Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
Marcus is setting out on another path. Travel in this direction is maybe less interesting in terms of what Pokemon there are available to catch, but on the other hand, he might catch a water-type, which would surely be helpful. Thus he had packed up his things into his bag. (Making sure, of course, to keep his egg carefully wrapped in the top of the bag, so that it would be safe and warm while he walked.).
Thus he set out along the route that is normally the first people travel down, and who knows what he would find?
A new day dawned, and the air was obnoxiously chill. Akane had stayed the night in the pokemon center in Cedar, and after some thought, had decided to return to Route 1 for some training the next day. She hadn't counted on the lowered temperatures due to the seaside breeze, and goosebumps prickled her arms as she traveled down the path. Though she was loathe to meet with other erstwhile new trainers on the road, she acknowledged that she'd inadvertently built her team a little too quickly to get a good feel for their capabilities. With her three new 'rescues' in place on her belt, all healed up from their stay in the pokemon center, she wanted to get through a few easy rounds with a couple wild pokemon before she chanced moving onwards to the first Gym. [break][break] She allowed a few of her team - the ones she trusted not to wander off and away - out of their pokeballs as she travelled. Ponyta was especially sensitive to sounds, and she felt an odd sort of affinity with Ekans, who had been her first pokemon from the professor. The latter draped herself across the horse-pokemon's back, and Akane travelled on foot beside them. Between the three of them, she was confident that she'd know if anything was coming. The scenery was, by now, familiar enough that Akane didn't pause to gape at it. She strode purposefully down the marked pathways, pausing only when Ponyta stomped a warning. The triad came to a halt just as a blonde-haired young man in a suit rounded the bend in front of them. [break][break] With a shrug, Akane indicated that Ponyta should go forward. Thus far, there was nothing special to see here.
Marcus is walking with his Pokemon down the trail. With him is his Perigee, his Riolu and the Pokemon he trusts most to walk around on her own, and his Litwick, Eclipse, who he has grown quite used to having sit on his shoulder or stand near him. As he walks, he rounds the bend to find a woman standing with her Ponyta, one of the very brightly colored regional variants, he thought. After a moment, they started to move forward, but Marcus decided to stop and greet them. After all, how else could he meet people in this new region, but by talking to his fellow trainers. "Hello! You have a fine specimen there; they don't have Ponyta like that where I come from." After a moment, he decides that he probably also introduce himself. "I'm Marcus, by the way. Good to meet you!". He offers a hand to shake.
Akane frowned when the stranger called out a greeting, her brows furrowing as Ponyta blushed and tried to hide behind her upon being complimented. "Right. Thanks, I guess?" she offered, somewhat flummoxed that the man chose 'specimen' as a descriptor for the Galarian pokemon. She didn't disapprove, per say, but not being prepared for the verbiage, it took her by surprise. To be fair, the entire reason she had caught the Ponyta was for the novelty of its coloring; being from Johto, the regional type variant had been new to her, too. She could hardly blame the stranger for noting it first thing. [break][break] The man introduced himself as Marcus, and outstretched a hand for her to shake. Akane stared at it perhaps a moment too long before she returned the gesture. "Akane," she noted shortly, taking her hand back after a brief but firm exchange. At least this guy hadn't immediately challenged her to a battle - yet. She eyed the Riolu at his side, and the Litwick at his shoulder. Ekans curled over her shoulder, draped between her and Ponyta; the snake pokemon blinked lambent yellow eyes at the strangers, tasting the air with her tongue. [break][break] "If you're heading to Cedar, you don't have far to go," Akane offered, simply to have something to say. While overly enthusiastic preteens were easier to dismiss, it was harder for her to justify ignoring a perfectly polite adult. She might not have been jumping for joy at the prospect of unnecessary personal interaction, but she wasn't a complete asshole. She could at least provide the most pertinent information to the circumstances. Of course, then she ruined the olive branch entirely, taking in the man's immaculate outfit with a somewhat dubious air. "Are you a trainer? You're not really dressed for it."
Marcus is about to reply, defending his choice of outfit as stylish and (if augmented by clever design choices, a sturdy jacket for the weather, and a good helping of telekinesis to keep the dust and dirt off) practical, when he hears the cry of a Pokemon in pain. Running towards the noise reveals a pair of small Pokemon, a Vulpix and a Azuril, in the middle of a flock of noisy Cramorants. The birds were tormenting the small Pokemon, possibly with the intent to eat them! Marcus immediately resolves to go try and save the smaller Pokemon; He says "Sorry, no time for small talk, I think." and moves to intercept the birds with his own Pokemon. Presumably, Akane follows.
