It was only really after the showcase that Elise really realized she hadn’t had a lot of one on one hang out time with Callie in a while! So when her father mentioned that one of his baking friends in Birch needed some help, Elise immediately cooked up the idea to text Callie! When she agreed, they made plans to meet up at the bakery, and Elise was quick to head over that way. Flight was easiest, and Stella was fast. Touching down in a nearby park, Elise then headed towards the bakery. Right before she got there, she saw—
“Callie!!” Elise called waving and then quickly coming up to her friend. “Glad you could make it on such short notice!” She beamed before looking up to bakery sign and then back at her friend. “Let’s hurry inside for now!” As much as she wanted to start chatting up a storm right then and there, that wouldn’t really help right then. So instead, she led into they bakery and met with the baker before quickly being ushered into the back.
The instructors were simple enough: make a tiered cake. That was just… like a regular cake but stacked, right? Right! "Ok... what do we need to do first..." Elise thought aloud trying to get herself oriented.

[attr="class","curragepost"] Callie was glad to have some more free time lately, thanks to a certain new assistant! Though she was still working quite a lot, since some things Elliot couldn't do, and as such she'd been in Birch for the weekend to meet with a potential sponsor. They still didn't have the most merch on the market, as while they'd made quite a number of different things most were small runs. Hopefully that'd make those things collector's items when they hit it big, but for now? For now it meant she had to work all the harder to get PNG's name out to the public!
Of course, that didn't mean she had no time for fun, especially when Elise had texted her about a fun-sounding mini-job right here in Birch! Calliope was ecstatic for the chance to spend some quality time with her number one crush bestest best friend, and quickly agreed. She'd beat Elise to the bakery and stood outside waiting to greet her.
"I mean I was in town anyway, so how could I not say yes?" she retorted with a giggle. "But yeah let's see what they've got us doing today~"
Oh boy, though. A tiered cake sounded both fun and challenging. "First we need to gather all our supplies, of course!" Callie told Elise. "We'll need all our ingredients, but also three different sized cake pans. See here?" She pointed to a picture on the recipe. "It's the kind that gets smaller as it goes up, like a--"
She stopped, blinked, and did a double take. "Oh!! Ellie it IS a wedding cake! Oh em gee! I wonder who the lucky couple is. Aaaaaahhh we gotta work extra hard to make sure it comes out super cute!!" It would be just awful if by some stroke of bad luck they managed to ruin this mysterious couple's wedding, after all, the author says, rolling a 23.
Elise nodded along with Callie’s words. “Right! Lessee…” She’d been a step towards the refrigerator to get eggs and milk and butter and things when Callie’s voice had her whipping around again. “Ohmygosh????” she squeaked. They were going to be designing a wedding cake? “Ohmygoshohmygosh….” They needed to work super extra uber duper hard to make sure it was the bestest best cake ever! “We’ve got this! We’ll make it PNG special!” she said throwing one hand to the sky and then making an index point with the other.
Quickly now, before she could feel too many other things about other things, Elise went to the refrigerator and started grabbing all of what she knew they would need. “Do you think they just want a vanilla cake? I wish the baker had said…. We could totally do a vanilla on top and bottom and chocolate in the middle layer…?!” But maybe that was what the groom’s cake was for? Hmmmmmmm….. There hadn’t been any mention of a groom’s cake so, maybe they should just do that!
Coming back with her arms full of cold stuffs, Elise set them down gingerly on the table and grabbed a bowl to start cracking the eggs into. “We gotta separate the wet stuff from the dry stuff first right?” she asked. She probably should have made sure of that before actually starting, but whatever right? Right!

[attr="class","curragepost"] As Elise started working on the cold stuff, Callie started collecting all the dry stuff and utensils. "Right!?" she responded to Elise's exclamations. She giggled when she said it would be PNG special. "Just probably not PNG style," she teased. "Though I totally wouldn't mind a punk pop wedding cake myself. But most people would probably think it a little strange." She giggled more softly.
"Ooh yeah. Or maybe a Neapolitan cake? We could do white on bottom since it's most popular, and chocolate middle for the next most popular, and a strawberry top for a special treat!" Assuming?? no one was allergic to chocolate or strawberry. But SURELY the baker would have remembered to tell them at least about allergies, so they were probably fine.
"Hm? Oh, no! No um set the eggs aside for a second," she told Elise. "First we've gotta cream the butter and sugar together so it'll be extra light and fluffy. Then come the eggs, and then..." She looked around at all the ingredients she'd gathered. "Wait a minute, did I not grab flour?"
She went back to the cabinet to look. Where... WAS the flour!? She squinted as she moved some things aside to look. Where was it? She moved to a different cabinet. ... Where WAS it!?!? She was starting to panic.
You are a master of separation! The wets and the drys didn't even know what hit 'em, especially with your enthusiasm and naivete tempered by Callie's guidance. Before long you have every ingredient sorted out in their perfect little spot. You'll be able to get this cake started in no time! Except . . .
There was flour in the cabinet, alright! Too much flour! A big ol' bag of it tips over, leaving you coated in flour in an almost comedic fashion. But at least now the bag's safe and secured, and you'll be able to grab it and get right to work.
