing it to the small mouth that opened. Then the bottle was tilted slowly, dribbling the water so that the Milcery could swallow it easier.
Once it pulled away Simon capped the bottle with a soft smile. "Sorry, there isn't much more that I can do without catching you. That's the only way I can think of to save you from this heat." The young man began to frowned. Granted, capturing wasn't a permanent process, he could still release the little, squishy whatever it was after it had cooled down. So Simon rummaged around in his pocket for a ball. "Here, you can cool down in here for a bit. I promise it won't hurt." Simon soothed as he held out the ball.

The ball gave a few weak wobbles before it clicked shut, Sai frowning at it all the while. "Sorry little guy, but you'll be a lot cooler in there." He reassured, the words meant for himself as much as the Milcery. Maybe he would release it later, or just keep the little thing. It seemed like an interesting Pokemon at least as he pulled his phone out to look it up. The egg was shaking more vigorously now, so it was probably best if it hatched in the bit of shade he had found.
Plus it didn't hurt to give it some time so he could look up this new Pokemon. A Milcery, a fairy type of all things that would evolve into an Alcremie that looked more like food than a Pokemon? Sai frowned, tilting his head at the information. It evolved oddly too. The young man put his phone away as the egg actually began to glow and morph until there was a good sized Electrike sitting in front of him. A quick pokedex app scan telling him it was a male. "Hey there bud. Good to meet you." Simon smiled, grabbing one of his pokeballs. Canines could like each other right?
Wrong.
As soon as Mikoto was released, and the two canines sniffed each other they started growling.
"Hey hey! Take it easy." He needed something to try and calm them down. So now Sai was searching for a food item. And the first thing he grabbed was some candies. But as he was in a hurry before they started tearing into each other. He had four, so each one got two. The growling stopped, and the two seemed to understand that they could be friends once they were done with their snacks. Now it was safe to move on.

Alright, so the progress was a little slower than Simon would have liked. But progress was progress, and he still had to take it slower because of his throbbing ankle. But if you thought he wouldn't start running again as soon as it felt better, you were mistaken! He totally would, and would probably roll his ankle again while doing it too.
Still wouldn't stop him, not with a rare fire type Pokemon on the line!
Both canines stayed by his side, one on each side, both panting slightly as the heat beat down on them. Though they both seemed to be handling it well. Mikoto because he was a fire type, and if Sai remembered right the Electrike parents were an Electrike and a Growlithe. Could that dual heritage explain the behavior? Maybe, but this wasn't something he was going to think too much about. Especially not with another Pokemon crossing his path and somewhat blocking his way.
Simon looked down at the little, frankly adorable bear. It was just standing there, looking up at him cutely. Maybe it was begging for food? "Sorry little guy, I don't have anything I can really share other than this." Simon knelt down, offering the Pokemon an energy bar. It frowned, clearly unhappy about something though Simon could not tell what.
The the bear smacked the bar away, folding it's arms over it's chest.
Now Simon was frowning, and the bear was glaring, and now Bando was growling again, so now the Teddiursa was growling too. And rather than get in the middle of that, and not wanting to risk getting zapped, Simon backed away with Mikoto.
The Teddiursa was the first to stop though, darted forward, and of all things licked the electric canine. There was a jolt right away, and the bear whined, wiping at it's tongue while Bando lunged forward, mouth sparking with electricity and bit down on the bear's shoulder. There was a quick retaliation of scratches, the Electrike wincing but biting down harder. Sparks now spread over the bear, and when it tried to swipe at the canine ot was stopped by the paralysis. This gave Bando the time needed to let go, back up, then run forward to tackle the bear into submission.
Simon frowned as the bear went limp, but at least Bando calmed down. So the young man picked up the bear, tucking it off to the side of the path, and even tucked the energy bar into it's grip before they were walking off.

