Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
Having spread the word throughout Ash City by going to the Rangers' Guild there, Shalin felt it was time to move on. In Southeast Arciel, there were a lot of very small towns where the word about the attacks might still not have spread. Second, the brave yet affectionate Queen Zing had warmed up to Shalin nicely after some of the dreadful encounters Flit had saved her from in the Weeping Forest. She took Caprice to the Rangers' Outpost southeast of the city, which turned out to be a small towm in roughly the middle of nowhere.
Once she arrived, the blonde had found out how very small the place was. It was so small that it was arguably more a village than a town. Thankfully, there was still a tanner - the only one in town. Before entering, she released Queen Zing. "Alright, girl, hold still - before we go into town I need to put these on you." She pulled out three soft, plastic spheres with soft foam inside them, a large hole in the plastic on one side. It was almost like packing foam, but a little softer and porous as to keep the stingers ventilated. Two were about twice the size of her fist; the third, about three times the size of her fist.
"Now, raise your hands for me, would you?" She gulped as the giant Beedrill pointed both her front stingers directly at her trainer. While she knew the giant hornet wouldn't hurt her trainer, it was still intimidating staring them down. Her arms shaking, she carefully pushed the open end of the foam shields onto each of them, one at a time. She stepped around to the Pokémon's rear. "Now, mind raising your back for me?" Her companion raised her deadly rear barb to roughly Shalin's chest level as she took the largest foam shield and gently pushed it into place, covering its most potent weapon.
The Beedrill successfully pacified, the two headed for the lone tanner shop in town, Shalin headed to get Queen Zing fitted for riding. The shop owner gave Shalin the stink eye before serving her as she browsed for the kind of gear she wanted. The girl opted for something with a slightly oversized seat, given how much her Yanmega's more tightly-fitted seat rattled her around when he really got going.
She thought about getting Flit's gear refitted here as well, then decided against it when she saw the prices. These harnesses were really expensive! She wouldn't be coming back here again, but she did need to get Queen Zing fitted. Though the Beedrill was well-behaved, Shalin couldn't help but overhear the store's employees mutter about how crazy she was for wanting to ride a Beedrill, of all Pokémon. As their conversation continued, Shalin couldn't help but silently laugh, then chuckle aloud, then break into full-blown hysteria while they were measuring Queen Zing. One of them even broke out cursing, which was the last straw - she slumped in her chair, laughing uncontrollably.
Once she had looked over the gear that had been fitted for her Beedrill, Shalin still laughing, she decided that everything looked good. She immediately got a shout from the fitter and cashier on duty, "Now pay up and GET OUT!" She did as instructed, a huge grin on her face as she just couldn't stop laughing, handing them a rather thick stack of bills. Though it wasn't exactly cheap to shop here, this level of entertainment was well worth the premium price. She was laughing all the way out the door, breaking down in laughter upon the words "Crazy $*&%ing stupid &#$^% woman", as well as a couple of other more disgusting phrases, after Queen Zing crawled out of the store, hearing a slamming door behind them.
Coming to her senses after laughing uncontrollably for several straight minutes, she made her way to the post office, one of the largest buildings at the outpost. While she did not have a good time last time she signed up for a delivery route, she needed money. Queen Zing crawled alongside Shalin to the entrance of the small government facility before asking the Beedrill to wait outside while she signed up for a delivery route. With how rural this place was, she couldn't possibly get stuck on a route as packed as downtown Birch...right?
With so many people moving to Arciel lately, and so many hopeful young trainers constantly moving around, keeping up with the mail has become a nightmare! Luckily, many of those same hopeful young trainers are in need of a quick buck. Help the local post office by delivering a batch of mail to some of the more temporary residents in town. Just remember, tampering with other people's mail is a crime!
Instructions
Posts must be at least 150 words to qualify as a post. Each character present in the thread must post at least four (4) times to meet the minimum requirements for the job. You must deliver at least 3 pieces of mail to complete the task.
Outpost Alpha, Agate have heard this place. It's apparently the place where rangers gathered once, but now it's more to like a small resting post isn't it? Atop his Arcanine, Agate steered the fiery beast to slowly descend to the town. Jasper was in good mood. He managed to carry Agate all the way here with his Agility. It was such a short ride thanks to it, and both the Pokemon and Trainer's bond deepened to point where they understood what to do and how fast should they go. But it certainly helped that both Pokemon and the human shared similar personality... that they're not afraid to challenge the limit.
