[attr="class","shea"] Shea pulled their soft purple jacket a little tighter around themself as a sharp gust of cold wind blew. It wasn't the coldest day they'd had this winter, and at least it wasn't snowing, though there were a few patches here and there that still hadn't melted from the last snow. But that windchill was harsher than they'd expected, and they wished they'd worn a thicker coat instead of this light hoodie. They especially wished they hadn't gone for a cute crop top under it, though the hoodie was zipped up to cover it now at least. Fortunately they had the sense to wear proper jeans and boots, so they were doing okay, but every time the harder gusts came it sent a small shiver up their spine.
Prince, their Shiny Spritzee, floated alongside them, seemingly unbothered by the cold, but occasionally bobbing around in the wind and having to readjust his course. Shea chuckled a bit as the Spritzee gave a frustrated chirp and pushed himself a bit closer to his trainer once more.
"Guess we could've picked a better day to come out, huh?" Oh well. Shea hadn't had any other plans today, and was caught up on all their school assignments. And talking with Gabe the other night had really inspired them to get their training act together! They'd even bought a little surprise for Prince, but they'd wait until a bit later to give it to him. They wanted to do at least one battle first. But they had to find a wild Pokemon to do that...
From an open pocket in their backpack, a scent wafted. According to the store people, it should draw in more Fairy-type Pokemon! And speaking of fairies and their backpack, the Milcery egg they'd gotten for Christmas was in the main pouch. Hopefully, it was close to hatching by now!
“Down the road of ice and snow and light aglow with powder… draped in chill and warmth alike in this unduly power….” Sid was sort of hum-singing the words under their breath as they walked down the path home again.
They’d gotten pretty used to this track now with their favorite nursing rotation being in Birch City while their home was in Fuji Town. They traveled by many means, some of them public transit while others being rideable Pokemon now in their arsenal. Still, other times they preferred the subtle crunch of snow under their boots as they walked it. That day was the latter scenario. They were headed home after a few days of stay in Birch, and it was just so pretty out nix the wind.
Floating about with the flurry of chilly weather, their Frosmoth, Queen Mothra, was very much enjoying himself. He was huge but seemingly hard to see out in the light like this and with snow on the ground. And it was him that happened to catch a scent that was probably supposed to attract other Pokemon.
A strange noise escaped from Mothra, and Sid was pulled from their thoughts and song in the process. “Hmmm??” They looked about and then did see someone in the distance. “Something catch your interest?” they asked— as if the moth wasn’t already headed that way. Sid sighed and walked quickly to catch up with the person. “Hello there!” they called…. Right before Frosmoth swopped in to press himself flat on Shea’s backpack. What a goof.
[attr="class","shea"] Shea walked along unaware of anyone nearby, the sound of the wind obscuring any sort of footsteps or anything. Whether it was just gently blowing across their ears or howling in full, it was still pretty loud right now. Eventually, though, the faint sound of a voice did catch their ear, though they couldn't make out the words. "Hm?" They turned to see someone with white hair approaching.. with a massive moth in tow! "Oh??"
They were greeted by the stranger just as the Frosmoth landed on their backpack. "Bfdpdff-- Hey! You're not a wild fairy, shoo, get off!" they protested, though it was said with a gentle enough tone that they didn't actually seem to upset, and was followed up by a light laugh. "This big lug yours?" they asked the stranger, as if it weren't obvious.
"Anyway, always nice to meet people on the road, eh? I'm Shea! They/them pronouns, please~ What about you?" They smiled.
Sid snorted softly but gave a nod to Shea’s question. “Yeah…” they answered reaching forward and lightly tugging the Frosmoth back by his neck fluff. “Seems he’s a fan of your backpack….” The Frosmoth took in a couple of deep breaths of incense before finally easing off Shea’s backpack and fluttering back happily. Sid gave him a sideways glance, but the moth only smiled back.
Their eyes flicked forward again and widened a little at the introduction. “Sidney Ridley, they/them as well, actually,” Sid smiled a little. “Nice to meet you, Shea.” Huh, they could actually smell what had attracted Mothra now, actually. “I’m headed home to Fuji town… out Pokemon hunting?” they asked.
[attr="class","shea"] Shea put on an all but pouty expression when Sid said Mothra was a fan of their bag. "Yeah, well, I've got some incense in there. But it's supposed to attract Fairy-types, not Ice or Bug." They shifted the bag around and peeked into the open pocket where the incense lay. "Maybe I got the wrong kind by mistake, or maybe it's faulty..." They shook the bag a bit, but then shrugged and let it fall back to its normal position on their back.
