Not long after his appointment with Professor Holly, and obtaining a few friend via a very kindly man who wanted to find a new home for his very cute, but very prone to poor decisions, Gossifleur (he named her Marigold, which was probably twenty times better than Buoy, but hey! Buoy wasn't complaining! Or, couldn't complain! ... That didn't matter,) Erin decided it was time to get to exploring. To seeing the world. To getting out there, making friends, and just generally living! He'd been wanting to for so long, that as he stood upon the threshold of what, truly, tantamounted to a new life, he felt a little anxious.[break][break]
Staring out at the Route, he looks down to Buoy, who's staring with those beady, but somehow all knowing and soul-seeking eyes of his right back, he asks, "Think I should just get on with it? Should I battle? Do you wanna battle?"[break][break]
Buoy continues to stare, because he is but a simple Pokemon and cannot talk back.[break][break]
"I kinda wanna battle, like, if we come across someone. Isn't that counter intuitive to my desire to be a nurse? Is it rude of me to beat the snot out of someone, and then offer to heal them right after? Or is that, like, par for the course? I mean, it seems fair, right? Battle with someone, then fix their Pokemon up, after I totally decimate them-- man, I'm starting to sound like a liar on my applications--"[break][break]
Buoy starts walking (plap, plap, plap,) without him, and after a second, Erin seems to recognize this, jumping briefly and skittering after. "Hey, wait up!"

Apparently, his mention of kinda wanting a battle goes answered by the fates, as not long after he and Buoy go meandering up the lane, a young girl singles Erin out with the point of a well manicured finger. "Hey, you! Let's battle!" At first, he's a little thrown off, but he's pretty quick to answer, though he first makes a note that, "I like your outfit."[break][break]
Because that's what you say when someone challenges you to a fight, idiot. Immediately, he follows up with, "B-But, uh, sure! I mean, it's my first ever battle--"[break][break]
"It's your FIRST?" She sounds enthused, like she's just secured her victory in words alone; it makes Erin flush, hunching his shoulders awkwardly. "W-Well, yeah, it is, but I mean, I've watched lots of TV, and..." Before he can say any more, she's tossed her first Pokemon out - an Azurill. Buoy points! That him, but baby! Erin would agree if not for the fact that it was time for a fight.[break][break]
Rather than have them fight each other in a low-damage match-up, Erin quickly tosses out Marigold, the little Gossifleur chirping pleasantly as she's revealed to the open air. "Mari, use Leafage!" Glad he remembered the girl's moves after they were hastily given to him by her previous owner, Marigold summons a flurry of sharp leaves that fly across the distance between her and the Azurill before it can even fight back, sending it staggering, and then flopping forward onto the dirt. Must've been a critical hit![break][break]
Gasping faintly, Erin didn't think he was going to do so good... and neither did the trainer, who huffs and tosses out her next Pokemon, a shuppet. Immediately she calls for Night Shade, a move which makes Marigold see something that, really, Erin cannot - but it spooks her enough that she floats behind her new trainer's legs, though he's quick to try and usher her back out, ("It's okay, baby, you can do it! C'mon...")[break][break]
"Use sing!" He then says, and though she seems nervous, she's quick to put the Pokemon to sleep - before Erin returns her to her ball. Buoy, who'd been standing by patiently, waddles forward at Erin's behest. "Water Gun!" Erin orders, a bit more confidently now that things had been going his way. A steady jet-stream slams into the Shuppet as it floats, asleep, where it was, while its Trainer seems frantically yelling at it to awaken it. But unfortunately, it doesn't, and with another slam of water afterward, the Shuppet slowly sinks to the floor, unconscious.[break][break]
"I thought this was your first!" She said, moving forward to scoop up her Pokemon.[break][break]

Not long after he finishes the fight against that trainer (who, he continues to think about, because wow, was she pretty, huh?) does he come across a fight between two Pokemon, startling both he and Buoy as they stare at it. The Bouffalont seems agitated, pawing at the earth with one hoof - but a Duskull was a pretty hard match to beat for a Normal type. Kneeling down to check on Buoy before they did anything, Erin just barely hears the Bouffalont snort and charge forward... though it phases through the Duskull, because of course it does. [break][break]
With a loud crunch does the bull of a Pokemon smash into the nearby tree, making Erin feel surprisingly guilty, even if it isn't his Pokemon to feel guilty about. Rummaging through his pockets, he's quick to find one of the Pokeballs given to him by Professor Holly not so long ago.[break][break]
Though... he should take care of that Duskull first, right? Quickly sending Marigold out, he points toward the agitated bull, "Use Sing, Mari!" And so she does; the Pokemon, so frustrated, seems to grow sluggish suddenly, collapsing onto the earth with a heavy sigh. Erin turns his attention, then, to the Duskull. "Alright, Marigold, use, uh..." She seems uncertain, though, as that Duskull seems to leer at her... but Erin's quick to finish, "Use leafage!" In an instant, she summons a flurry of sharp leaves, sending them flying into the Pokemon's body. Making a low, kind of terrifying groaning noise, the Duskull retaliates with Astonish; it flies forward as though it were going to strike her, but barely stops in time, almost making Mari flinch. Almost.[break][break]
Though she seems scared, she doesn't let that stop her, and without being asked, even, she summons another flurry of leaves. This one, at such close range, hurts the Duskull terribly - enough that it groans and moans, deciding then to flee. This leaves Erin to focus on the Bouffalont, who looks exhausted, and injured - reaching for that Pokeball again, he gently taps it against the sleeping beast's snout, to attempt a capture.[break][break]