"...Let's enter, Jasper," Agate told the Arcanine, who barked in affirmation. It's a small town, but still, Agate's goal this time around is to master the art of turning while on top of Pokemon. He remembered that Josh said Arcanine doesn't have claws, but is it really? Couldn't it be that they have claws similar to cats, retractable claws? Agate have yet to check Jasper's to be sure, but Arcanines are guardians. Surely they do have claws? But regardless...
"Let's do a little bit of job, shall we? I'm running out of money, ahahaha~"
The Arcanine barked like saying "what did you spent it on anyway?" but surely it's something important so he can't exactly scold Agate too much over there... Just as they goes to the post office... from the other direction, approaching them... a huge beedrill...
"Ah, Queen Zing."
It's no longer a surprise, and for all Agate knew, only Shalin would ride such a Pokemon brazenly. The moment he saw the woman's blond hair he already could guessed. He waved at Shalin to greet her and entered the same time as her. For the meantime though, Agate talked to the teller.
"Six parcels and letters please. I mean, to whatever destination in this town."
"Six it is? Understood. Are you happened to be acquainted with the other person by chance?"
"Yes, actually. I think we can go together."
"Is that so? Well we have similar routes if you guys want to. Are these alright?"
"Absolutely. Thank you! Shalin, is this your first time delivering letters?" Agate asked. "I used to do this back in Fuji, but it's the first time I'm using ride Pokemon for it... it's a bit nervewrecking heh. But I think it's a great training for me and Jasper." WC: 405 pze08e2U
News travels fast in a small town, it seems. You enter the post office to icy stares. An assistant whispers to the postmaster. You can gather that she is questioning your competence.

It wasn't just the teller Shalin approached that gave her the stink eye - even some of the customers waiting in line on the other side of the opposite space had heard the rumbling of the large, yellow and black Pokémon. One older gentleman even let out some choice words describing her, though not directly at her. She didn't even notice Agate until they were both speaking to the same teller, who seemed much more friendly to the young man than to her. After all, she did get a lot of complaints about her deliveries in Birch, mostly complaints of mail being delivered very late. In particular, there was one livid woman who didn't get her child's birthday present until after the party was over.
"Ah, there you are," Shalin greeted Agate back. "Was wondering if I went to the wrong place!" The skinny female signed the paperwork for her half of the route, the teller snatching it out of her hands as soon as she was done. "...What's their problem?" the gree-dressed female mumbled while Agate asked about her previous delivery experience. "I did this back in Birch, and really didn't like it. But I need money, and in a town this small, it can't be too bad, can it?"
The teller came back with her six parcels to be delivered, stuffed them in a mail bag similar in size to the one Agate had, and shoved it in her direction. "Rude..." she mumbled, turning around to head back outdoors and onto the dust-laden village roads. "And now you know why I don't like cities," she continued, going off on a bit of a tirade about her experience in Birch, doing a similar job there. "Just...the people. I can't stand people like that." She climbed into Queen Zing's harness, keeping one hand on the Beedrill's reins and another on the mail bag in case it fell off her shoulder. Even when crawling along the ground using her six legs, she wasn't exactly slow. Once airborne, she would really take off and be able to make these deliveries in a jiffy. For now, though, she would let Agate determine the pace.
Whoah, whoah, whoah, what's even going on? Agate blinked when he saw their reaction toward him and Shalin... has she somehow done any bad things? What could it be anyway? "Er...?" Agate muttered as if he's wondering if there's anything different that has been done when it comes to him and Shalin. Huh... So she did it in Birch before, but apparently it... wasn't something that she liked?
"I can't blame you for not liking a job, but... in that case why are you doing this job again if you hate it then?" Agate asked. "I mean, postal offices are connected from everywhere, and... well, there are of course connected networks of them... rumors spreads fast..."
...He really have no idea how he can vouch for her if her motivation is just money... he could at least vouch for her if she said that she want to make up for her mistakes and or want to train, but if it's "small town, can't be too bad"... yeah, he really can't. "I suggest you don't jinx it..." Agate commented with a nervous smile. "It's... not all easy. Sometimes these people want to talk and share the background of their packages and letter with us, you know? And sometimes it'll ends up with you getting hugged by some Bewear, heh...
