The Halloween ball and maze festivities had been fun, but now came the long and arduous task of walking back home again. It might not have been so bad had Gaki been with them, but Sid had foolishly told her to head on without them as they needed to collect a few things in Birch before returning. Now they were finding the walk to be …. too quiet for their liking.
They’d played music for a little bit, but then seeing the drain on their phone battery, they’d thought better of it. Sure, they had a particular helper who would love to charge their phone, but giving it access to everything, especially after they’d taken so many pictures at the ball, wasn’t the smartest thing to do. Instead, Sid settled for singing to themselves. Their melodious low voice reverberated in the air carried by the cool breeze.
“Along the steady streams, I longed for you. Across the endless blue skies, I called for you. My beloved of long lost past. Your face comes to me in a hazy ghast…. Awaken my heart. Oh awaken my heart….” They repeated the lines along as they went not quite paying attention to their surroundings at that point. They were feeling… impassioned now with every repetition.
Although she had never really taken advantage of the training she'd done with her Drampa, the creature and she were able to fly together. Today was the day she actually used that knowledge. She had seen what the wind could do to a person if they weren't careful even on a ground mount, so she'd spent some money on a pair of flying goggles. She had a nice long scarf already and just made sure it was wrapped around her neck and face and a hat covered the top of her head to keep her warm. The rest of her attire was equally warm and insulated, which her new little friend was happy for. The Igglybuff was tucked into the woman's jacket and was able to peek out a little bit at times to see what was happening.
Soon enough, though, she was able to catch a glimpse of a person below and started wriggling, wanting to go see them! Soph was caught off guard by the sudden squirming and instructed Mati to land. "What's wrong, Skimmy?" The Igglybuff responded by immediately hopping out of her coat once the dragon was landed and hurrying back toward Sid. All the while, she sang her own tune, starting to jump and twirl and skip as she came close enough to actually see the person. Mati followed after curiously, Soph safely upon her back, and once the three came into full view of Sid, the black-haired woman offered a greeting, "Oh! Um... hello there." How... had Skimmia known this person was singing? Or had she just wanted to show off to some random passerby? Soph couldn't tell, but the little fairy was delighted to perform with Sid.

You would think that Sid would look up in the sky and see the girl and her Dragon Pokemon go by, but Sid was distracted now by their own voice and their own song. They were vaguely aware of the Pokemon around them and the rustling of things below but not of things above. However, when the Drampa landed and a song came to hear ears on the breeze, Sid registered it. Oh, another vocalist. How wonderful. They sang and moved all the while searching for the other singer. When they found her, well, Sid found more than the singer.
“Oh—“ Sid’s eyes had first dropped to the Igglybuff, but as a Drampa and then its rider came into view right after, Sid’s eyes grew. “A beautiful sight, a princess and a dragon… and a dragon rider…” they spoke softly almost to themselves before smiling and bending down to the Igglybuff. “A fantasmal sight this is…. a pleasure to meet a beautiful princess such as thee…” They reached out briefly to the Igglybuff in a hand shake before chuckling and standing again. “Greetings…am … I in your way, perhaps?”
The Igglybuff happily shook the singer's hand and looked over toward Soph and Mati as they were spoken to. Soph shook her head emphatically. "N-not at all! We... um, well, we were flying, b-but Skimmy there... must have... I guess heard you or somehow... saw you. I'm really not sure, but I'm... I'm sorry to bother you. I mean, if it's even a b-bother. I..." Stopping herself from rambling, she cleared her throat and moved to dismount Mati, only for the dragon to lift her arm and subsequently give the poor woman a face full of feathery fur.
Spluttering and falling instead of gracefully getting down from the big Drampa, Soph was red in the face even as the dragon snickered slightly at her trick. Skimmia appeared startled by this turn of events and made her way over to make sure her trainer was all right. Indeed, Soph was fine, but embarrassed.
Ah, an unassured Dragon rider…. Sid immediately classed in their mind. Oh dear… Sid blinked a couple of times watching the woman struggle to dismount. A very unassured Dragon rider… And a pesky dragon to boot. Despite themselves, Sid felt a soft laugh coming and going from them. “Are you alright, dragon rider?” they spoke closing the distance between them a little more. They looked her over for a moment before assessing that she at least looked fine.
Well, since they were there, an introduction, they supposed. “My name is Sidney De Ridley; you said the princess’s name was…Skimmy?” They glanced sideways to the Igglybuff. “What’s yours… and yours?” They smiled a little looking from the woman to her Drampa.
