After catching the Ursaring, Elise had checked on Stella and then chosen to climb back on and keep flying. Unfortunately, as they graced the skies, dark clouds off of the ocean steadily became apparent, and riding on a metal bird through a storm was not something that Elise was ready to do. She had Stella land before thanking and returning her to the safety of her Pokeball.
Releasing Shadow her Umbreon and Serenity her Sylveon, Elise gave a small gesture as to the sky and then spoke. “I don’t…. wanna be alone when the rain hits. I… hope it’s ok with you guys?” she asked with a small uncertain smile. Luckily for her, Serenity was fine with it and Shadow was far too timid to argue right then. The Sylveon then led forward while the Umbreon stuck closer to her trainer.
Off they went down the trail towards Cherry Town. Waiting for the storm to hit.

As they traversed the island countryside slower now, Elise couldn’t but hum softly both to herself and to Serenity and Shadow. Serenity mimicked the hum even trotted a little lightly. Shadow just listened quietly. This went on for a while but would be broken by a sight before them: a pretty lake whose serene surface seemed to be a glass mirror of the sky above them. Swimming along the surface was a Crawdaunt that seemed… for the most part relaxed.
“Oh…how pretty….” Elise murmured as she approached and then looked around for the shortest route forward. Shadow mumbled a soft ‘bri’ noise and eyeballed the Crawdaunt shakily. Serenity, however, went right up to the water to look down into it—And that was, unfortunately, what set the Crawdaunt off. He happened to look over towards the edge of the water and!!! How dare a Fairy type, one of his natural enemies, come to his pond!
A cry escaped from him as he went darting through the water towards the Sylveon. Elise yelped and backed up with Shadow darting behind her. Serenity looked up from the water just in time to get a face full of rocky powered Ancient Power. Shrieking, she leapt back right after. The Crawdaunt landed back in the water right after and shook his fist irritably. Elise stared bewildered for a moment before looking down at Serenity. “Are you ok??” She wasn’t looking too good, actually. That Crawdaunt had to be super strong! Elise looked back to him.
Crawdaunt were…actually Dark Type weren’t they? Or partially? I bet Eliza would like something like him…. He wasn’t really Elise’s aesthetic but…. but the red was kind of nice actually? M-maybe… t-they could try to battle… together? “Shadow! Serene! We’re… gonna battle it!” she encouraged as best she could. Serenity fidgeted slightly, and Shadow looked at her like she had absolutely lost her mind. “We can do this! Together ok??” Serenity managed to look a little determined, but Shadow was still uneasy.
“Serene! Use Disarming Voice! Shadow use Confuse Ray!” Serenity stepped forward and sparkled with pink light before opening her mouth and releasing a note that reverberated and went crashing towards the Crawdaunt. The latter took the damage with arms and threw them out in a Taunt that had Shadow freezing. Rather than use a Confuse Ray, she went bounding forward with an Assurance powered up by Serenity already making an attack.
The Crawdaunt took the Type matched attack, though, and sneered. He wouldn’t go down like that! His shell seemed to sharpen with Water type power before he thrust it hard against the Umbreon in a Razor Shell attack. The latter took the damage and went crashing to the ground. “SHADOW!” Elise squeaked even as the Umbreon staggered to get away from the oncoming Crawdaunt. “Serene!” The Sylveon released another Disarming Voice causing the Crawdaunt to turn back to her. He wouldn’t get another attack out, though, before Elise tossed a Pokeball at him.
As the Pokeball snapped open and dumped its contents of Crawdaunt back out, Elise’s eyes grew large. Both Umbreon and Sylveon took a step back right as the fierce Pokemon bellowed out. He was so strong?? Did they even have a chance??? They had to try, though! R-right? Once more. They could do this. “Shadow, Quick Attack! Serene! Swift!” The Umbreon went barreling towards the Crawdaunt again clashing against him even as he brought his claws up to brace the attack. The Sylveon summoned up some star power and sent it crashing right after.
The Crawdaunt performed a Swords Dance. The clanking of claws together and the scuttling of his body one way and then the next was enough to set everyone on edge again. One hit, and he was going to down either of them. “Serene! Disarming Voice! Shadow, wait and use Assurance!” Elise called. The Sylveon opened her mouth and sang out that Fairy note again that had the Crawdaunt briefly wincing. The Umbreon followed after and crashed right into the Crawdaunt from the other side. He took both attacks well, though.
