Ash City... when Agate first entered the city, his destination is pretty much clear. The Pokemon Center. There's no time at the moment to gawk at all the advanced technologies. There are no time to stop and wonder what's doing what... in the end he just wanted to make sure his Charmander is doing fine. He reached the Pokemon Center not too long after, practically skidding in front of the entrance. While being inside the Pokeball did not aggravate the injured Pokemon, it doesn't change the fact that it's practically an emergency situation or sort.
"Hello, excuse me!" he immediately goes to the counter, rummaging his bag. With the egg Schera handed him, added with several Pokeballs from the catches, he ended up with more than necessary items; and it's a bit cluttered in return. He had to put the eggs on his wool blanket. Agate winced that he practically had almost no idea which ball contains which Pokemons due to him being in haste... Thankfully, just a moment later, an oversized Riolu gently pat him on the shoulder and picks up one of the ball...
"Oh! Thanks, Riku! You're a lifesaver! Uh, please put the egg back for now! Um, hello! I'd like you to please check this one, please... I mean, the rest too, but this one is important. I found this Charmander wounded in Route 8. He might got caught in the Skarmory Swarm... and well, uh, I think he's either very weak or just a newborn. I fed him a bit, the wounds already dried up, but I think he might need an intensive care or something!"
...Riku wonders if by saying all of that in one go would make the other listen to him. Eh well, whatever. He picked up the rest of the Pokeballs. Schera, check. Kagari, check. Vorpal, check. Azalea, check... and the last one is himself. But before that he put in the eggs in Agate's bag just in case before putting it back to his shoulder. Afterward, he put the team's pokeball on the counter, along with his own. He finally poked his Pokeball to send himself in for a recovery.

“Sid, you really should transfer here; Birch is so far by comparison,” the reception nurse sighed not looking up from her screen. She really had too much work to be doing to be chit-chatting, but well, Sid had become a friend in the last few weeks, and she just couldn’t help it.
A groan was her response. Standing on the other side of the counter and partially leaning on it was Sidney Ridley still in their nursing gab from a previous shift in Birch. They'd only stopped in Ash to catch up and get some supplies before hopefully heading home to Fuji. “I probably should,” they admitted. “Or even find one in Fuji.” It wasn’t like there weren’t other centers to work at. They were a full-fledged nurse now, and their rotations had finished in full… “But I like Birch…. Seeing all the new trainers come in with their starters is really rewarding.”
“Rewarding enough to make a three-route trek every to and from? Didn’t you say you have a baby cousin to look after. What’s she up to during the week?” the nurse chided. Sid sighed a little at that. That… they really couldn’t argue with. But still.
“If I had a Teleporter, it’d be so much easier—“ Sid was cut off mid thought as a boy suddenly rushed in. Sid was quick to stand up and sidestep allowing him immediate access to the front counter. Speaking of new trainers…this one had that vague dishelmed vibe to him. Their eyes dropped briefly to the Riolu that was with him that seemed to have it a little more together by comparison.
The nurse behind the counter had been quick to snap into action, standing and waiting. “Alright, let me see its Pokeball,” she answered his concerns. “Sid, can you keep an eye on things out here?”
“Sure.” A nod, and the other nurse was headed back towards the exam rooms. Sid took in a breath before turning to look at the kid. He was still going over his other Pokeballs, and they supposed they could have Nurse or Graces or even Hime take a look in the meantime, maybe. “Are you alright?” they asked him after a moment.
In this downtime, Agate decided that he should put his bag back in order. Pokeballs to Pokeball pocket, his mining kits to its proper place, the items from his mining to his treasure box, his journal, his ID Card, healing items... and finally his camping set. Yes, all is set now. He heard someone asked if he's alright.
