So far, his travels hadn't been bad, though he had been a lot less focused on exploring and more focused on getting to his destination. Where was that? Ivy Town, and the residence of his older sister Juni. He hadn't exactly told her he was coming, hoping it would be a surprise, that and he knew she was likely busy with something.
Which is why he had gone right to the school, thinking it was more likely that she would be there rather than at home. She would also be less likely to get mad at him for harassing her at a public place. Sai was already smirking at the thought. "There is the potential for her to get so pissed at me Kushina." Sai had his hand lifted, a couple fingers in the fluff of the Fletchling's chest as he affectionately scratched at her chest. She tweeted and chirped, head lifting as his fingers neared her neck. "Still can't wait to see her though, and she'll be happy to meet you, and Seri and Misha too."
And that was when he ran into a problem. As this was a 'proper academic institution' and they wouldn't allow his sweet Kushina be out of her ball. Said grumbled and groaned, reluctantly returning her back to her ball. How was Sai supposed to be prepared if they wouldn't let him have his Pokemon out? A 'brilliant' idea came to mind, and he hurried off to the bathrooms.
"Alright Kushina." Sai held a finger to his lips as he lifted his hat. "If this is going to work, you'll need to be quiet okay?" And that was how the young man ended up with a Fletchling on his head and hidden by his brimmed hat.
Simon's walk was relaxed, hands tucked into his pockets as he followed the signs to the lecture halls. If Juni would be anywhere, it would make the most sense for her to be there. So he walked down the halls, looking at the schedules beside each door of who would be talking and when. His grin turned wicked as he found Juni's name. Wanting to be seen as little as possible Sai walked in through the door at the back of the room, keeping his steps light he sat down in the row at the very back of the room. Hidden in plain sight as it were.
And he had the smugest grin on his face while doing it.
“That being said, collecting samples of the distribution of heat around a volcano is very important due to the presence of Fire type Pokemon and their relatives,” Juni was rattling off words as the chalk she was scratching against the black board got progressively smaller. The fifty or so students in the room were writing furiously desperately trying to keep up. This was not thermodynamics I or II, though, this was Intro to Pokemon Physics II which should have not even come close to veering into the complex calculations that Juni was writing out on the board right then.
“Technically, we can calculate them individually using Glacishov’s estimations, but it’s actually better to use raw data collected across several different spots and force it to converge into a model that gives a better fit,” she went on writing those equations anyways. It was only then that she paused, and for a moment the room seemed to breathe. “Any questions?” Juni turned back to stare at them all. Adjusting her glasses, she didn’t even register the presence of Simon right then. He was but a face in the crowd that she didn’t bother knowing individually yet.
“Ah yes?” she pointed out the hand of a shaky looking student who very briefly looked around before standing and speaking.
“Dr. Savage is… is this going to be on the midterm?” the girl squeaked.
The class held their breath. Juni blinked and looked back at the black board and then back at the students again. Oh. “Maybe as a bonus question,” Juni answered back carefully. The entire class sighed in relief in unison. “Any other questions?” Juni asked looking around again. “Ah you there in the back, did I see your hand raise?”

As to be expected, there was a bunch of big words that Simon didn't understand. Though there was a bunch he did understand, and he had a vague idea of just what Juni was supposed to be teaching, versus what she actually was at that moment. "Fire type Pokemon will be the first to know when a volcano is nearing eruption. The increase in volcanic activity changes the distribution of heat, meaning they'll suddenly be flocking to different areas." Simon murmured to the handful of students nearby, as there was definitely a handful. Damn, how big was this class? He tilted his head, silently counting the number of occupied seats. He whistled lowly, a responding chirp from his hat.
His amber eyes widened, a hand shooting up to hold his hat on his head. Which of course meant his hand was technically raised. His eyes remained wide, what was he getting called on for? Oh, questions. Simon smirked before standing up, just like the girl had before.