They lit up a bit at hearing Sid also used they/them pronouns. "Oh yeah? Neat! A pleasure to meet you too, mi-they-dy~" They gave a cheesy grin and a cheesier little half-bow before giggling. Pokemon hunting? "I guess so. Training in general, too, but hopefully trying to find some fairies like I said. If the darn incense will work right."
Just then, their bag began to wiggle a bit. "Huh??" Ooh right, their Milcery egg! "Hey speaking of fairies!" They brought the bag around again and dug out the egg before setting it on the ground. It rocked back and forth just a bit, and Shea watched expectantly.

Fairy Incense? Sid’s lips quirked a little as Shea spoke. “Perhaps he was one in a past life,” they chuckled shrugging their shoulders softly. That would be a nicer explanation than it being faulty or broken or whatever else.
At Shea’s words and mid-bow, though, Sid grinned widely back. “How courteous,” they answered. A hand reached to their chest, the other out to the imaginary end of a dress, and a small curtsey-bow was given back. At the explanation, though, they gave a small nod back. “Makes sense— Hm?”
Warmth flooded Sid’s features on seeing the egg produced and set down. “Oh a baby….” Out of habit, they shifted their own bag and started fumbling for their medical case. Pulling it out and setting it down, they crouched and waited. “Do you know what’s in it?” they asked. Judging from the exterior, they sort of have an idea, but they couldn’t be too sure just yet.
[attr="class","shea"] Shea blinked at the theory, then smiled wide and laughed. "Is that it, big guy? Do you have a fairy soul under that buggy exterior?" They did like that idea, haha.
The curtsy had them snickering as well. But more pressing matters came to their attention.
The egg wriggled around, the outer shell beginning to chip off as the larval 'mon inside glowed and shifted form. Shea gave a long gasp as the Milcery finally stopped glowing. "Oh my Goooood she's so tiny!" they exclaimed. "My new Milcery!" they belatedly answered Sidney. They carefully scooped her up into their hands, and the little baby looked around in awe at her first clear look of the world. "What a precious princess." They turned to the purple Spritzee floating alongside them. "Prince, do you mind if we call her Princess? She can be your new little sister!" The Spritzee considered it, but then chirped in agreement.
A strange noise reverberated from Mothra, and fluffy winter wings fluttered a little more than before. He bet he could be a Fairy under all the Ice and Bug! He was certainly cute enough according to himself! But then both humans had switched their attention to the egg, and he was left whining a little sadly.
Sid’s eyes grew as such a tiny Milcery appeared from the egg. A soft chuckle escaped from them, and a hand reached up to press a few fingers to their lips. “How precious….” Truly. As if baby Pokemon weren’t already cute enough, this one had the audacity to look squishy and soft as well. At the mention of a princess, though, their eyes grew. “Truly of nobilit—“
Sid didn’t get a chance to finish their statement before Mothra was suddenly up in their face. “What’s wrong— I wasn’t ignoring you. I was—“ Mothra was making low, strange buzzing tones, though, that signaled anxiety more than aggression. A few more cries caught their ears but not from Mothra. That sounded like— Sid’s eyes pulled away and found…. A sea of floating ice cream were coming out from the brush. Swirlix??? “Oh the incense…” Had finally worked to excellent effect???
[attr="class","shea"] Shea giggled happily at their cute new little baby, and a little more at Mothra squishing Sidney. But then their attention was called to the approaching sounds, and they looked up to see-- oh... oh damn. That was a LOT of Swirlix, and they looked strong... Maybe Shea didn't think this incense thing through... Had they grabbed the Extra Strength by mistake? Was that even a thing incense could be?
Either way, the Swirlix soon proved their aggressive intent as one shot an Energy Ball off as a warning shot, and another fired a broad Sticky Web all over Shea and Sid. Great! So running wouldn't be an option at least immediately. "Gross!" Shea whined. It was all in their hair, ew.
Meanwhile, the Energy Ball had crashed into a cliff face, and it seemed the sound disturbed the occupant of a small den in the cliff, an angry Jigglypuff coming storming out. She began yelling at the trainers as the Swirlix horde closed in. "Dammit!" Shea pursed their lips, but it seemed their was no way out of a fight, so they dug out two Pokeballs and tossed them out before scooping up Princess to keep the baby safe.