Alright? Is he? That question made Agate stop on his track, as if someone just asked him what's the meaning of life. ...Er? Did he perhaps looked that panicked? "...Um, yes, I think I'm doing fine, how about you?" ...that sounded stupid as hell, and he knew it. "U-UM! I mean, I'm fine, yes. Just slightly frazzled. I thought my Charmander was doing fine and just need a bit of food, until I noticed that... its wound has opened yet again, although I haven't sent him out for battle or whatever. I... befriended him you see... and caught him soon after."
...Is that a good enough of information? "...And well, the moment I saw the light from his Pokeball fading, I... feel there will be a massive problem, so I ran all the way here, um..." Still too frazzled it seems. Agate tried to take a deep breath. "...Sorry about that, I'm... still high strung apparently, um..." Agate tried to look for name tag on Sid.
"...Um, so, uh... this might be sudden, but does this Pokemon Center also have any eyes examination for human or something?"
He really have no brain cell at the moment it seems. Rookidee Egg 2/3

The…Startled? Lost? Confused? Look that they received back was enough to answer Sid’s question. Their lips pressed together into a fine line as the young person before them responded. His concern for his Pokemon was about what they would expect from a trainer, but he also kind of seemed a bit frazzled? Well, I mean I would be too, though… At that age, anyways. Now a days, they had the skills and ability to heal their Pokemon themselves when the situation arose. Their eyes flicked back to the desk and then beyond to the exam room before sweeping back to the trainer again.
“It’s alright,” they answered his first apology. “She’ll get your Charmander patched up and ready to go again in no time.” Agate would see that they did, in fact, have a name badge on a blue Pokeball themed lanyard around their neck with the name Sidney Ridley written out with several nursing label letters next to it and their picture next to that.
The question that came caused Sid to pause thoughtfully. “Hm, if I remember right, this center does have the chart for it,” they answered glancing sideways again. “This isn't my usual center, but I’m actually qualified to treat humans as well, if you’re concerned about your vision. Ah, I don’t think I caught your name, mine is Sidney, Sid for short.”
"My concern isn't whether he's ready to go again soon or not though... I'm planning to take it easy for the meantime at least... and to learn more about him before doing anything. I think... after such traumatic event, he would probably not going to go anywhere for a while. Strengthen him up a bit, and after that just... you know," Agate just let his words trails off. But tat least, what Sid said sort of calmed him down, so that's a plus. "...Say uh... " Sid was their name apparently "Sidney, Sid? Er, what honorific do you prefer, um? Oh, and, the name's Agate! Agate Valyn. I think it was supposed to be 'Valens', few generations ago. "
Oh so there's also a chart in here--- wait, that's not the issue! He gotta explain it to them! "Oh, actually, uh, that wasn't the issue. I was going to ask something you see, more like..." Agate tried to find the word. "...Informal consultation or sort? I... admittedly don't have enough money, so if you could spare me a bit of your time to tell me what's wrong, I'll be... really grateful!" he sheepishly scratched the back of his head.
"Um, so... this... happened only recently, ever since I came to this region actually. I'm originally from Unova. So thing is, I started to see things that I'm not supposed to be seeing... I think it might be like... uh... hallucination or sort? I'm not sure myself, but sometimes it just turned on and off. Sometimes the world felt so bright at one point, then darker at another time... Sometimes I began to see some faint light on someone... Iiiii didn't want to worry my parents so I never said it, but well... It has gotten to point where I got lost several times thanks to it."
...How about now though? "...I'm not seeing anything like that at the moment though, so I guess it miiight be heatstroke, considering Fuji Town is sort of close to the volcano, right? But I wonder if I have intolerance to heat instead like that?"
Just at that time, crick, crick... the egg that he carried seem to about to hatch! Rookidee Egg 3/3

Ah. Sid frowned softly as the youth in front of them spoke. They could heal physical wounds relatively easily. Psychological ones would take some time and effort. That was part of a trainer’s job, though, at the end of the day.