"Y-yeah, I'm... f-fine," Soph murmured awkwardly and moved to right herself, picking up the Igglybuff to assure her that she was fine. With the introduction, the girl looked up and smiled softly to show she was at least somewhat happy to meet Sid. "I'm... Soph. Sophronia Abelen," she clarified, feeling like it would be rude to not give her full name just as they had. "This is... the dragon is Mati. Skimmia is her... the, um, Igglybuff's name. Skimmy is a... well, a cute nickname I like to use." Pausing, she took a deep breath and decided it might be worth mentioning, "I... I name my Pokemon after... well, after plants. Sometimes I... I guess the, um, correlation is... sort of strange, but... yeah."
Sophronia… Oh was she a princess Dragon rider then?? My that’s impressive… A curious smile came to Sid’s features as Soph spoke. As Soph named her Pokemon, Soph looked form one to the other. Mati and Skimmia. Ah, how interesting. “Are you a herbalist then?” they asked curiously. “Or just very knowledgably with plants?”What kind of dual class typing is that even…. Though I suppose maybe Dragon Rider – Healer might not be too strange with just being a princess in the back history…
A pause. “Ah, I wish I had considered a naming scheme like that when I first started catching…” Sure they had Excalibur, but right next to that was Glitch and Nurse. Granted one of those was named for a class but still…
An herbalist? That was... an interesting way to put it. "Um... W-well, I don't... er, make medicine or... anything, really. I'm... I mean, the uh..." Her brows furrowed a little as Soph struggled to word this right. "I'm... a farmer. I have a farm--well, a plot of land, anyway--in Cherry Town. I just... really enjoy plants of all kinds," she settled on and smiled softly. Was that weird? Maybe...?
As they spoke about a naming scheme and how they hadn't thought to have one, the black-haired girl tilted her head slightly. "S-sometimes, Pokemon... don't mind a change. Or you could just... start now? No one... says that all of someone's, um... Pokemon have to follow a theme?" She was trying to be reassuring and she wasn't sure if that even was reassuring, but hey... she just felt comfortable with the plant theme on names. That didn't mean it was required.
OH! “Like Gaki—!“ Sid’s voice broke character and raised about half an octave in the process. They coughed once and put a couple of fingers to their lips in a silent apology for it. They listened in as she explained where her farm was located, and their brows furrowed a bit. Where was Cherry Town again? They still hadn’t gotten the full layout of the region, and unlike Kanto, Arciel wasn’t near as grid patterned in one form or another.
They nodded a little at the mention of possibly starting then. Yes, that was always an option, they supposed. I could always give them stage names too…. Hm, now there was an idea. Would any of them go for it, though? Ah, well thoughts for later.
After a moment, they responded. “My cousin actually bought a farm in Fuji Town recently,” they stated a bit softer now. “I moved here somewhat recently partially to keep after her.” And partially because it had been a good time to explore other regions’ healing practices. Sure, there were standards that all Pokemon Centers had, but the nuances of each region’s clinics could possibly offer some rare expertise here and there— or that was what they’d said when convincing their mother on the matter. She still wasn’t convinced, but that wasn’t their problem.
Before they could say more, though, a cry echoed in their ears and immediately had Sid standing up a little taller and turning around. Was someone injured? Was— The particular shade of blue caught Sid’s eyes before anything else, a beautiful shade mixed with red eyes. “Ah Nidoran….” No, that was Nidorina. She’d evolve exclusively into Nido— Oh a queen… They bet Gaki would like her. Did they really have anything that they could use to face off with her though?
Not really….
They looked back at Soph and offered a smile. “Sorry I’ll be just a second.. I really like bunnies…” they chuckled a little before walking over to the Nidorina. She squinted at them cautiously. “Hi sorry to bother you but…. Have you ever wanted to play a queen?” they asked with a small smile holding out a Pokeball.
Soph jumped a little at the outburst, not expecting this person to get so excited over farming. At the apologetic look, she gave an awkward sort of smile and listened to the explanation about their cousin and smiled. "Fuji is beautiful. I mean, from what I hear, anyway. So much space... and quiet," she murmured sort of dreamily. Cherry wasn't bad, but that just sounded amazing.