But anyway, I think it's important to be more patient, even if you can't stand their air, you know?"
It was a weak excuse but whatever. Agate jumped straight to Jasper's back after securing the packets and letter on a side bags. Agate might be messy, but he know the importance of letters and packages, so he put them securely, made sure that they're properly cushioned, and most of all, for them to not shake too much on the Arcanine's back.
"We're going at brisk pace, Jasper. Let's go!"
Agate shook the bridle rope, after pointing at the route of which the Arcanine should take. He looked at the map just to be sure too.
Your first mail route takes you up a steep mountain road. It seems they haven't been able to receive any mail in some time, and no wonder - the road is completely flooded!

"Don't let them get too far ahead, girl!" Shalin cried, putting hee earplugs back in and tugging on her yellow and black insect and clinging to her hard, natural armor. The giant wings fluttered back and forth as her Pokémon got them loose. Leaping into the air, her acceleration was almost instant, startling the explorer even though it wasn't her first time aboard. The giant hornet's wings buzzed wildly, Shalin unable to help looking to her side. While she was mesmerized at watching Flit's wings go, this Beedrill's were going so fast they disappeared from sight completely! Despite the added speed, the more aggressive insect was a much smoother ride than Flit; instead of being rattled about in the saddle, there was merely a constant tingling feeling. A strong tingling at that, but holding on was a lot easier.
As Queen Zing bobbed and weaved at Shalin's commands, the two had caught up to a distraught-looking Agate, Jasper stopped at a flooded road. She landed next to the fire-type and relaxed her wings. "Don't worry, I got this - recall Jasper for me, okay?" she asked, unable to hear her own voice. She lobbed Flit's Poké Ball over the Arcanine rider's head, Flit emerging from the Poké Ball and warming up his wings. "Don't forget your earplugs, okay?!" she shouted over the Yanmega's stretching.
Ah drats... the way was apparently very flooded. That... that's probably a great problem. Jasper looked around for any steps that he can use. For the meantime, he would look around before deciding the best steps.
"You sure you can do this, Jasper?" Agate asked. The Pokemon answered with a loud bark. Shalin came and offered Flit the Yanmega for Agate to switch to. It wasn't a bad idea and honestly sounds like cool but... time wise, they don't really have the time to stop and change ride... "No, I think that's... not the best option at the moment. I can't carry the packages by myself while on top of Flit. Sorry but I'll trust Jasper in this one!" Agate told the self professed wild rider. The Arcanine backed several steps. There's unmistakable sign of him using Agility, with white aura coating around him. The next moment... the Arcanine ran, and ran with all his strength! The moment he reached the edge, he jumped! But not done there, Agate called out another...
"Flame Burst, Jasper!"
It was only for a bit, but the Arcanine blasted a flame downward, trying to propel himself to reach the other side. Agate braced for impact, and hoped that this time around his gambit paid. The huge Arcanine sailed few feet above the air. Whether he makes it tot he other side or not, well... let's hope he did! [WC: 234] P4n|kp1R
Agate's strange maneuver manages to have him and the Arcanine sail over the deepest part of the flooded area... but you still manage to splash once you land... splashing yourselves a lot as well as possibly Shalin if she was too close. Aside form being a little soaked, you're fine though!

Shalin recalled Flit, a little surprised to see Agate turn down such an offer. It wouldn't take long for him to climb over. Perhaps he had his own flying Pokémon? Nope, he was going to have Jasper jump. "But that far?" she asked. Sure, the bags were waterproof, but not when completely submerged. Plus, this was a long jump. Even with the kind of speed Arcanine could reach, could Jasper make such a leap? "You don't know how deep it is! Jasper could get--" Too late.
Shalin watched Jasper sail over the flooded road. While she herself was quite reckless, she didn't intentionally put her mount in harm's way like Agate did. Maybe she'd do that to herself - Flit was living proof of that - but not to her Pokémon. Near the apex of the jump, he heard the rider shout for a Flame Burst. The flooded road was covered in steam, Jasper and Agate riding the thermals from the rising steam.
It was reckless, and could easily have burned Agate...but it did the trick, the Arcanine splashing into water that was only ankle deep. It was probably uncomfortable, but there would be no long-term harm. Shalin flinched as she and Queen Zing were splashed, the Beedrill landing on dry ground. She fluttered her wings wildly to dry them off, sending water droplets flying in all directions at high speed. "That looked fun!" Shalin smiled toward the two, Queen Zing crawling around to face them. "You should show me how to do that sometime!"