The question that came after had them blinking briefly. “Ah.” Agate must have picked up on their accent or something similar. “Preferred is san, but seeing as they’re not really commonly used here…” They shrugged their shoulders lightly at that. It was actually kind of nice not to use them except in certain situations (like teasing Gaki ehehehehe). “Though my preferred pronouns are they and them….” they decided to say after the fact. Since that actually mattered a bit more.
The question that came after had their brows squishing together before one raised up. Informal consulting? What did… that even mean? “Uhm, well? Could give it a try?” they ask-stated back. He started to…. see things? Hallucinations? Bright and dark… Huh… Heat intolerance…
Sid set a hand on their chin and thought over what he’d said again rather carefully. “It sort of sounds like a nerve disorder?” they ask-stated back before shaking their head. “If it only happened since you got here, you might be having some adverse effects to something in the water or maybe some of the flora or fauna here. You might have to see a specialist for that sort of thing.”
Oh, so they're a gender neutral person, he nodded, trying to keep that in mind to not let it slip. "Alright, then because you're a nurse... Sid-sensei, then?" Agate decided. He only know a bit of these... language Kanto-Johto-Hoenn-Sinnoh people used. In Unova, the language is different, albeit they do speak common language that seem to be shared by everyone in the world as their secondary language. He have no idea whether '-sensei' is limited to just teachers, or anyone with title, such as doctors and whatnot.
Upon hearing that he need to see specialist, though, Agate winced. Augh... specialists are very expensive. "...Yeah, I feared as much," Agate finally said. "My family is in quite a deeeeeeep debt, so I really don't want to spend some money from it... but allergies, huh... I don't believe I'm allergic to any plants... but then again, different region, different flora and fauna..."
...just then, once again Agate's eyes glowed slightly, as if it's coated by light golden veil... "Agh... it's here again..." he lamented, and looked at Sid. Eh? What's that particles...? "...Sid-sensei, this place is not dusty the slightest, right? Uh, I mean it being a hospital for Pokemons and such..." He really hope that those aren't dandruff and more like his own visual problems. Though he guess he should explain it to him? "...I seen something like... whiteish particles floating around you... white and blue... Ever seen a snow globe? It looked like that... It sorta... cascading? No? Felt like... floaty? Kind of like snow really."
Agate tried to make sense of it by squinting, but looks like his vision going back to normal instead. "...Now I'm fine. What on earth was that?"
The street lights were already popping on by the time Josh returned from his Secret Base to Ash City. People were getting off work, and the city's night life was starting to come out. The rider dismounted Twilight at the gate and sat down for about fifteen minutes, sorting through his supplies to pass the time. No Agate came. "Hmm, must have went in without us. Alright, gotta bring you back into the Ball - cities don't like Pokémon riders in streets." He withdrew the understanding Absol then headed through the north gate.
The first order of business was getting his team to the Pokémon Center. The desk for standard healing appeared to be kiosk-based, which made him unhappy. Goldenrod City was a far larger city than Ash and all of their Pokémon Centers' front desks were staffed by people. "This is so impersonal," Josh mumbled as he navigated the menus, depositing his active team of six Pokémon into the kiosk's chute. After doing so, a message popped up on the screen, a plastic object the side of a credit card ejected from a slot on the side opposite the chute. The message read:
"All healing machines for standard recovery are currently occupied. We apologize for any inconvenience. Your estimated wait time for a healing machine is 41 minute(s)."
Grumbling, Josh took his card and read the instructions. There was a code on the back of it that could be entered into an Arciel government website, and it would tell him where his place in the queue was. All things considered, the wait time wouldn't be too bad, though it did not include the one-hour treat time. Having a couple hours to burn wandered the lobby for a while, eventually finding Agate, who was having a conversation with another person about Josh's own age. "Ah, there you went," Josh said, waving toward the young trainer. "I thought I told you I would be waiting at the gate - did I really lose track of time?"

Sid… sensei? Sid looked at the kid before them and tried to guestimate his age. Twelve? Thirteen? Fourteen? He couldn’t be fifteen, could he? Eh, anyways, they could be reasonably certain he was in his teens somewhere, so. “That works,” they answered.