As Marcus and Akane came up behind them, the birds immediately turned on them, wheeling around to threaten the two trainers, rather than their previous targets, which continued to cower where they had be trying to hide. The flying-types flock over them in service of what is clearly a boss Pokemon. Marcus will command Perigee to go forward firstly, since she is already out of her ball. The Riolu is a poor choice of Pokemon for this fight, however, since it's claws have little effect on the water-type Pokemon. She gains some mileage, however, out of making quick darting strikes whenever the Cramorant move close to attack, preempting every strike with one of her own. The fight drags out nonetheless.
Whatever the other man was about to say was cut off by a sudden avian shriek. Ponyta's ears perked, and she whinnies shrilly in answer. Marcus took of running towards the source of the sound; Akane rolled her eyes and followed. Ponyta and Ekans followed, but Akane returned them both to their pokeballs once she saw the hoard of Cramorant up ahead. Her gaze fell to the Azuril and Vulpix cowering from the Cramoran's onslaught - but her attention was quickly recaptured as the angry water types turned on her and Marcus instead. [break][break] "Ugh. Pain in the ass," she muttered. "Fine. Pikachu, show me what you can do. Ponyta, come back out." She released the two pokemon with a flash of bright red light. Though her Shinx might have a better type advantage, Akane didn't trust the newborn in an official battle yet. Ponyta and Pikachu would be more than enough for now. [break][break] "Help his Riolu, and protect the other pokemon. Pikachu, fry them with a few Thundershocks, and Ponyta, try out a Confusion or two." Both were long distance moves; they wouldn't need to close with the other pokemon. Immediately, the air was filled with electrical bolts and psychic pulses. The Cramorant shrieked as they were hit, flapping harshly as they struggled to maintain altitude despite the damage. [break][break] Akane took the opportunity to edge around the battlefield, taking up a protective stance in front of the battered Azumarill and Vulpix. The two pokemon looked up at her tearfully, but Akane had turned back to direct Pikachu and Ponyta again. The electric type had already fainted one of the lesser Cramorant, while Ponyta and Riolu together had taken out the second. The Boss looked fairly battered, too, but the larger pokemon was clearly stronger than the rest.

Marcus was glad to see his new acquaintance moving to protect the weakened pokemon that they were trying to save; that let him free up focus to try directing two pokemon. Not that his Riolu really needed it; she understood her own martial arts better than he did, after all. He had faith in her. "Apogee - Go!" he shouts as he throws the ball of his small owl pokemon into the air.
The Rowlet proceeded to circle the fight, firing leafage attacks when commanded into the fray at the boss. It was fortunate for her that the Boss Cramorant was tied down fighting three other Pokemon in melee, because otherwise it might have been able to pursue the source of the super-effective attacks from the air and take out the, overall weaker, Pokemon. The Cramorant was theoretically quite powerful, but outnumbered as it was and limited in the speed of it's attacks by the need to charge, it was ulitimately overwhelmed, and toppled, as only a 4ft-tall seabird can, over.
With the Cramorant's defeated, Marcus rushed over to the side of the injured Pokemon, now rescued. He returned pokemon other than Rowlet, who had flown to a height to keep watch for other attacks, in order to avoid crowding the weakened pokemon. Marcus will go up to the Azuril, and attempt to comfort it, even going so far as to offer it a luxury ball, a fine place to rest and live, if it will join him.
Marcus released another pokemon, a Rowlet, and between the four combatants they managed to take out the boss Cramorant with little fuss. As the water type bird collapsed besides its decimated fellows, Akene returned Pikachu and Ponyta to their respective pokeballs. By the time the telltale tech lights had vanished, Marcus had already approached the shivering Azuril, trying to offer the young pokemon a place of safety within his team. [break][break] Akane watched the other man carefully for a moment, before she shrugged and crouched down beside the Vulpix. Perhaps her movement, or Marcus's words, scared the Azuril off; the water type scurried away as Akane balanced on her heels, facing the fire fox. Akane watched it go, and then trained her gaze on the remaining pokemon. "What about you?" she asked, holding out a Nest Ball for the Vulpix. [break][break] She didn't need it on her team, per say. If she were only concerned about balancing types, Charmander had fire covered for her. But it seemed to be the thing to do, if Marcus's actions were any indication. And surely traveling with her was safer than being picked on by a hoard of Cramorant.

Marcus leans back and sighs in annoyance as the Pokemon he had hoped to capture runs off and dives into the water. "How unfortunate. Still, there's little that can be done about it. You caught that Vulpix, though? That's good!". Marcus gathers his Pokemon to him, and returns all of them bar his litwick to their balls. He rummages through his bag, making sure that his egg and his possessions are all in proper place despite the fighting, and then bringing out a handful of trail bars and a bottle of water. He offers one of the bars to his new companion wordlessly, and slumps against a tree.
(OOC: How are we working out levels for this? Also, apologies for the delay)
You can receive up to 7 levels for battling the Cramorant group. There were two of you so the levels are split 3 and 3. Feel free to give those to your Pokemon as you see appropriate.