"Sometimes it's important to trust your Pokemon," Agate excused. "Jasper said he know what he's doing, so I'll trust him. If it's failed, then it's not just him that's at fault, but me also. We'll take the blame, and that's fine."
And their gambit worked! Agate and Jasper sailed faster. The thermal reaction was quite intense that it sent steam everywhere. It stings Agate's skin at first, but even so, he's well used to it, having stayed in volcanic region for more than a year now. Plus, what is three seconds of it anyway? Not at all important. The water that splashes everywhere though made the boy laugh.
"Great job, Jasper! You did it! Now time to head to the address!"
Jasper barked happily. He might be really dirty at the moment, but he's loving this! That was a fun adrenaline filled jump! Shalin meanwhile got splashed too it seems. "Whoops, sorry about that... And how to do it, huh? I think it's just regular stuff though... But you got to have strong grip on your Pokemon. That's why above there I decided to instead cling on Jasper's body rather than holding the reins. The other option was to use Flame Wheel to try to part the water and pass while a lot of it is evaporated, but exactly as you said I don't know the depth of it... Jasper seem to knew that too and decided to take leap of faith. You did great, big boy~"
Jasper barked once again.
"Kay, let's head to the address now! [WC:258] pBYpm8|j
You come up to the first house on your route and... does it.... look a little... haunted to you? It looks haunted to me, what about you? Will you approach and deliver mail anyways?
Post by Shalin Nariya on Jun 14, 2020 19:45:09 GMT
Trust, of course. That was the number one fundamental of raising Pokémon - understanding one's own limits and the limits of one's own Pokémon, as well. Flit was a very humble teacher of getting Shalin to recognize her own limits...and slowly push them farther out. She waited for Queen Zing to finish drying herself before replying, "Right - you have to be strong for that!" Raw strength was one of the things she lacked as a rider, keeping her from trying to tame truly strong Pokémon like Tyrantrum. She had left the powerful ancient in the Professor's care due to her lacking strength. This journey was making her stronger. Maybe after the delivery job was done, she'd give it a try!
The two of them continued farther into town, reaching a back road that led to their first destination: a mansion with red-tinted windows all along its front. It looked almost like a haunted house, a life Charizard statue glaring down on the two from the roof. Its menacing stare and wide-open mouth gave them impression that it could belch flames on them at any moment if it was real. "Man, people out here must make some real lettuce," Shalin remarked as Queen Zing continued forward, landing to crawl her way to the front door. She pressed the button outside the door, directing her Pokémon to move out of the way in case the door came slamming open.
Agate guided Jasper to the route, occasionally looking at the map, while steering on the Pokemon with his leg. The bridle is only to stable himself, or to brake suddenly. He's not sure if he can brake fast enough with just his legs pressed on the sides of the Pokemons, at least for the meantime when he's reading map like this too.
"How's the road, boy?" Agate asked to Jasper. The Arcanine barked happily. "Heh, sounds like it's favorable for you huh. Alright. After this we'll bath in hot spring!"
That one made Jasper more spirited. He hates water, but hot spring is one of the best thing ever made for a fire type! Or at least according to Jasper... but.. just as he was about to bark more to ask Agate for treats if he's doing good--- he saw something really bad and looming in front of him.
You. can't. be. fucking. serious. Even Agate immediately goes all eye wide at the sight of the house. Red tinted glass WHY. Spooky ornaments and gargoyles WHYx2. All of this just screaming haunted all over. The air, the mood, the cawing of Murkrows, and the dead trees. GOD. As much as Agate wanted to NOPE the hell out from this one, he had... deliveries to make.
"...Reshiram, if I'm dreaming, wake me up," Agate whispered some prayers. To be sure, he immediately called out Durandal, who immediately attached himself on his back. No time to waste... He readied the package, making sure that it's the right place... While still shaking like a dead leaf on a tree branch. [WC: 267] buKVhx3i
Slowly, very slowly, the door opens for you. An old woman with many many wrinkles, pale skin, paler hair, and dark eyes stares out at you. "Hello?" she'd ask As you show your packages, she thanks you kindly and asks that you set them inside the door for her. These old bones don't move as well as they used to. After that, she thanks you again and... just as creepily closes the door.