This day was just full of excitement now wasn't it? Simon was just coming across plenty if things, and he was a little too distracted to actually enjoy much of it. He had a goal, and don't you think he wasn't going to do it! Because he would keep on trucking forward if it meant he could catch his very own Torchic! He was too prideful to want to resort to asking Juni to breed Pyre for him. He was here, and would do this on his own like he intended.
Though, now what was going on? A large, red Pokemon was pushed backwards onto the path. A Throh! He knew many fighting types, and that was one of them! Sai's eyes lit up like he had just seen the greatest thing ever and hurried over. Only to find what had pushed it backwards. That was a Honedge right?
"Hey! That's not a very fair fight! Pick on someone who you don't have a type immunity against!" Simon growled, running forward. "Let's see how you like an unfair fight! Mikoto, hypnosis!"
The waves of sleepy energy pulsed forwards as the ghost type looked towards the boy yelling at it. They hit right in it's face, did it have a face? It hit it's eye at least which closed with sleep. Good enough! "Now ember until you can't Ember no more!" One pulse of fire, two pulses. The eye opened again just in time to see the last hit come in and now the Sword wasn't floating no more. Simon snorted, tilting his head up as he walked to the Throh.
"Hey friend, you doing okay?" Simon asked, looking down on the Pokemon that was only a little shorter than him. It offered out a hand, which Simon took, and when the Pokemon squeezed a little too hard, it's eyes narrowing slightly, Simon got the hint and grinned. "Wanna arm wrestle? I win, you come with me. You win, you do whatever you want. Deal?" They both nodded then searched for a good surface to do this properly on.
Once they did, Simon sat on his bag, elbow already on the makeshift table made of rock while the Throh stood in front of him. They clasped hands, and looked to Bando who was sitting on one side. He barked three times, then the match was on! Arm muscles straining, nostrils flaring as Sai breathed through his nose. It took awhile, neither of them budging too much, at least not until the Throh shifted to try and get a better grip only for its hand to get slammed down instead. Simon grinned as he pulled out a plain Pokeball and tapped it to the Throh's hand.

"Well, that was a lot of fun." Simon grinned from ear to ear. That was an interesting experience, and a lot more fun than when he wrestled with Himi. And it left him less sore too, though he was still stretching anyway. Never hurt to stay limber. "Alright you two. Let's get going again." Simon smirked to his canine companions.
Though first he took off his jacket, stuffing it into his bag. Now he was just in a black tank top and beige cargo shorts. But Sai felt a lot cooler now, especially as a cooler wind started to blow through which helped ease them through the heat. Green and orange fur was tousled by the wind.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get a move on boys!" Simon cheered eagerly, already starting to job forward with his canines quick to follow as they barked at him.

As Liam continued along his merry way and the day grew longer, the sun started beating down a little harder. There was a nice breeze, but it was hard to feel through his uniform jacket, so eventually he stopped, looked around, and upon seeing no one decided to take his jacket off and stuff it in his bag. Sure, he'd look less official if someone did see him now, in a black t-shirt and slacks, but it was much cooler, and he was out in the middle of nowhere.
As luck would have it, though, some ten minutes later, a voice rang out from nearby. "Hey you! Man-bun!" a woman called. "You just gonna waltz on by? I don't think so. You gotta pay the toll." Liam looked up. High rocky walls rose on either side of him through a bit of a pass as he started getting into the foothills of the mountains. Atop a large boulder on one side of the pass entrance sat a rather punk looking woman and her Weavile. Ah, so it was that kind of 'toll'.
"Excuse me?" he asked. "Do you have a permit to set up shop here?" It was lightly snarky, as he could guess the answer.
The woman sneered. "You wanna go, Man-bun?" Her Weavile jumped forward and held claws up to Liam threateningly. Oh dear... His Kadabra straightened up, but was uncertain about trying to fight a Dark-type, though she would try if it hurt Liam. Still, this didn't look very pretty.