Once Sid spoke of bunnies and excused themselves for a moment, the black-haired girl watched and smiled lightly at the interaction. Quite suddenly, there was an incredibly loud bark behind her. Soph squealed in surprise and fear, jumping forward and running forward a few paces. Thankfully, she wasn't the type to fully flee and leave someone else behind. Seeing that it was a Lycanroc (which promptly snickered at the success of her joke), she sighed. Mati giggled along, seeming equally amused and wasn't at all frightened. Poor Skimmia, though, had screeched and run at the same time as her trainer. She now clung to Soph's leg, shaking. "I-it's all right, Skim. W-we're fine," she tried to reassure as she leaned down to pick up the Igglybuff.
Taking a deep breath, she watched the canine and then produced a Pokeball, releasing a Tirtouga. "Pero, use Aqua Jet," she instructed. The wild Pokemon did not appreciate this turn of events and began to use Thrash. Soph kept Pero focused on the one water-type move he knew, dwindling down the health of the Lycanroc so that she could throw a Pokeball at her.

As the Nidorina reached out and pressed the Pokeball, Sid smiled. Ah, wonderful… They would treasure this one greatly. Standing upright again, they looked back in the direction of Soph to find another Pokemon had since come up to their companion.
Oh wow… Immediately Sid was reminded of their singing companion back in Birch City. Halfheartedly, they wondered what happened to the Pokemon thereafter. Had they been wild and gone back to doing what they were doing before? Had they been trainer Pokemon and returned to daily life with said trainer? Sid couldn’t remember reading about it either way. Ah well…
They watched as Soph battled the Lycanroc with a well to do Type advantage in her pocket. Well, it would have been well to do had not such a powerful move as Thrash been thrown around. Sid winced watching it and was briefly hesitant to walk over but ended up doing so. As Soph threw the Pokeball, they waited to see the results only to frown a little thereafter. At least the Lycanroc didn’t immediately flee? “They’re both incredibly sturdy Pokemon…” Sid noted as they stood next to Soph again. They expected nothing less from (partial) Rock Types.
As the Lycanroc broke free, Soph became worried. She didn't want Pero to get too badly injured and, honestly, she didn't want the wild Pokemon hurt, either. Given that she didn't run, however, the woman was at a bit of a loss for what to do now... She gulped, looking over as Sidney spoke. Giving a small smile, she nodded. "Yes, indeed. I'm... concerned," she murmured softly and instructed for one more attack, but this time a Bite. The now-confused Lycanroc was unable to get out of the way quick enough and Soph immediately threw another Pokeball.
Part of her wished she had a different type of Pokeball for this but alas, she didn't think she had one that would be more helpful at this time. Watching the Pokeball, she clenched her fists anxiously, hoping the canine would just stay in it this time.
“Daijoubu— it will be alright…” Sid replied back to Soph. “… Breaking character a little bit.. I am a nurse, so if either get too badly injured, I can tend to them.” They smiled a little sideways at her. Luckily, it seemed that with only an attack or so, the Lycanroc was indeed caught. “Look, it turned out just fine.” They smiled a little after. “Good work, Princess Soph.” Their attention remained on Soph for a moment before they glanced forward again up the way that led to the Weeping Forest and Ash City in turn. “We should probably keep going,” they commented before starting on again after.
A nurse! Soph looked at her companion, quite impressed with this bit of information. "R-really? Thank... thank you!" Nurses had such grueling jobs, she thought. Having to make sure everything went as right as possible. Plus how busy Centers were; if that was Sid's goal, anyway.
As everything turned out all right, the black-haired woman smiled and nodded. "Thank you," she responded quietly. It was good to get reassurance. Letting the Lycanroc be sent back to storage, she nodded. "Then, um.. L-let's go. W-would you, um... if you'd like, I... I think Mati would be able to carry... If you're interested, that is, she should be able to fly with both of us?"

Soph’s surprised look earned a wide smile from Sidney. “You’re welcome,” they replied warmly. For as stressful and difficult as nursing could be sometimes, it was rewarding in many ways— one of them being this en-route style healing in particular.
The offer that came at the end of the battle had Sid’s eyes flash with a brilliance that could only be described as awe. “I’d love to be a dragon rider for a day!” they answered, their gaze flashing from Soph to Mati and back again. “If that’s ok with you, Mati….” Of course Soph had offered, but Pokemon were sentient and all.
If the answer was yes, Sid would wait a moment for instruction on how to get on and/or just climb up if they didn’t receive any immediately. While they were mostly lanky, they had some strength to them and would be able to pull themselves up and over alright. Right after that, though, they would lean forward some and once more grin anew. “Marvelous….” They needed to get one of these somehow, someway.