"You have a good day now!" Shalin left the delivery inside the residence. From what little she saw of the interior, it was practically a manor in there - the family must have been quite wealthy. The door's creaking noises didn't bother Shalin much; she went into far scarier places on a regular basis, often alone. "She was a nice lady," Shalin said to Agate before putting her earplugs back in again. "At least I thought she was nice..." She saw the younger rider seemingly locked in place, Durandal on his back and in range to draw. "...You alright? You look like you saw a Gastly."
Seeing how she wasn't going to get any help navigating, Shalin pulled out her delivery map, Queen Zing crawling next to Agate. Even with her mount's size, Agate still towered over her, his legs dangling at about the blonde's head level. She had a bit of difficulty interpreting the map, but saw there were a couple more deliveries to be made on this side of town. "How about here next?" She pointed to two destinations within a gated community on the north side of town.
....What on earth was that? Agate just walked up the stairs like a robot when he saw the old woman. Her eyes are black... her skin are pale... her hair pale-- well that one is at least normal but seriously, he's hoping that this lady is real and not some sort of ghost or demons. If someone thought Agate is dancing like a robot, they probably almost right due to how mechanical he is. Agate only smiled at the woman, saying nothing, then put the package on the told spot, gave her a "have a good day, ma'am" and... well, if he could be said that he bailed, then that was it. He literally JUMPED BACK to Jasper, finally breathing after what felt like an eternity.
"I might just have," Agate answered to Shalin's question. Ghastly, Haunter, whatever it is all ghost type Pokemons are the same to him. Doesn't matter which, he really don't want to see any of them in front of him, and they better have a good reason to be close to him, otherwise he'll just run as fast as he can. There are of course some exceptions like Frillish or Drifloon, but... yeah.
"Sure wherever not here I guess," Agate answered to Shalin's question. He really just want to get outta here as fast as he could really! Time to ride Jasper outta here! WC: 229 QpaWOiLP
The path you choose to take to your next deliveries seems rather clear! Well that was nice! Be careful of a few extra holes and uneven-ness in the road, but that's about all you have to worry about!
Post by Shalin Nariya on Jun 20, 2020 15:24:35 GMT
Shalin was unsure what it was that led to Agate's...strange behavior, but on the job wasn't the place to talk about it. There would be plenty of time to discuss it after their deliveries were complete...perhaps over lunch? Still, it couldn't help but bother her on her way to the gated neighborhood she pointed to before - she wasn't quite her normal, cheerful self. Even Queen Zing bobbing about didn't seem to cheer her up; in most circumstances, erratic flight like that would leave her smiling and giggling the whole time! The Beedrill flew in front of and above Jasper, the plastic-and-foam shield covering her tail barb accidentally rubbing against the Arcanine's head...all unbeknownst to her trainer. "Oops, sorry!" Shalin apologized, the yellow Pokémon moving to Jasper's right instead. Good thing her sting was covered!
"Now, don't forget, there are two deliveries we need to make in here," Shalin reiterated as the large gate loomed closer, the road beneath quite slanted and in dire need of patching in places. Even if she had chosen a land Pokémon, she was used to it - the Ecruteak and Olivine areas were full of rural roads like these. There appeared to be a hut of some kind outside the gate - presumably where they would need to stop to be let in. The great Beedrill landed just outside the gate, the two tilting their heads toward the hut and looking for the presumed warden on duty...
Hmmm, now this is odd. First it's about Agate... and then it's about Shalin. Speaking of which Jasper would be slowing down some to prevent any accident while running at high speed. There are holes in here after all... slowing down here seem to be still faster than riding bike though. It feels like riding a car if anything. It's speedy still. However, there are a bit of a problem it seems... something says to him that Shalin doesn't quite like this area...
"Something is wrong?" Agate asked after noticing that she's unusually quiet. As much as he wanted to make another idle chatter though, looks like the Beedril's spear hits Jasper's head, making the Arcanine bark like saying "what's the big idea there!?" He's not truly angry, just more perplexed at the sudden bonk on the head. At any rate, looks like Shalin knows what she's doing here so he just followed.
Hmmm, the road doesn't looks like it's heading toward the more bougie places or something like that... could it be that she's just moody because she's reminded of things back home? None of his business if it does, but it does makes him curious in one way or another.