Now Simon was making progress, jogging forward at a steady pace now that his ankle felt alright. His two canines beside him, still panting though the breeze was startinh cooling them off a bit. It was nice that he didn't have to pause for anything. And of course that changed quick. What was that girl doing? And why was there a Weavile threatening someone.
"Hey! There's better ways to ask for a battle! Ways that don't include threatening someone with a Pokemon." Simon spoke up, voice becoming louder and carrying further without actually yelling as he came to the scene, eyes narrowed as he looked up at the chick.
He knew the type of course, he'd been the same kind of person for awhile. Someone who got off on battling slinging insults like they were better. But you know what, Simon had grown out of it, mostly. This kid? Obviously not.
"Whatcha going to do about it Shorty?" The Deliquent sneered at him.
Amber eyes slowly blink, Sai having to take a deep breath through his nose. He was a grown man, he didn't need to stop to her level. "Last chance to back off and take this elsewhere." Simon warned, not quite keeping the annoyed growl out of his voice.
"Yeah, I don't need to listen to you Short Stuff."
And that, that did it. That broke the thin thread that was Sai's patience. He exhaled heavily through his nose and glared at the girl. She had no idea of the can of worms she had just opened up by pissing him off like this. "Fine, you asked for it!" Simon sneered right, flicking a ball off of his belt and tossing it forward. The Heracross that came out stood up straight, eyes narrowing at the Pokemon before her.
"Have fun Hime, just don't get too rough." Simon teased the bug who chattered at him. Said bug lowered her head and charged. Before she could make contact though, a brown Pokemon was leaping out from behind the girl, ramming into Himi. Of course Himi didn't like this, flinging the Yungoos around with her horn before slamming it into the ground. And then when the Weavile tried to attack her, speeding forward and slamming into her. It wasn't a very solid hit and if a bug could grin, she was. Her fists began to glow red before she was rapidly striking the dual ice and dark type with her Arm Thrust. Down the Weavile went. And Himi cried out victoriously while Simon grinned something ominous. Not his fault he was presented with a quad weakness he could take advantage of.
And now she was pissed that she was losing, so she sent out her last mon, the ace up her proverbial sleeves. And not something Simon wanted Himi to mess with. He had a much better idea. So the Heracross was recalled. Instead, he nodded for the canines to step forward. The Growlithe and Electrike looked at each other, snorted in understanding and stepped forward. Two canines versus a scorpion, this would be fun.
"Keep your distance! Thunder Wave and Ember!" Simon called out. Both dogs barked before they were running towards the bug time and launching their respective attacks. The initial Ember was dodged, but sent the bug right into the thunder wave and making it freeze up. "Hit it with all you got while you can!" Bando's jaws sparked to live before he was biting it, jerking the tail around before letting go and bouncing away. Mikoto took a more reckless approach, lowering himself to the ground before dashing himself forward with everything he had. The recoil from the Double Edge took a fair bit out of him, the fell stinger just grazing his side and making him yelp and making sure he backed off. Thankfully Bando was still there and tackled the Skorupi, pushing it right into an ember that had it fainting.
Simon grinned as the Pokemon was recalled and the sulking teen walked off. Then Simon turned to the guy who had been nearly assaulted. "You all good? That looked close." Simon looked them over, making sure they hadn't actually been attacked.

Liam was pretty sure he could take this kid in a battle, but that relied on Cosette acting quickly enough or him being able to get another Pokemon out without being cut up by those claws. That part he was less confident about, so when someone else came along and distracted the delinquent, Liam breathed out a sigh of relief and took the opportunity to back up along with Cosette.
He held his tongue as the two... conversed? If it could be called that. It seemed she managed to hit a nerve, and the guy went a little nuts beating her Pokemon up. Judging by the moves being used, actually, this battle looked a little on the lower level side? His Pokemon probably could have handled it just as well if not a little better. But he was hardly complaining.
When the girl went heading off with her tail between her legs and the redhead turned to Liam, he gave him a warm smile. "I'm fine. I think I could have handled it, but I thank you for looking out for us!" He extended a hand. "My name's Liam. Liam Odhran. And you?"

Simon looked over the other guy to make sure that he was indeed alright. Those claws had been awfully close to his neck. The redhead's chin jerked downwards in a nod when he was certain that the (percieved) civilian was indeed alright and didn't need any medical attention. Simon knew some basics, but he wasn't always the most gentle or careful when he was worried.
"Yeah, you probably could have. I was just worried that her Pokemon actually threatened to hurt you. Punk's and their manners I tell ya." Sai snorted, glaring towards where the girl to make sure she had indeed gone. It certainly looked like it, but why was Mikoto sniffing at where she was? Simon raised an eyebrow at the young canine but was drawn back to the guy. Liam huh?
"Nice to meet ya." Simon grinned. "Simon Savage, though I prefer to be called Sai if you don't mind." He took the hand and gave it a firm shake.
"So what are you up to out here? Doing some training? Your Kadabra looks quite capable already." He asked and complimented before he was spying the large Growlithe padding over to him with something in his mouth? There was a muffled bark before the canine started to glow, leaving Sai speechless and wondering just how he had found a fire stone?!