"Yes, yes it did Dr Savage." Sai stood, a cocky smile on his face as he swept a hand over the brim of his hat. "Theoretically, if a dozen or so Avalugg were to find themselves in an active volcano, would they freeze it, or would they melt?" He asked. Of course he was nonchalant, which results in a good portion of the class snickering. Though some were also horrified that he'd say such a thing.
Though, he was now the center of attention. Maybe Juni would finally notice him. He was actually counting on it.
As Simon stood up, Juni had a faint inclination of who it was (in her defense, her vision had been going downhill for years), but it was only when he opened his mouth that she knew for certain just who it was. Many students had turned to look at the person asking the question, but a particularly tired one at the front who had just resolved to looking forward the entire time would see the full spectacle of creases forming on Juni’s features. She was struggling…. with something, though not even Juni was sure of with what, exactly. Her hand reached up and adjusted her glasses.
“That would depend on the staging of the volcano, if it was close to erupting or not, and how deep its magma lines run—“ A pause. “Simon, I don’t remember you signing up for Intro to Physics II,” she stated before dropping her gaze to look down at her watch. “That will be all for today, class. I expect chapters 5 read and practice problems 7 finished by midnight." A groan reverberated through the classroom as students started to get up and head about their day. Juni should have started organizing her belongings and gotten ready to go as well— but instead here she was heading up the rows towards her little brother.

Uh oh, that was a bit of a look he was getting now wasn't it? So, maybe he shouldn't have said that. Hindsight was a pain, but it was also funny though wasn't it? Alright, to him it was funny, and Sai was still smirking. Oh, she was looking a little grumpy.
And of course, leave it to Juni to actually come up with an answer too, earning a few chuckles from him. And there was the calling out that he was expecting.
"Duh. You'd be the first to know if I had." He piped up, hearing a few chuckles around him at the remark. Then there was the wave of sound that was everyone groaning at their homework assignment. Sounded like a fair bit of work, but also sounded to be expected with class work. More so coming from Juni.
But everyone was gathering their things and leaving, but Juni wasn't doing the same? He winced, not totally sure what he expected of his sister as she walked purposefully up to him. She still held that air of authority, rivaling Professor Holly's in sheer intimidation potential.
"Hey sis, long time no see. Still as passionate about your work I see." Sai chuckled, hand lifting his hat slightly to let Kushina have a breath of fresh air, the silhouette of her peek peering out from under his hat.
Coming up to Simon, Juni folded her arms in front of herself and leaned on one leg a little more than the other. “Just dropping in out of nowhere, Si?” she asked frowning a little before pausing to look at his hat as it… did something weird. Ugh, that or her eyes were just not doing well. Whatever. Her eyes dropped back down to his.
….And she realized then that she hadn’t really made much attempt to talk to him recently, so him coming in out of nowhere shouldn’t have been surprising or …. Uh…..it should have even been kind of endearing, huh?
Probably.
A softer sigh escaped from Juni, and a small smile came to her features. “It’s… good to see you,” she went on a bit slower than before. "Next time..... at least tell me you're in the area first."
Post by Simon "Sai" Savage on Mar 6, 2020 5:58:03 GMT
The smirk on his face, the glimmer in his eyes remained playful. The intimidation had passed now, just a brief thing as the unknown reaction of his sister became known. Yes, he had totally been expecting a smack of some sort, though that was likely due to the presence of the students still here. Now if it was behind a closed door, there was the possibility of Juni letting him have it. "Well, I had to come from somewhere," He teased, not able to help himself (he totally could, just chose not to the brat). "But that was the idea."
And seeing her look up he quickly tilted his hat forward now. It was hard for him to know just watch exactly the bird was doing, but he felt her feet puttering around his head in a circle before the weight settled closer to the back of his head. There were a few students passing behind him, and he could feel the weight of their looks, but he didn't really care what they saw.
"Well I hope so! I moved regions to see you and Adian. I sure hope at least one of you is happy to see me." He chided, shoulders shrugging and voice light. "And lose the element of surprise?" Sai asked, giving his tone a bit of a whine, though he facial expression gave away just how much he meant it as a joke. Though he still closed his eyes as if actually contemplating the notion. Then one eye opened. "fine, but just for you sis."