Elise took a movement to quickly seize a Pokeball again and toss it at the Crawdaunt again.
Poof! That was the Pokeball snapping open again and dumping its crustacean contents back out. The Crawdaunt stood there severely weakened but defiant. Both Serenity the Sylveon and Shadow the Umbreon were panting softly now. Elise shifted uncomfortably. Should they run? That thing was shaking his fists in a— Oh no that was actually a Swords Dance wasn’t it? They should flee. They should get out of there before he did serious damage to them.
But I really want to catch him… As if the struggle of this had made her determination stronger, not weaker, Elise looked out towards the Crawdaunt. She would catch him! “S-sorry guys…. Serenity! Disarming Voice! Shadow! Assurance again!” The Sylveon took in a deep breath before reverberating the noise while the Umbreon stored up as much power as she could muster before leaping forward again to hit the Crawdaunt. Grabbing the ball that had popped open but had not broken, Elise tossd it at the Crawdaunt again.
As the Pokeball dinged in capture, a heavy, shaky sigh escaped from Elise. They did it. They really… they really managed to— “We did it!” Suddenly Elise was yelling and jumping up and down. “We did it! We totally did it, guys!” She squeaked and clapped her hands together over and over.
Shadow and Serenity exchanged tired looks before looking back towards Elise and smiled in tired unison. They’d managed to take down one hell of a challenger! They were both really tired though and could use a— Red eyes grew. Blue eyes grew. A low noise escaped from Shadow. A high noise escaped from Serenity.
Elise settled a little thereafter. “What’s wrong guys?” she asked only to notice they weren’t looking at her but rather beyond her. Standing there in a short yet incredibly dense way, a Nidoking looked ready to attack. And he did— with a Fury Attack. Elise shrieked as she went tripping back having been horn stabbed in the leg.
Shadow was quick to leap forth, concern overriding her timidness. A Quick Attack forced the Nidoking to redirect his attack, but a Thrash from said Nidoking was enough to put the Umbreon on the ground. Serenity offered up a Swift, but the Nidoking formed something Toxic in his mouth and sent it flying towards her.
Scrambling, crying, and bleeding, Elise snatched up Shadow’s form in her arms and quickly whistled to Serenity before turning and running. They had to get away. They had to get away. They had to get away. Please please please please please don’t follow us…..
The sounds of crashing through the underbrush were loud in Elise’s ears. Every step was disorienting as she struggled to get away more than direct herself. Carrying Shadow over her shoulder, all she could do was run. Meanwhile, Serenity did her best to cover throwing out stars and Fairy vibrations as they went. It only slowed the Nidoking some as he went thrashing through the brush after them.
Suddenly Elise found herself falling as the ground below her gave way to sand. They’d made it all the way to the edge of the island, and now she was hitting the rocky sand hard and rolling to keep from squishing Shadow entirely. The sounds of the Nidoking breaking through the brush echoed in her ears— along with another stranger sound.
Elise forced her eyes open and slowly looked around to find… she’d entered a strange circle of Kingler all surrounding her. Had they been in this circle before and she’d just rolled into it, or had they surrounded her? She didn’t know. They made eye contact for all of two seconds before the Kingler in unison turned to see the Nidoking that was throwing up both arms now in aggression. One of the Kingler scuttled forward…. Then a second… then a third. And they all seemed to be shaking their claws at the Nidoking right after. The Nidoking Thrashed forward only to receive a Bubble Beam by one and then two of the Kingler. Attack after attack, they forced the Nidoking back into the brush from whence they came.
Elise was left lying in the sand with Shadow in her arms, Serenity close by her side, and fearful tears in her eyes. “T-thank you for….for helping me……” she breathed. The tiniest of Kingler stepped forward, and Elise froze….. only to slowly relax again as the strange crab began patting her on the head… trying to…. soothe her, perhaps?
The Kingler group was rather nice all things considered. They pat and assured Elise everything was going to be ok for a little while longer before going back to their strange meeting of sorts on the sand. Elise watched them for a little having no idea what they were saying before Shadow was well enough to be returned and Serenity deemed it was time to go. Elise agreed, the weather wasn’t looking to great still.