Their features fell a little when he winced at their words. Yeah, that wasn’t their best prognosis, after all. At the mention of debt, though, Sid frowned even more. That was… unfortunate. “I see,” they answered softly. They weren’t sure what safety nets were and were not in Arciel for that sort of thing. In Kanto, they knew that there were plenty of ways that one could still see a doctor, but this region was foreign to them still. Hm, maybe they’d ask around….
Sid was immediately cut from this thought when Agate’s eyes started shining, and Sid did a double take. White… particles? Huh??? Sid tilted their head to one side and frowned. What did that even mean…. Neuropathy, from what little they knew of it, often included flashes, but…. I’m not a specialist… Diagnosing people was a bad idea, and they knew that..
The follow up assurance that Agate was fine thereafter earned a small hum from Sid. “I’m not sure, unfortunately…” they answered. “Maybe one of the other nurses knows…” They looked back to wonder where the receptionist nurse was. Perhaps the Charmander was in worse condition than even the boy thought…
A voice caught their ears, and they glanced sideways to find another person coming forward now. From the way he was speaking to Agate, it seemed as though they were .. at least acquaintances? Traveling friends? Something of the like. “Ah hello,” they greeted simply with a small smile and a wave.

Upon being approved that he's doing it right, Agate grinned widely. "You does sounds like sensei anyway~"
Hmmm, so as expected, there's not much that Sid knows either, and he must go to specialist eh... "...If I were to go to any specialist, could you at least, uh... give estimates of how much it will cost?" Agate opened his wallet. It's quite loaded now from various part time jobs, but he wonder just how much he should pay for that sort of thing... by the way, this is a lapse of judgement. If someone bad saw the kid's wallet, they probably would take it while he's not paying attention.
"Hmmm... other nurses..." Agate parroted thoughtfully. "...Then again I guess coming to Pokemon Center while asking about a human disease is a bit odd of me?" Agate sheepishly scratches his head.
Josh suddenly approached, asking if he really lost track of time. "Hi, Josh!" Agate greeted him. He quickly looked at his phone like wondering if that's the case... but he then noticed that it was his blunder. He wasn't waiting at the gate. "Oh, sorry! Uh, you see, remember the Charmander we met on Route 8? He was really weak, so... I thought I'll lose him... I sprinted all the way here hoping that I could save him..." ...perhaps it's a delayed reaction, but Agate winced at the pain that starting to settle down. "...Sorry, can I sit down a bit?"
He walked to the nearest chair and massaged his hurting calves. His soles also felt sore and hot.
"By the way, Sid-sensei... is them taking this long... normal?"

With the benches finally starting to clear up, Josh was able to take a seat next to Agate. He was about to ask why the young one looked like he was in so much pain, but that question was very quickly answered. "I'm happy you understand how much goes into properly caring for a Charmander," Josh replied. "They're very popular among younger trainers in Johto and Kanto, but too many of them either don't know how to protect their tails from rain or worse yet, fall into water during an accident. If a Charmander's tail goes out completely, it requires risky surgery to ignite again." The boy sighed, having given up a Charmeleon for that reason on his trip across Johto. "I've wanted to raise one myself - flying on a Charizard would be amazing. You'll see them in the aerial races often."
Speaking of races, Josh plugged in his phone to let it charge, then took a look at the upcoming events in Ash City. The race he wanted to enter was...this weekend, and practice had already taken place. The time trials were tomorrow, and the race was Sunday. He also had to make time for a Gym match this weekend. Busy, busy! The black-haired male faced the nurse Agate was talking to. Perhaps the practice ending recently had something to do with this. "Have you seen a large number of Pokémon racers asking for healing services this afternoon?" Josh asked the white-haired nurse, assuming they worked at this Center. "I wonder if that's the reason this place is so busy."