Then his expression fell a little, less playful and more serious as he gave her a good look over. "How have you been doing? You don't look too terrible, been taking care of yourself?"
…..Pffff. Juni deadpanned at Simon’s words. She was almost tempted to ask where he had come from but decided against it. She was kind of unfortunately aware of just how detached she’d been while working these past few months, and drawing attention to that immediately was…. not gonna be great.
As Simon went on, though, a pang of guilt hit Juni. “Oh…. Really…” she didn’t really ask it as a question, sort of just… an assessment or realization even. She… she hadn’t seen Adian in a while even though she knew he was Around™. As he agreed to at least let her know next time, she sighed a bit softly and reached up to adjust her glasses. “Good.”
The question had her straightening awkwardly. “Ah, yeah I’m fine,” she answered briefly catching a sideways glance at one of the remaining students. The latter quickly waved and started out the door. Juni’s eyes flicked back to Simon again. “Have you found a place to stay yet?” she asked. “I know Adian is traveling….” She couldn’t actually remember if he had an apartment anywhere or not, though.

Awe, she didn't walk right into the joke. Oh well, he didn't exactly have a response planned out so it wasn't that much of a lose. Though of course after thinking about it he had a good line. 'I thought you majored in Thermodynamics, not philosophy?'. Yeah! That was a good one.
But seeing her expression, hearing the tone behind her words, he winced visibly. "Well, there was more than that. But I missed you guys and wanted to know just what drew you guys here." He amended, hoping to ease some of the guilt he thought she was feeling. How uncool of him, more so because he hadn't actually meant any harm behind the words. That made it sting all the more.
She adjusted her glasses, he adjusted his hat, and they were quiet. Of course she actually wanted to know when he was around, it ruined the element of surprise which meant he couldn't just drop in. Though that didn't mean he still couldn't surprise her if he found her just out and about. Not like he had to tell her everything he did.
Why did she look so awkward and stiff? Was he not allowed to care? His head tilted, catching a glance as the final student left. Ah, that would probably be why. It was professional to keep work and home life separate. The students didn't need to know that her brother had concerns about her taking care of herself. Though Simon didn't doubt her, just worried that it was a possibility. And there came a shock of panic to his system.
Simon hadn't asked first after all, and had used Juni's address as his place of residence. Not that he had planned to barge in!
"Uh, yeah.... About that." He winced, rubbing his hand through the hairs at the back of his neck. "I haven't been having much luck. People want proof of a job before renting out a place, and an email from the Ranger Union wasn't enough so I'm stuck on that front until I get my first pay stub." His smile was tense and lopsided. "And they wanted and address for that, so I sorta panicked and gave them your's. Assuming you still live at the same place you told me about."
About that….? Juni’s brow raised as Simon started speaking. She assumed he was about to say something like ‘I was wondering if I could crash at your place’ or maybe even ‘I was just sort of assuming you’d let me crash at your place’ or the much less likely ‘I’m actually just going to travel and live on my own, yeah’. As Sai went on, Juni assumed it was going to be one of the prior to— and then he was done, and she was left blinking.
“You gave…. The Ranger’s Union…. My address?” Yes, yes Juni did still live at the address she had mentioned in her Christmas text message out to the rest of the family. And yes Simon was about to get so much shit for it. But. Actually. It…. Was good to have a home base, a mailing address, for most places, anyways.
And rather than be mad, Juni turned devious. A particular look flashed in her red eyes before a hand reached up and adjusted her glasses again. “Well….. you’ll have to pay first month’s rent then of three hundred pen, deducted out of whenever you first paycheck is.” Was she really about to shake down her baby brother for help on rent? Eh. Not like the Rangers didn’t pay decently and not like other places wouldn’t actually charge a lot more for rent in any capacity.
