As Agate took another phone call, Sid looked down at their own phone checking the time as well as their emails. I should probably head out… Lord made route travel quick, but Route 8 was still long. That or check in I guess… they realized as they looked at the time.
Their attention was pulled back to Agate, however, as he spoke into the phone. As rude as it was to listen in, Sid couldn’t help but do so. Huh, a mysterious package with a mysteriously absent return address with mysterious eggs… What a strange fate… It sounded like the beginning of one of their games, actually. Their eyes flickered forward as a different package arrived this time. How odd…. Had they stumbled into a game with an unknown destiny before them? No, perhaps Agate was the protagonist here, and they were relegated to an NPC with a special task of some sort. Hmmm, yes that sounded right.
Oh shoot. Agate locked eyes with them, and Sid found a soft blush touching their features as he basically called them out for listening in. “Ah….” Uhm. Well, at least he didn’t seem too upset about it. Any interesting things going on? Ah… I am the NPC. Too bad they had no idea of what type of tasks to assign in this case.
Lucky for them, Josh piped up describing an area Sid themself was only vaguely aware of. Oh awkward… Sid shifted a little in stance and reached to scratch scratch through their hair. “That would probably be worth taking a look into…” they echoed in encouragement. Josh was a party member then, clearly. Perhaps the lancer architype to keep the party moving forward or Agate was. Hm.
Their attention fell to the strange red gem? (was that a gem? Eh, close enough) that Josh produced. “Looks like a D20…” they muttered softly to themselves. But whoever played D&D with it had to have been ginormous. Oh. Ancient currency also made sense, probably. “There might actually be someone in Ash who knows too…” they considered. “Though I guess the city seems to be more of a technical marvel than a historic one…” Surely there was still some museum or something around, though, right?
As Agate piped up again, Sid glanced sideways at him. “Ah, there should be some in the mart,” they answered making a small gesture off towards the connected but clearly adjacent building. “Though admittedly they are rather expensive…” They remembered Agate’s concern over money just a bit ago (even though he seemed to have quite a strange patron willing to partition funds for eggs… hm) "Normally eggs will hatch on their own just fine so long as you keep them warm, though."
Josh’s words earned a small frown, and Sid found themselves looking back towards the nurse at the front desk again. She gave a small sigh and a nod back, and Sid looked forward again. Poor Bladestorm either way. They could kind of understand the frustration if a Pokemon didn’t listen, however. “Are you both planning to stay the night then?” they asked hoping to ease the conversation back to a middle ground again.
Rather than upset, it's more like Agate imagined that people would like to know what's the mystery behind these two eggs. so he purposely does not speak with his "private voice"... But either way, the question he asked are instead answered by Josh. The fourteen years old pouted. "I know what you said. I just want to know if there are different sort of information, you know?" he countered. "Just seeing things from one side isn't adventurous at all! That's just following the flow! Being adventuring is about finding a lot side of a story, then find your own answer to it!" Agate finished his delivery with a fist pump. "A wise man said 'Chase your ideal, and find out your truth!'... it was maybe an Unovan saying? Heh heh."
D20? "Sid-sensei, are you a gamer perhaps?" he asked, pretty excited. "a... Dungeon and Dialga player or something it's called? My sis apparently plays with local teens... she said she's trying to make plot notes when it's her turn to be the DM! But well, sitting for too long is not my style. I'd love to play this thing, though... what was it called? Live action roleplaying or something?"
Hmm, so the Pokemart is it? "...I'll probably check it. Well, how to say, I'm fine with hatching the egg and just waiting but sometimes I'm a bit... in a hurry, you see. To explore different routes that is! So I want to get as many catch as possible, and then get as many Pokemon as possible to help me in my exploration job! ...Well that's the plan at least. But yeah, I think I'll check in! Excuse me!" he goes to the receptionist. "One room please, and uh... cafeteria ticket or something like that?"
"Yeah, I know--" Josh interrupted before hearing Agate out the rest of the way. "...True; I just wanted to give Sid my side of the story, because they asked. Didn't mean to offend you like that." There he went, jumping to conclusions again. That's a good way to alienate people and sever friendships. He couldn't help but smile at Agate's enthusiasm, though. Ah, the vigor of youth.