Post by Sidney Ridley on May 17, 2020 20:43:00 GMT
Hmmm. Sid reached back and ruffled their own hair as they tried to think of how to respond to such a question. There were so many variables that went into medical charges, and they hadn’t spent enough time with that sort of billing to even be sure what it would look like. And most of their billing type knowledge came from Kanto anyways. Their eyes did not miss the sheer amount of pen and whatever else he was carrying, but Sid wasn’t one to comment on that sort of thing.
Instead, their attention flicked sideways to the named trainer Josh. Ah, they had both been out on Route 8 then or something similar. “Ah sure, there are plenty of chairs,” they murmured making a gesture to the various places to sit. At the question, however, they hummed and looked back towards the exam room again. They couldn’t really estimate time. Some cases were just longer than others.
Still, as the trainers started chatting, Sid stepped sideways and around the desk back towards the exam room— only to stop as the question was directed towards them. “Pokemon racers?” they asked. “Ah… no this isn’t my home Center, actually,” they clarified. “This is a stop I take between where I work in Birch and where I live in Fuji…” They offered a small smile at that. “I’m going to go check on that Charmander, though… give me just a sec…”
They paused, knocked, and then entered the exam room to find the other nurse just finishing up with a potion application. The Chamander there was already looking a lot better than before. "Sid, is something wrong?” The nurse asked.
“Ah, no, the trainer was just concerned about how Charmander was doing,” Sid answered.
“Oh, well, look! All healed up,” the nurse smiled. Sid smiled back. Ah yeah. Sid stepped back and let the nurse carry the Charmander back to the front again. There, she was quick to return the small lizard to its rightful trainer again and give out some general caretaking advice.
"I think regardless whether it's Charmander or not, I'm not going to risk it. My Pokemon should be safe with me. Someone who failed their Pokemon has failed their own trainer way... that's what I believe at least," Agate answered resolutely. "Sure I might be pushing my Pokemons to train as much as myself, but... I'll drop everything if it's for their well being...
...Though, you're really big on racing huh, Josh? I wonder how does it feel to race on a Pokemon... Got any tips for a newbie then? Like, what Pokemon should I try out first, what's rental price and whatnot."
It's at that time his phone rings. "...Oh, sorry, gotta answer... Yeah, Dad?"
"Oh, Agate! Have you arrived to Ash City safely?" a man's voice called out. "I pretty much counted how long would it be until you arrived there, and I thought this would be the right time. Especially considering you're always lost in your little mining exploration..."
"...What the heck, Dad... that's just scary of how much you know me," Agate commented. "What's up? It's not often that you call immediately after I set off."
"Well, I was just worried, but hearing that you're not in any sort of problem, that's a big relief! By the way, I forgot to tell you... To celebrate a milestone of you arriving safely in Ash City, I'm sending something your way! Think it as a congratulatory gift or something. It's from me, your mom and your sister! Wait for it in Pokemon Center!"
"...You're saying that as if it's my first time going out for a grocery shopping!" Agate protested. "It's not a big deal, why are you making it a big deal? ...Oh well, I appreciate it."
Agate closed the call immediately after. "My pops tends to be... overwhelmingly supportive of all of my interest," he tried to explain. "He would often use money for his pension saving for me and my sister. Let's say he... hrm... a doting parent kind?"
Just as he was about to say something else, suddenly...
"Hello! Is there is anyone named Agate Valyn here?" a trainer, perhaps one doing part time job came inside.
"Oh, yes! That would be me," Agate tried to get up, but his legs still hurting. "Owowowow... right uh... sorry, but I'll still stay sitting here for a bit..."
"That's alright! I have a packet for you. Please sign here."
The name and address is correct... but it's a bit concerning how... well prepared his father is. Agate regardless signed. After left alone, he opened the packet, hoping for some food or berries... or maybe something slightly high end like a single evolution stone or something... A soothe bell perhaps? He would be lying if he said he's not slightly excited.
...The look on his face when he saw not just one but two eggs, though, could be said as humorous.