Post by Simon "Sai" Savage on Mar 9, 2020 20:17:44 GMT
Yeah, what he had said came to a shock to him too. He had just sort of panicked when an address was required and he had put Juni's, the only Arciel address he knew, without any thought. He had debated just what to do about it on the way here. So he had of course expected to come face to face with the problem sooner rather than later.
"Uh, yeah? Sorry..." Simon was embarrassed, heat flooding his cheeks and ears. Just please don't get too mad at him!
Her expression turned, and Sai totally expected the chewing out of his life. But, that isn't what he got. Eyes focused on Juni intently before he couldn't help it. He burst out into delighted laughter, arms wrapping around his chest as if that would somehow stop the laughter. Pro tip, it didn't help.
Standing straight again, he chuckled one last time. "Damn, I missed this." Simon wheezed as he took in a deep inhale. "300, occasional use of your couch, wifi access, and you keep an eye on any mail for me and text me asap whenever I get something. I'll pitch in extra if I go over on groceries." He held out his hand. "Deal?"
Pffff….. The sudden laughter out of Sai was enough to have Juni rolling her eyes. “What??” What exactly was he laughing about? What was so— Juni frowned a little, and her cheeks puffed ever so irritably. As he mentioned missing this, though, she let her features fall to something softly confused and vaguely irritated.
The proposition that followed had her softening just a little. She supposed it was funny to be even….. No, she was still confused. Meh…. She clasped his hand without a second thought. “Deal, just be mindful of my roommate.” She was pretty sure she’d mentioned Derby a couple times now in stray text messages and whatever else, but it never hurt to remind him. “She’s a mechanical engineer, so don’t take her lightly.”
Hm … actually, she wondered if he might be good around Skye, Derby’s little brother than occasionally came over as well. No… He’d probably teach him horrible little brother things. Horrible, horrible little brother things.

Now it was pretty clear Juni didn't get it as she had one of those looks. Lips turned into a frown, cheeks puffed out just slightly with the slightest narrowing of her eyes. But what he meant was the interaction, harassing and getting harassed himself, the bickering, the playful banter. That is what he missed. Maybe one day Juni would understand, but it wasn't he felt had to be explained quite yet.
And, there was a big thing he had forgotten. "Oh shit. I forgot about that." He muttered, cheeks flushing as he recalled that yes Juni had a roommate, and yes she was also a girl. Though, if she got along with Juni, then maybe things wouldn't be so bad? "Do ya think she'll be okay with it too?" Simon asked anyway, just to be certain as he looked back towards the board.
"Also, shouldn't we get your stuff and get going before the next teacher gets here?" That and Simon needed to let his bird out as she was definitely pacing around in the little space the hate provided.
Juni smirked just a little at Simon. His words and the color on his cheeks were almost enough to redeem the whole thing. A low hum escaped from her at the question, though. “I’m pretty sure she’ll be fine with it,” she answered. “She’s got a little brother too.” Not that Skye lived with them or anything, but it wasn’t like Si would be either from the sounds of it.
“Oh shit—“ At the reminder of her belongings, Juni immediately turned around. “Yeah…. Pretty sure it’s Kent…” She checked her watch before starting down the steps again to grab her books and other items off the podium again. The last thing she needed was to forget stuff here and then wonder where it was thereafter. Once she had reclaimed her items, Juni started up the steps again. “I’m head back to the house now if you want to come take a look….” she offered abet awkwardly.

Okay, his memory was definitely a little foggy in that area. Though he could probably pull out his phone and look through the message history that he still had saved with Juni. But, he also didn't want to be rude again and felt like he may have already been pushing his luck. After all, Simon had quite literally showed up out of the blue, interrupted her class and had more or less already laid claim to her couch. "Sounds good, I'll try not to bother you ladies or impose too much or anything like that.: Sai gave a little lopsided grin. And now Juni was off to gather her things.
Which gave Simon a brief window to lift his hat mostly off his head to reveal the Fletching who oh so grumpily swiftly delivered a peck to her trainer's head. "Ow, shit Kushina! You're the one who didn't want to stay in your ball anymore than I wanted to keep you in there! It's hat or inside the jacket!" He hissed lowly and the smaller bird was tucked quickly into his jacket just as Juni turned around to head back up to him.
