A journey to Birch City!
Raul considered his canteen of water carefully as he walked towards the exit gate of Bass City with a pensive frown on his face. He couldn't be sure, but somehow, someway, he had a feeling this wouldn't be enough to get him from his current location all the way to Birch City. He glanced at the map he had hastily drew down on some napkin with an even deeper frown. He was pretty sure he had copied it... slightly correctly. Were those squiggle lines trees or rivers? He did his best not to squint. He didn't want to get wrinkles, after all.
He remembered it being hard to read, anyway. It wasn't like a city map. City maps were more compact, made more sense, if you got lost in the city, you could ask for directions, and he was, of course, completely fine with asking for directions. It wasn't as if he could get more lost, right? But this...
This was the wilderness. It was a whole other... thing. He looked out at the long stretch of road ahead of him with slightly wide eyes. He glanced at the water canteen again. Maybe... Maybe TWO water canteens? There'd be... berries and stuff on the side of the road, right?
Wait. Weren't some berries poisonous? Was that a thing? He hadn't really paid too much attention to that part in school. Was there like a certain color of berry he should be careful of? Red berries? Blue berries? Could he eat grass? Grass was basically salad, right? He stroked his slight, scruffy purple beard.
And then, his eyes immediately focused on a young person, maybe not too much younger than him, dark skin - long purple hair, beat-up jeans and piercings. They were holding a sign next to a rather intimidatingly large canine Pokemon. Arcanine?
Ride for Cash
Raul blinked a few times. He shoved a hand in his fashionable black pants pocket and pulled out - absolutely nothing. He expected that, of course. He wasn't going to actually keep his money in his pockets, after all. He knew better. That's why he kept it in a small, secure in-seam hidden away in his shirt.
He managed a smile and gave a wide wave of his arm as he moved to close distance between them. "Hello there, my friend! I couldn't help but notice you're very gorgeous Arcanine there, and I just had to stop before I took my first steps towards Birch City, which I've heard is quite lovely this time of year. Though-" He stopped and stroked his scruff again, a sly smile coming to his lips. "Your hair might just be lovelier."
Then, he beamed and clasped his hands together in a one-clap motion. "I certainly hope you don't mind me stopping for a little chat. You see, I'm a little nervous about heading out, well, again, after what happened yesterday..."
Cue flashback of Raul passed out on the side of the road just a few blocks away from Bass City.
Raul cleared his throat. "Had a bit of an... incident." He waved his water canteen about in a vague motion. "Anyway, you must travel these parts quite a lot if you're offering what I'm sure is your highly valued and sought after service here! Tell me. Do you think I might need another canteen, or do you think this will suffice until I get to the nearest body of water?"