"...Dad, who in Arceus' world did you mugged to get these eggs!?" ...it's not related to farm animals the slightest! He would understand if it's Wooloo or Miltank, but what are these!?
But thankfully, he was snapped out of it by the arrival of Sid with his Charmander. The poor thing is fine! Agate was happy to greet him, holding him as if cradling a baby. He listened attentively to the explanation of the nurse on how to care for the Pokemon, occasionally nodding.
"Oh, before I forgot, could you please... identify these two eggs?" he asked to the nurses. Rockruff Egg: 1/3 Honedge Egg: 1/10
It was clear the nurse Agate was speaking to wasn't normally working at this Center, but was helping out due to the higher volume of trainers using the facility. "Was just trying to figure out why the place was so busy is all," Josh answered. He was about to address Agate's question when the tired trainer received a phone call, apparently from his father. He turned his attention back toward the two nurses who were addressing the Charmander's condition. To get priority service with this kind of volume meant the lizard must have been in pretty serious condition. "I'm just glad his Charmander is okay - he looked so excited. Thank you--Sid, was it?" he asked, overhearing the conversation with the other nurse. "Name's Josh. I'm in Arciel's Pokémon Racing League."
He turned his attention to Agate as soon as the sore one was off the call. "Anyone can--" Interrupted again, this time by a delivery. There were a pair of Pokémon eggs for Agate, one of which Josh immediately recognized as a Honedge egg. It appeared mixed emotions, though overall positive, overcame him. "One of those is a Honedge egg," Josh answered the question for him. "I've been raising a...rather stubborn one, myself. For whatever reason, he won't battle unless I'm holding him." The lines at the kiosks were getting much shorter, and there was also ample availability at the PCs on the other side of the Center - used primarily by trainers who couldn't afford the gear to do so remotely. "Mind if I show you something?" Josh offered a hand to Agate before remembering he had thrown out his legs sprinting the Charmander to the Pokémon Center in the first place. "Right...nevermind."
Watching as the other nurse instructed Agate on how to care for the Charmander, Sid smiled a little softly. Their attention shifted as the other trainer spoke, and they offered a small smile in return. “Welcome, and yep, Sid,” they answered. At the indtroduction, they gave a small nod and filed his name and face away for later. “I see,” they smiled a bit sheepishly. “I don’t know much about racing, but I know it requires a lot of harmony between human and Pokemon. And that’s wonderful.” They flashed a grin right after.
Red eyes blinked as Agate’s question registered. “Hm?” they looked down to the eggs that had been delivered there in their absence. Ohhh… They’d been about to describe the first, but Josh actually beat them to it. “It does look like a Honedge…” they confirmed raising a hand to their chin and nodding sagely. The mention of a Honedge that wouldn’t battle unless held, however, had their lips pressing together. A mental imagine of a certain man burned into their mind, and they took a slower breath at that. Hopefully… hopefully that wasn’t a similar situation.
Biting the inside of their mouth, Sid looked at the second egg. “Ah, this one is a Rockruff, you can tell by the pattern here…” they said slowly tracing along it. “They’re rather stubborn Pokemon but learn quickly…” Glancing back, they noticed the other nurse had disappeared behind the counter again as a few other individuals had come forward.
"Honedge? Honedge..." Agate accessed his phone's built in Pokedex to check the dex entry on them. At first he's muttering something like "oh, that's cool, a sword!"... to "sword got gender? Well, I guess they're really a Pokemon rather than just possessed object..." to "oh, they're perfect size to swing"... and...
"GHOST!?"
Yyyyep. Agate nearly tossed his phone away from the sheer shock of getting a ghost Pokemon. Although his Frillish, Azalea, is technically part ghost, she's at the very least a jellyfish rather than a haunted sword that took their trainer's life force if they wear them. "What on earth... Pops would never send me ghosts like this! He should have known..."
...Or does he have any different meaning? Hnnngghh... it's hard to tell. Rockruff though makes Agate scroll again... So it's a puppy Pokemon that evolves to a wolf! ...Huh that's neat.