"Sure! Sounds like a good idea to me! It'll be interesting to actually get to see where you live." He was about to turn on his heel when he motioned to her things. "Want a hand with those?" He offered kindly. Even if she didn't, he still made sure to open the door for her on the way out.
And once they were outside again he didn't dare keep Kushina hidden anymore. So with a cry of "Freedom!" he threw open his jacket to let the bird burst forth in a dramatic display. "Meet Kushina. And," Simon started, grabbing another pokeball that was tapped oh so gently to let his other bird come forth. The green Pidove hovering in front of him and looking confused. "This is Misha." Simon chuckled, the birds coming and landing on his shoulders to stretch their wings as they chirped and cooed a greeting to Juni.
Juni’s smile became a little more genuine again as Simon spoke. “Ah nah, I’m good,” she answered adjusting the books, spirals, and whatever else she had brought making sure that she could, in fact, still carry it. She’d take the opportunity as it presented itself to walk out fi—
“What???” Juni turned just as Simon threw open his jacket. The sudden appearance of the Fletchling and the sudden release of the Pidove earned an incredulous look that quickly melted into a confused one. “You did not—“ But no, she was pretty sure he did. The Fletchling had come from his jacket, not another Pokeball. Reaching up to press fingers to her temple and then adjust her glasses, Juni took a moment to reassess what was there before her again.
….Oh wait. “Are these two your starters?” she ask-registered leaning forward to inspect the Fletchling first and then the Pidove. He was a Ranger, and if she remembered right, they did receive a secondary Pokemon from the union. Still, a green Pidove. How weird. The fact they were both birds was not lost on her, though, and Juni was quickly shifting her books to grab a Pokeball from her purse.
“Pyre, come take a look,” she stated releasing a surprisingly small Blaziken. Pyre stood at a tender four foot and some change. Compared to normal Blaziken that easily stood six foot, he very much didn’t measure up. He would not come close to measuring up to his father, Nova, Juni’s starter who had long since passed on, but he was stockier than some Blaziken tended to be. What he lacked in size, he made up for in density.
Pyre looked from Juni to Simon and, on registering the relation, immediately waved and walked up to him to get a better look at the birds. Hopping up and down, he spoke quickly in Poke-speech asking what it was like to actually fly.
Post by Simon "Sai" Savage on Apr 7, 2020 4:29:48 GMT
Of course he had figured Juni was good by herself. She had always been independent, but it hadn't hurt to offer, so he gave a little shrug and a half smile. Even if she had needed a hand, it was still likely she would have said no. But that was Juni for you, and Simon wouldn't of had her any other way. If she were different, he wouldn't have gotten this reaction from her! And the look on her face was priceless!
"Yeah, I did. She didn't want to go back in her ball. And though she was originally under my hat," Which he lifted off of his head to fluff his hair back into shape. "But she wasn't happy there. So when you were grabbing your things she moved into my jacket. If she was in any actual distress she would have been let out." Simon attempted to smooth over the situation, Kushina chirping her assent while Misha just stared off into space.
"Kushina is, however Misha was a Pokemon I befriended out on Route 1 while there was that swarm in the area. The starter that I received from the Union was actually a female Meowth that I named Seri." Simon explained, both hands reaching up and stroking at the downy feathers on both of the bird's chests.
"Hey Pyre! Look at you, you evolved and grew a little taller. Very impressive! " The redhead cheered, though he also noted that the Blaziken hadn't really grown much, if at all from the last time Simon had seen him.
Misha let out a sudden, loud coo that translated to 'scary'. Though one could guess from her cross eyed gaze that maybe equilibrium wasn't her strongest point. Even Kushina gave the green Pidove a look before shaking her head and answering the fire type with 'it's hard work, but freeing'.
"So which way are we heading?" Simon asked, looking out on the town, squinting as he tried to read some signs to figure out just where they were in relation to Juni's place.