Their Honedge and a very tiny Snom took the field just as the Bravest of the Swirlix charged in. (Lv24) "Prince, Queenie, take care of this Swirlix!" As the Jigglypuff came charging as well, they added, "Knightly, he's yours!"

Sid grimaced when Shea was sprayed with that gross Sticky Web. Their attention couldn’t afford to stay on Shea for long, however. The Swirlix were continuing to bark aggressively. The largest of them was preparing a Fairy Wind alongside a slightly smaller one while the absolutely tiny one was forming an Energy ball.
“Mothra, I’m going to need your help,” Sid spoke before grasping two more Pokeballs. “Highness, Cupid, let’s go!” In a flash, a Nidorina and a Cleffa appeared— the latter much more substantially confused by the sight before him than the prior. “Mothra, block as much of that Fairy wind as possible with Icy Wind! Cupid, move in with Sweet Kiss on as many as you can! Highness, Poison Sting!”
The Fairy Wind collided with some Icy Wind and while the latter was powered up some and didn’t completely dispel, it was weaker than it would have been otherwise. Mothra took most of the damage but shook it off as best he could. Cupid went waddling through the mess and managed to kiss one confused as heck Swirlix on the forehead before hopping over to another and trying the same. The first Swirlix swayed confused and managed to shoot a Fairy Wind off on another Swirlix that wasn’t so much injured by the attack but disgusted by the accident. Too bad that very same Swirlix would meet another Sweet Kiss right after and be equally confused!
Highness knew her Poison wasn’t that strong, but if Sid was willing to give her a chance, she would not fail! Filling a Poison energy needle, she sent it shooting at the Swirlix! To great effect! It was poisoned and confused! A double whammy! She did it again! This time with Mothra’s Helping Hand powering up the damage just a little bit more! Another one of the Swirlix broke into a round of Fake Tears that had Sid wincing and a a few of their Pokemon frowning as well. “Keep going guys! Fend them off!” Sid encouraged all the same, and they went for it for now.
The large Swirlix seemed to be the ring leader, so Sid decided to grab a Pokeball (oh huh a Premier ball, nice) and toss it at it!
Catching the level 30 Swirlix. It is currently confused AND poisoned. Frosmoth (Mothra, 26, huge), Drampa (Lord, 27, large), Haunter (Phantom, 28, small), Nidorina (Highness, 20, average), Cleffa (Cupid, 31, average), Chingling (Morgana, 32, small)

[attr="class","shea"] While Sid took care of most of the Swirlix, Shea had their own battles to fight. They weren't sure just how strong the opponents might be, so they figured it was better safe than sorry, right? The Jigglypuff jumped in to Pound Knightly, but it uh... did not... do... anything, actually. Good job, Normal-type. Meanwhile, the Brave Swirlix used Fairy Wind on Prince, but the fellow Fairy hardly minded too much.
"Prince, Sweet Kiss! Queenie, Powder Snow! Knightly, Slash!" The sword cut the Jigglypuff something fierce, while Queenie chilled the Swirlix and Prince floated in to gently peck it, causing the Swirlix to become flustered and confused. The Jigglypuff retaliated by Double Slapping, which... still... did... nothing. Shea couldn't help but snort lightly at his futile efforts, and suspected he only had Normal damaging moves or else was REALLY ditzy. Maybe both. The Swirlix used another Fairy Wind, this time on Queenie.
Knightly Slashed the Jigglypuff once more, and had him staggering. Seeing an opening, Shea dug out an empty Pokeball and tossed that way. The Swirlix was damaged by Prince's Draining Kiss next, and Shea decided to try to catch him as well, tossing another ball.
As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Sid took a brief breath in assurance. Ok, ok. That was good. This was good. Highness seemed to perk up a little more with confidence now. Mothra gave a soft cry of assurance to her, compelling Sid to as well. “Good work, Highness!” Now hopefully the other four or— three, with Shea capturing one— would just leave or something.
Unfortunately, they did not. Fortunately, they were still confused via Cupid and justs ort of bumped into one another and hit each other this round. Sid winced not entirely sure if they were for or against them for a short second. “Highness, I believe in you! Mothra! Back her up as much as you can!” Mothra once again fluttered about giving Highness a helping hand so that her Poison Sting would be more effective than not. In the spirit of baby wisdom, Cupid used Charm to Encore to get them trapped in a Cotton Spore and Armoatherapy loop as well, sparing Highness and Mothra some extra damage.