Watching the ball, Erin finds himself awfully relieved as it clicks shut completely, in that oh-so telling way that said he'd captured it. While he wasn't sure if a Bouffalant was really his type, but he knew he could at least care for her once he'd made it through his route - she was safe in her ball for now, and that's what mattered. Carefully putting the Pokeball away in his pouch, the boy decides to continue on slowly, carefully, in case that Duskull came back with friends.[break][break]
Buoy, however, seems rather at least with the moment, unbothered by all of it (perhaps because he wasn't the one that had been battling, but instead Marigold,) plopping his little feet along at a languid pace that said he wasn't really afraid! Of anything! Erin keeps sure to stay on pace with the little Pokemon, surprised its fat little body could generate such speed.[break][break]
As he walks along, he pulls his phone out and browses Chatter, because as any ever vigilant trainer ought to, he's got memes to look through and share to his own page.[break][break]
"Man, I wish Pokemon understood memes. Or, at least... I wish we could, like, talk about memes. Wouldn't that be cool? I think that'd be pretty cool."[break][break]
Erin can't tell, but he swears that Buoy starts walking faster.[break][break]
Rookidee truly believes she's a dashing knight, chivalrous, and always there to protect other mons, however she's awfully frail and often will attempt to go after other mons who pose a threat who are much, much bigger than her.
This tiny girl is covered in cuts and her beak is slightly crooked due to lost fights, however she wears her scars with pride! She's a knight, and a little injury is just that, an injury!
Rookidee will always attack any mon who attacks her trainer or their party when out of her ball, assuming they pose a threat.
If it's wished for her to understand her size and that large mons could pose a serious threat, [1 training thread with at least 6 posts] is required to help her learn how to be a proper knight, and that it's okay not to fight every fight!

Shortly through their onward march, with Marill languidly, but so very bravely, leading the way, does a flash of wings zoom across the trail one way - and then the other. The sound of feathers jolts Erin, and he looks around anxiously... before that absurdly small Rookidee makes herself known, coming to land right amidst the road with her chest all puffed out like she was terrifying. In reality, she was just plain adorable, and it's clear in the way he kneels down and tries to coo to her.[break][break]
Evidently, this offends the little bird, because she responds with a shrill caw and tries to fly forward, apparently intent on going after Erin with her tiny, adorable, very sharp claws. Luckily, Buoy, the ever reposed and amazing Buoy, gets in the way in time, instinctively responding with a water gun that meets the bird Pokemon's frame, knocking it out of the sky just in time. She, however, seems offended by this as she gets up and shakes water out of her feathers, chirping indignantly, and quickly thereafter zooms forward to start pecking at Buoy - who seems predominantly unphased, as her beak bounces off his blubbery frame. It hurts him, though, Erin can tell as much. [break][break]
The Marill inhales again, splashing the Rookidee with another sharp jet of water gun - followed up by a tackle; before he hits her, she gives a leer that seems to offset his confidence, if only just, but it's no match for the way he slams into her body, sending her tumbling onto her butt on the ground. [break][break]
Erin, pleased to know that Buoy can hold his own in a fight, slowly scrambles up to his feet where he, too, had flopped over in fear of getting some claws to the face. "Goodness, she's feisty, isn't she?" While the girl seems awfully offended (and soaking wet, that her wings seem to struggle getting her off the ground,) Erin can't help but find himself amused. "Cute, isn't it? I think I want her."[break][break]
Reaching into his bag, he finds a ball and tosses it her way, while she throws her mild tantrum at being defeated - hopefully catching her off guard.[break][break]

Once the ball stops moving, Erin lets a short exhale leave him. Thank goodness. Such a feisty bird will probably need some proper training, and while he didn't know if he could give it, he kind of wanted to try? Looking at the green Pokeball in his hand, he rolls it briefly between his palms, wondering his choice in career. No, no. He liked looking after the Pokemon just as much as he did training them, and surely, there wasn't anything wrong with being a trainer on the side? [break][break] Letting his thoughts trail off, he stows the newly captured bird away in his satchel, continuing on his merry way for now. Buoy seems content to do so as well, though he comes over to pat Erin knowingly upon the knee - he knew his trainer was weak, and would continue to look after him. At least, that's the feeling he got from those otherwise unreadable, beady little eyes? [break][break]