A small puff of air escaped from Juni as Simon explained the bird situation. Still, it wasn’t like there had been any harm actually done, so she’d let it roll off her shoulders for now and focus on the far more interesting piece here.
“Oh yeah?” Leaning in, she examined each Pokemon carefully. “I… didn’t realize there was a swarm out that way…” she blinked and shook off the thought for now. Not like she had time to go running down to Route 1 for no reason most days, anyways. The mention of a cat, though, had her lips quirking a bit. “Sounds like you’re in for some conflicts.” Between birds and cats, anyways.
Pyre preened as big and tall as he could at the acknowledgement. Yes, he was looking much taller on evolution! Thank you for noticing! Even if it wasn’t exactly true. His attention then refocused on the birds again as he listened to their remarks on flying. Ah, he wished he had wings of his own. He had legs, and surely they were strong and powerful! He could jump buildings with ease! But it wasn’t the same…. Sadly. His attention was forced to shift a little as Juni set some books in his arms. Oh, ok then.
“Just out that way, down main street two blocks and off at that corner, it’s on the right after that,” Juni directed Simon briefly as they had started walking. She hadn’t wanted to be too far from the center of town considering that made it both easier to get to work and easier to get to good food and who knew what else. “Have you look around Ivy much?” she asked right after.
Post by Simon "Sai" Savage on Apr 21, 2020 19:57:33 GMT
The Fletching stared forward, not even flinching under the researcher's scrutinizing gaze. Misha on the other hand almost cowered, even if there was no ill intention Misha was intimidated. Juni was just so serious compared to the more playful nature that Simon had shown her so far. But a hand was stroking her wing, settling her feathers a little. Her cross eyed green eyes blinked rapidly before she finally settled down once Juni's gaze finally left her.
"Yeah, it'll be interesting! Though Seri is a sweet little kitty so far. But I also got a Growlithe egg and an Electrike egg. So it will definitely keep me on my toes and supervising them. Geeze, almost sound like a parent." The young man couldn't help but chuckle.
And then Juni was giving books to Pyre, and Sai raised an eyebrow. Oh, so because he had actually offered to take her things that meant he wasn't good enough? He snorted, shaking his head as Pyre took the books without question anyway. But now he had directions, nodding a bit as he laced his fingers behind his head while still giving his girls room to sit. "I saw a bit. Definitely seems like your kind of town. Already counted three libraries on my way to the university. And there is a lab that revives fossils right? I've heard about that at least. Nice little town though, people seem friendly." Simon smiled, waving as a couple of students walked by.
"But I mostly just opened up the town map app and headed right for the university." Though he was definitely taking some time now to look around. "Nice little place though."
A Growlithe and an Electrike egg too? Oof, that sounded like so much work— granted it was work Simon himself had signed up for by being a trainer so Juni couldn’t exactly absolve him of responsibility. “You better work hard then,” she answered with a small nod.
Starting down the street homeward, Juni listened as Simon spoke. A small smile quirked on her features as he mentioned it being her type of town. “A bit, yeah.” It was busier than Mossdeep but not nearly as busy as Rustoboro could be. The university was large and influential, and as a post-doctoral lecturer there, she had status even if it wasn’t much.
The mention of the fossil lab right after had her pausing before nodding. “Several, actually, but the commercial one where anyone can go in and revive a fossil Pokemon is the most popular,” she explained. “I have a friend who works there if you ever happen to come across a fossil you want to try turning into a Pokemon.” She may not have been able to offer an immediate discount like she had as a university affiliate, but it was always better to have your foot in the door either way.
A soft hum escaped from Juni thereafter. There wasn’t a lot in the ways of excitement during this season even if it was technically an island. She bet during the summer it got more lively, but that would have to wait. “There’s actually another island called Plum that isn’t too far off as well. It has two cities, or a city and a town, I guess,” she went on. “Plum City is Arciel’s capital.” She paused considering what else to say on the matter. "It's a little more lively than here." A little bit.