After taking a few more direct hits however, the rest of the Swirlix cohort got the message and finally fled. In a brief high moment, Highness almost went after them only to hear Sid’s concerned voice. “Highness wait! Calm down, let’s check you over…” they called. She turned back to them and hesitated before coming back to them. Sid exhaled softly and bent down to check over her. Mostly, she looked ok. Ok, that was good. “Thank you for the help, Highness…” they smiled softly. She smiled back a bit shyly.
[attr="class","shea"] As the Swirlix went running off, Shea breathed out a sigh of relief. "Phew! I didn't expect this incense to work nearly that well, huh?" They laughed lightly. It was funny now that it was over, but that could've been a lot worse.
Sid checked over their Nidorina, which made Shea realize they ought to do the same. "Ah, Queenie, Prince, Knightly, c'mere and let's get you checked out, too." The Spritzee and Honedge quickly floated over, while the big Snom began slowly inching her way closer. Shea felt Prince's little wings and looked him over before deciding he was good, and took a moment to scritch beneath his feathers. "Good boy. And Knightly?" Prince moved out of the way to let Knightly line up in front of Shea. Meanwhile, Queenie kept trucking along toward them.
Shea carefully ran their fingers along the flat of Knightly's blade, then felt the handle carefully without fully grabbing it. He seemed good, and his glassy eye was shining bright as ever, so Shea smiled and nodded. "All good." They then looked to Queenie, who had just passed the halfway point in squirming her way over.
Deciding not to wait, Shea closed the distance between them in about three steps and picked her up, checking over her shell before petting her 'chin'. "Good girl." He set her back down and looked to Sid and their Nidorina.
"So, her name's Highness, huh? I gotta say you have some excellent naming sense, hehe."

“…. Let’s hope it doesn’t attract Zacian next,” Sid chuckled softly back to Shea. They could handle some Swirlix with enough help, but a legendary Pokemon was on a whole nother plane of existence. But it would be so cool…. like a real life RPG moment meeting a legendary and saving the world or something. Heh, I wish… But they didn’t wish too hard because that would be silly.
After checking her over, Sid gently pat Highness. She trembled just a bit, perhaps from the rush of battle zeal turning to nerves, but slowly that too subsided. Sid smiled softly. “If you need to rest, just let me know, ok?” they asked. She hesitated but nodded. Right, ok. Their eyes raised to Shea as they came over. “When I first met her, her radiance drew my eyes and my heart to her. I knew then that she had to be a queen of some sort,” they answered with such straightforward honesty that Highness blushed in response. Raising a small claw up, she pushed it against their arm gently back. Sid laughed. “Looks like she’s alright though and—“ Their eyes raised up and towards… Mothra??
Mothra, meanwhile, floated about sniffing all the scents of what had been left of the cotton candy Pokemon. They smelled so tasty! Maybe he could find some flowers or something that were equally as tasty! Sniff sniff sniff. Finding a particularly tasty looking flower, he nibbled it gingerly. Hm, not nearly as sweet or cold as he was hoping. He spit it out and tried another… and another…
“What are you doing, Moth?” Sid called. Mothra straightened and turned about coated in the remains of some flowers now. A puff of air escaped from Sid, and a small shake of head was given. “Do you want to ride on my shoulders for a while, Highness? Or would you w—“ Sid found their arms full of Nidorina before they finished the statement, the actions evident in what she wanted.
[attr="class","shea"] Shea giggled at the suggestion of Zacian, almost a little surprised Sid knew that legend. Shea only did because they were such a big fairy nerd, but it spoke well of Sid that they did too!
And then...? Oh? Oh. Oh wow! Highness wasn't the only one blushing at Sid's sudden sincerity and poeticism, though Shea's was probably lighter than hers. "That's awesome," they said brightly.
They laughed lightly at Mothra's shenanigans, petting their own little Snom and imagining how she'd be as a Frosmoth someday. Probably much smaller huh? And then an even giddier laugh escaped them as the Nidorina climbed up her trainer. "Good job," Shea teased. It was actually really sweet that they were willing to carry her though.
As Mothra nibbled at various flowers, a loud squeaky cry was heard, and one of the flowers ripped itself away from the Frosmoth indignantly. "Huh?" Oh, no, it hadn't ripped itself away, it had been pulled by a Flababe! "Oh look, aww!!!" But even as Shea gushed, the Flabebe let out another cry and two more comrades appeared.
"Oh, oh!" cried Shea. "Sid don't let Mothra eat their flowers! Also I wanna catch one! Preferably the white one!" they announced. "That cool with you?"