Some ways down the road, Buoy stops in his little, mouse-shaped tracks. That bubble tail of his twitches, and he quickly waddles forward to the sight of, what appears to be, a little person on the side of the road -- quickly, it's revealed that no, not a person, just something slightly person shaped. Or, toddler shaped, as it were. Sat on a small tree stump, is a little Riolu with a berry in its little paws, which it turns one way, then the other, before biting down into it.[break][break]
Erin comes to realize what it is and lets out a tiny gasp - Riolu were so cute! - and it's enough to startle her, that berry getting tossed away in suddenly surprise as it hops up, staring at the two onlookers with, at first, surprise, and then a little embarrassment. Hopping off the stump, she jumps down and hides behind it, her little ears flopping to the side as she peers from behind it at the pair. Buoy seems intent on wandering up, but Erin shushes him, prompting him to stop and stare almost indignantly...[break][break]
But Erin's placating hands keep him from moving any further. Erin himself starts to move forward a few feet, coming to sit upon the side of the road quietly, cross-legged, reaching out to pick that berry out of the grass and extending it towards the little girl. "Hey, here? You were hungry, right?"[break][break]
While he'd just been in the mood for battling, it's the furthest thing from his mind here. She was so small, and so cute, and she looked so shy as she came sidling around the tree stump, one paw still stuck to the bark for 'support' and the other slowly reaching out to take the berry from his open palm. As she starts to chew on it, Erin smiles, moving his hand up just as carefully so he might smooth it against her crown. "What a sweet girl you are," he notes, as she almost shies away, but seems to enjoy the touch at first, "Do you wanna be friends?" This pleases him, to be sure. Reaching into his pocket, he retrieves one of his Pokeballs, gently tapping it against her.[break][break]

When the ball comes to a stop in his hand, Erin finds himself mighty surprised that it worked. Never having caught a Pokemon on a sort of comforting basis alone, or befriending as it were, he simply stares at the ball for a few moments before making a pleased noise and pulling himself up and off the ground. Leaning over to dust his knees of dirt and grass, he thinks to let the little thing out of its Pokeball so it might eat another berry or some such, but he hadn't a clue to her health... and so, it's probably better he just give her an examination once he got to a Pokecenter.[break][break]
"What's a good name for a Riolu?" Erin questions, putting the ball away into his satchel and looking to Buoy expectantly, as if the Pokemon could speak to him in return. When no answer is given, because Pokemon are Pokemon and certainly not humans, Erin resumes talking to himself, or to Buoy, but mostly to himself.[break][break]
"R... Rey? No, that's..." Humming, he trails languidly along the road. "Lou? L... Lulu? I like Lulu." [break][break]
Buoy stops and turns to look at him, squinting. Erin feels vaguely judged? After a moment of unsettling him, the Marill turns back around and starts waddling forth once more.[break][break]

While on his walk, Erin allows himself to look down at his cellphone, well having moved past heckling his poor companion, Buoy. Sure, he didn't think Buoy hated him - because he probably wouldn't have stopped that Rookidee earlier if he did, but... well, the Marill was clearly a rather independent figure. Imposing, even if he was like, barely past his knee. Finding a content rhythm in the little Pokemon's footsteps, he finds himself distracted by the fact that, suddenly, they come to a stop.[break][break]
Looking up from his phone, Buoy's tail is twitching as he watches an Elekid go wandering across the road. It seems that he's playing the defensive - as he probably should, considering the yellow Pokemon is electric type - and maybe he doesn't really want to fight. When the Elekid notices them, it stops in its tracks in the middle of the road and stares... and it's a bit like an Orreish standoff, where they both seem at odds with one another.[break][break]
Erin watches, because he doesn't want to fight, but will if it seems like the Elekid is aggressive... but in the end, it just points at its eyes with one of its little claws, and points back at Buoy - before walking away. Buoy seems taken aback, and almost ready to chase after it, but ultimately seems to think the better of it.[break][break]
Waving a little paw in its direction, he walks on, and so, too, does Erin.[break][break]

As they walk on, it's a sudden thing; Buoy becomes interested in something, with a sneaky, surprising silence. While Erin stares at his phone for a while, Buoy successfully meanders off and out of view, in search of something apparently shiny, a faint glint he'd caught in the bushes that his Trainer was simply not smart enough to see. Or, something like that. Either way, the boy isn't tipped off of his Pokemon's disappearance until the sound of several Pidgeys being surprised out of a bush has him covering his face for fear of stray claws (really? AGAIN?) and he notices, wow, he's all alone.[break][break]
"Buoy?" He calls out.[break][break]
No answer.[break][break]
"Buuuooyyyy???" Erin makes his way over to the brush, leaning over curiously... in time for Buoy to shove the two Pokeballs out of the bush first, smacking Erin on either of his cheeks as the little Marill holds them out. Against his face. For whatever reason. After the initial shock of being punched in the cheek by a ball holding two smaller balls wears off, Erin leans back to examine the Pokemon's find, grinning happily at him as he does. "Hey, thanks!"[break][break]
Reaching out, he pats the Pokemon atop the head (questionable as to whether or not he likes it,) and they get back on the move.[break][break]