...A d20? Like roleplaying dice? It was completely the wrong shape for that. The gem-like object had seven pairs of identical faces - six pairs trapezoidal, the largest pair hexagonal. It was a crystal of some kind, but clearly not made of gemstone. "Well, I'll have time to look into it, Sid. They have Bladestorm's surgery scheduled overnight tonight. She'll need some time to recover, too. I might need to stay in town for a couple days. I really hope this teaches her that she can't just pick a fight with everything she sees...but I think in her case, the only teacher of that lesson will be time."
Agate seemed to perk up at the term "d20". "I used to play that, too!" Josh added. "Between racing and the League challenge, though, I just haven't been able to carve out the time for a weekly meet anymore." Josh stood up, unplugged his phone from the wall socket, and headed for the main exit. "I'm gonna find myself some--never mind," he turned around as he overheard Agate checking in. Come to think of it, this was awfully big to be just a Pokémon Center - apparently there was lodging for humans as well as Pokémon here, too. "Guess I don't need to look after all," Josh mumbled, following the boy to the counter and standing in line behind him. "Didn't realize this place had lodging," Josh said to Agate, raising his voice again. "Care if we split a room? It would make it a lot cheaper. If I need to stay behind to care for Bladestorm, I'll just book another room."

Oh no, that adorable pouty face. A rare male tsundere… adorable… Sid could only imagine him making that pout at Gaki and receiving one in kind. Sid chuckled quietly to themlf. Even Josh butting in was kind of cute in that way. “Unfortunately I am rather new here as well, so I don’t have much to go on,” they answered softly. “If we were in Kanto, I would be able to suggest a few things, though.”
Their features fell a little as they listened to Josh’s explanation of the state of the bird. “Have you considered an obedience training class?” they asked. They weren’t exactly sure how well that would go over, but if a Pokemon was a danger to itself, well… that wasn’t good.
Agate’s question earned a small smile. “I play a lot of games…” And then— “LARPing…. I do that too…” they laughed a little warmly at that. Hearing Josh’s explanaton, they couldn’t help but feel a kindred spirited group. “My cousin as well, actually. If you’re ever in Fuji, you should come by our ranch.” It would be great to introduce either of them (or both?) to Gaki and maybe work out a schedule with more people and… a group LARP would be nice.
Ah but Agate was a busy person, apparently, even so much as to wanting to rush eggs a bit it seemed. “Ah, you should probably remember to be careful then…” Sid warned. “Being the wrong level out in the real world can be treacherous.” With that, though, it seemed the boys were inclined to stay. Sid considered again but looked down at their phone. Nah, it probably was best to get home. “I think I’m headed out, actually, but if you want to swap numbers or Pokecord’s, we could chat a bit.” They smiled, held up their phone, and shrugged all in tandem.
"Weekly meet does sounds too much for me," Agate agreed. "Between trying to find new places to train, things to explore, weekly meetings sounded like it's not for me... but hey, maybe if I have flying Pokemon I could just like that return home on weekends? But that sounded a bit... lame? Oh well!" Agate shrugged and smiled.
"Oooh, your ranch in Fuji, Sid-sensei? Where in? If you give me the address, I'll visit you sometimes, well, assuming that I'm around that is. I'm still trying to discover many places to go! But sure, I'd really love to do some of those life action roleplaying!"
...Roleplaying? Come to think of it... "...Though now that you think about it, me suddenly coming to this Pokemon Center like this, asking for direction, and asking for juicy infos like it's some sort of quest does makes us sounded like some hero party, huh?" Agate joked. "In that case, so that you won't be some Villager A, do you want to join our party as a White Mage, Sid-sensei? Hmmm, but come to think of it, are you actually some sort of secret character instead if this is like the game? Like those mentor type character that just... watches over the chaotic party?"
Hmmm, indeed, Sid is right. Out there and overestimating his ability will be really dangerous. "I'll keep that in mind," Agate nodded. "Exchanging number also sounds good. My phone is more of older model though, ahaha! But I think it's not too -terribly- outdated? Anyway, here's my number!"
Staying together? "Well sure if you want. Penny pinching is good," Agate joked. "But seriously though, I suggest to get separate bed, not the bunker bed if we stay together in one room. I'm... a messy sleeper. Apparently my sister told me that I ever attempted a headlock on my pillow, so... yeah."