Wandering back towards the path again, however, Elise caught sight of something in the corner of her eye. “Sere!” she squeaked. The Sylveon yowled before jumping in front of her— but both paused as the creature, a Litwick on the branch, just sort of… faded away on the tree. O-oh. Had they… had they scared it on accident? Elise rubbed her face and then dabbed her eyes. M-m-maybe she was just… a little short today.
That was, at least, until the Litwick appeared right behind her and gave a spooky shriek that had her shrieking again. This time Serene retaliated— jumping forward and Biting the Litwick. That was enough to have the Ghost type tripping back and quickly disappearing…. For good this time. Elise took slow, shaky breaths… her hands clenched on her thundering chest. Ok. Ok, they were…. going to be ok.
Elise took a couple more breaths trying to calm down again. She still jolted, however, as her shadow extended, and a Litwick once again appeared. The Ghost looked …. Sad? Though? And twisted around to hold up a strange jar. “Uh? An apology?” Elise-ask stated before slowly taking it. It smelled delicious… whatever it was. A small, weak smile pulled onto Elise’s face. “T-thank you,” she smiled before starting on again jar in hand. Serenity looked sideways at it and frowned. She didn’t like this but didn’t know why.

Walking down along the path with Serenity at her side, Elise found herself frequently glancing upwards. The sky had darkened completely now, and it was going to rain any moment. They really needed to find shelter somewhere and fast— “Sere do you see anything?” Elise asked. The Sylveon let out a low note. She didn’t see anything yet—
And right then, lightning crackled through the sky. Elise and Serenity jolted in unison. Serenity went so far as to leap into Elise’s arms, and the latter just barely caught her. Two seconds later, they were being drenched with rain. “EEEEKKKKKKK!!!” Elise stumbled as she ran, her eyes flashing about searching for a place to duck under. Serenity raised up her ribbons to try and keep the rain from hitting Elise squarely, but with the rocky motion of both of them moving, it didn’t help.
Scrambling up under a tree, Elise leaned back against the base and took in a slow, deep breath. They’d have to move again soon. Lightning stuck tall trees, but for a second, they could stop. And in that second, Serenity would make a small noise. Elise glanced down at her and then sideways on finding she was pointing a fleshy ribbon at… a Raichu that was slowly peeking out from around the tree.
The Raichu sparked with electricity. He stared quietly, carefully, uncertainly. He was warrying of strangers, especially ones that came barreling in out of nowhere, but he wasn’t one to attack without warning. “H-hi?” Elise ask-smiled. The Raichu quickly ducked away. Never mind, he didn’t want to fight this weirdly cute human girl. “Wait wait! Sorry uh! We won’t hurt you!” Elise squeaked as she set Serenity down and then twisted around the tree to get a better view of her mousy friend. The Raichu paused and stared at her before frowning. “You’re very cute!” Uh??? “I bet you’d get along with Sparkle!” Who?
Elise quickly fished out a Pokeball and tossed it up. As the Morpeko appeared, however, the Raichu felt … a sudden rush of nervousness. Oh no. She was cute. As cute as her strangely cute trainer. The Raichu hopped back. Sparkle blinked and smiled waving a small hand back before looking back towards Elise who smiled. “Kind of like you, huh, Sparkle?” Elise giggled. The Morpeko shrugged and smiled. Sure. She supposed. The Raichu made a low note back. Elise smiled. “I really like electric mice! Would you battle us?” she asked.
The Raichu hesitated looking from the cute girl to the cute girl and back again. Oh no. He…. he supposed…. Hopping down onto all fours, he gave a low ‘chu’ sound. He wouldn’t… hold back! “Sparkle, use Quick Attack too!” And they were off bounding and knocking into each other at high speeds. Occasionally a sparkle of Electricity would charge between them, but though they were roughly equal in the charge department, Sparkle had one advantage therein. “Bite!” The Morpeko chomped down on the Raichu, and the latter yelped in pain from the super effective move.
As the Raichu was weakened, Elise fished out a Great Ball and tossed it forward!

As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Elise smiled. “Great work, Sparkle!” she congratulated the Morpeko was much as she could. For a brief moment, she could forget that she was under a storming sky out on Route 4. Or she wished she could. Another crackle of lightning had her jolting. Serenity was quick to catch and keep her from falling over. Sparkle, meanwhile, looked back confused. She liked this weather! “Hopefully it blows over soon…” Elise muttered more to herself than either of her Pokemon.