"Rockruff sounds great, but I'm not sure about Honedge at all... Like, I just hope that it won't be haunting me all the time or something... ahah..." part of Agate just died inside. "...I don't have fond memories of ghost types," he admitted. "Not helping that I got scared easily whenever I'm around them and they decided to play tricks on me. There was a Chandelure back in Unova who took things too far with his prank, and well... that victim happened to be me. It drifted inside a haunted house and... well, the rest is you know."
Agate sighed long once again.
"Oh right, Sid-sensei, you said that you're going to Fuji Town? That's interesting. My family currently lives there too!"
The Charmander on Agate's arms starting to gently nip at his hand, being a little bit mischievous. "Hey~ Are you hungry? My hand ain't food you know? Come to think of it, I need to book a room or something... And Josh, what was it that you wanted to say?"
Honedge: 2/10 Rockruff: 2/3

"It arguably requires more harmony between a Pokémon and a traditional Trainer taking on the Gyms," Josh added, already trying to advertise his craft to a nurse who was probably too busy to listen. He made some of the rounds online while casually listening to the conversation between Agate and Sid, catching a sports headline about Silver League points leader Raye Feld suffering an injury while practicing for the weekend's race. She and her Glaceon would be out for a minimum of three weeks. "Wow..." Josh gasped, both at the footage of Raye's crash and of the course he would be looking at for the qualifier tomorrow. "That whole track looks brutal."
Agate's shout of ghosts took Josh's eyes off the screen. "...What I was going to ask you," he started, turning his head toward the clearly concerned trainer, then trailed off. "...Mostly I just wanted to show you some of my other Pokémon. You see, I have been raising Honedge myself. Maybe we could help each other out. Think you can make it to the computers over there?" Before he could get a reply, a tingling feeling began from his front pocket. "Oh, my number is being called. I need to go up front and sign off on the treatment. Apparently Bladestorm was hurt more than I thought. Shouldn't be more than a few minutes, though!" With that, he went up to the front desk, a sudden look of worry on his face.

As Agate exclaimed about Honedge, Sid’s lips pressed together uncomfortably. Don’t say anything. You don’t know his situation. They knew that, they knew that. But what are the odds an absentee parent would send their child Pokemon as a means to— Don’t even think about it. Sid forced a smile instead. “Well, theoretically you have the chance to be Honedge’s parent…” they answered. “Forming those bonds early may discourage being pranked on.” Maybe, possibly. At least it’s not part electric type… Anyways.
The follow up was easier to stomach. “Ah, yeah, I currently live in Fuji Town as well, technically,” they answered— only to immediately chuckle at the sight of the Charmander’s antics. “Looks like you’re feeling better…” They stretched one arm up and back as if to emphasize it. Their eyes flicked sideways again as Josh started talking. A pair of swords… or even three with theirs there. What were the odds?
Watching as Josh went over to the counter, Sid frowned softly. A small look of concern passed their features. They vaguely wanted to help out more, but their team was already worn from work at the other center. Red eyes flicked back to Agate again. “You might consider checking the eggs in for a checkup just to be on the safe side.”
So Josh wanted some sort of joint training effort? Sounds good! "Sure, why not?" Agate answered happily. "Training sounds nice! But first I gotta call my dad... I don't know what on earth he's thinking. Both him and mom should have known what happened..."
not too long after, Agate's call connected. "Oh, sup!" the voice from the other side answered "bet your packet already arrived? What do you think, do you like it?"
"Like it? Dad, wha-- What? I mean Rockruff is cool and all but HONEDGE of all thing? Dad did you forgot that I hate ghosts?" Agate protested. "If this is a prank, this is not fu--"
"What Honedge? What Rockruff? I'm sending you a Fennekin and several Pokeballs! It was quite old, I wanted to give it to you back when you were like ten but things happened and you know... Uh, they're old and all... but I really don't remember giving you any Honedge... or Rockruff for that matter..."
"...Are you telling me this is a.. mistake in sending address then?"
"I-I mean it could be! What's written there?" Agate's father asked.
"Just my name... and no sender name or anything... really, what sort of creepy mail this is? ...Should I return it to the post office or something?" Agate asked.
"Well uh... if your name is what's written there without any return address, it's might as well be yours then. The egg is pretty much already imprinted to you..."
just at that time, another parcel came, and this one is... the real one it seems, rather than the creepy mail from before. "...Dad? Yeah, I got your packet here... anyway, thanks. I... I guess I'll keep them then. Sorry about that..."
And then Agate looked at both Sid and Josh. "...You heard what happened I guess... I guess I'll bond with them as you suggested then, Sid-sensei! Speaking of which, do you happened to know any... interesting things going on over here? Like... what sort of mysteries going on, or if there are any happening that sounded like it needed a bit of exploration or such... or maybe rumors of treasures or any strong Pokemons?" as he goes, Agate's eyes sparkled in anticipation for anything juicy! He really want to know!
Oh right! The eggs! They need to be checked just in case. "I think I'd like to buy a portable incubator too if possible! Do they sell them?"
Josh headed up to the front counter to see what the nurse wanted. It hadn't been more than a few minutes, so there was no way that they could have all been treated. Treating a full team of Pokémon on a healing machine took approximately one hour. "Mr. Devlin?" the nurse at the desk asked Josh.
"Speaking," Josh answered.
"I just wanted to let you know that we may need to keep your Skarmory overnight - she took a heavy blow to her right side and to her chest." Josh's heart sank - the damage was far more intense and widespread than he had thought. He couldn't help but feel this wouldn't be the only time Bladestorm pushed herself to the brink of needing a serious medical procedure done. "The rest of your Pokémon should be fine. Your Dratini and Luxio were completely unharmed - all we did was gave them some vitamins." She put the two Poké Balls on the counter, returning them to their trainer. "Your Litleo, Skiddo, and Absol all only had some minor scrapes - a standard visit will fix them right up."
"Will my Skarmory be okay?" Josh asked, drooping lower and bracing himself against the desk.
"She should be okay," Josh smiling upon hearing the medical professional's prognosis. "It will require very minor surgery on her right wing. I'll just need your authorization for leaving your Pokémon here overnight. We can have the doctor email you instructions on how to care for your Skarmory while she is in recovery." He did so. "Now I'll need to scan your card." He complied with the nurse's instructions a second time. "That will light up when your other Pokémon are ready to go." He clicked the Poké Balls for Resheph and Blitz back onto his belt before rejoining Sid and Agate.
The racer walked in on Agate's conversation about hidden tresures, hearing none of his friend's phone calls. "There's always the ruins past Mount Grumble," Josh butted into their conversation, unaware of whether Sid would find it rude or not. "I thought I told you about those ruins on the way here? Thought we were going to head up there once you felt more confident in your Pokémon?" he reiterated to Agate. "Oh, right." After sticking the small card in his wallet, Josh procured the red prism from his last trip to the ruins. It was a fist-sized, hexagonal, red, translucent crystal with the number 20 etched into its front face. "I found this in the ruins up there," he showed Sid. "I think it might be some kind of ancient currency. Wonder if the lab technicians in Ivy would be able to tell me anything more about it?"
When asked about a portal incubator, Josh shrugged. "I never paid attention when I was in the Pokémon Mart; your best bet for one of those may be a local Pokémon breeder. Speaking of which, I need to get in touch with a breeder myself..." He shook his head. "Anyway, I just got back from speaking with the nurse. They're going to have to operate on Bladestorm. A very minor operation, but she won't be doing any battling for a few days. Sounds like outpatient surgery - she'll be fine, if a bit unhappy. Maybe this will teach her not to pick a fight with #&)#%# everything." He covered his mouth after that last outburst. "Sorry - that was uncalled for. I have a lot on my mind."
