Tell us a little about yourself. How would you describe yourself? Rui bows Kanto-style with her hands folded in front of her. "My name is Rui Sasaki. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm what you might call a channeler from Poplar Town; I use my connection with the spiritual realm to detect and calm any spirits or Pokemon that might be causing trouble. They don't always mean to, by the way. Sometimes, they're just scared, so they lash out." Why are you interested in the class you've chosen? Rui tucks a lock of hair behind her ear and glances off to the side, giving a quiet, nervous laugh. "I suppose I don't look much like a researcher, do I? But..." She looks back at the interviewer, her expression more serious now, and folds her hands in front of her again. "The occult is something that can be studied and learned from, and I fully intend to do so so I can better help others, including the spirits themselves. And perhaps one day... I'll be able to teach others what I've learned so they aren't so afraid of ghosts anymore." Why are you interested in training in Arciel? Why not another region? "I've lived in Poplar Town my whole life. It makes the most sense to train close to home, right? Sure, I wouldn't mind traveling to Kanto one day to see my family's homeland, but it seems like a lot of effort to travel all the way there when Arciel is right here." What do you consider your best attributes? They can be physical, mental, social, or anything else. "Well, I suppose my 'sixth sense' has been a boon for as long as I can remember. I still have a long way to go before I reach my grandmother's level, but still, being able to sense the presence of spirits is very helpful in a place like Poplar Town. My family also taught me to be polite, and that's made it easier to get along with people." What do you consider your worst attributes? Be honest, now! "Um..." Rui's face turns about as red as her hakama. "I've... never been good with technology, for one. My younger sisters tease me about it all the time by calling me Grandma Rui... but they don't mean any harm by it! They're just teasing me, like all sisters do. And, well... some people say I'm a little 'spacy,' like I'm off in another world sometimes. Which, well, I guess I kind of am when I'm focusing on spiritual matters." What was your childhood like? How was school? "I was never the best student, admittedly... ah, but that's not due to a lack of trying or anything. I just got distracted easily because of my powers. I spent a lot of time hunting for ghosts and trying to learn more about the occult when I was a kid. Some of the other kids at school thought it was 'cool' that I could sense spirits; sometimes, they'd even come with me when I went searching for them. Others... Others thought it was weird or frightening, so they avoided me. I'm grateful for the friends I had, but... I wish more people understood the occult." How is your relationship with your family? "Right now, I live with my mother, my grandmother, and my younger sisters, Kasumi and Minato." Her face falls. "My father died during the Ultra Beast attack. He was trying to calm the upset spirits." There's a pause before she continues: "We see death differently in our family. We don't think of him as gone; we think of him as in a different place. Maybe one day, he'll visit us. But still... he was my teacher. My powers come from his side of the family, and it was thanks to him that I was able to harness them. My grandmother is teaching me and my sisters now, and I'm grateful for that, but... I guess it's just not the same without him. And I'm sure Grandmother misses him, too." What do you like to do for fun? "What do I like to do for fun...?" Rui mutters to herself, her finger curled against her chin. She looks back up and clears her throat with a slight blush. "Ah, I'm sorry. I don't get asked that a lot. I enjoy reading, for one. We have a collection of books on occult history, various forms of spirituality, and the like, but I enjoy reading fiction, too. Lately, I've been reading a novel about a detective who helps a ghost solve his own murder. I usually have some music playing to set the mood, but sometimes I just like to close my eyes and listen to calming music for a while. Not everyone sees that as 'fun,' though... Oh, and I recently took up photography. I'm not very good yet, and my sisters have had to help me figure out my phone's camera, but I like taking pictures of nature, especially places where I can feel spirits gathering. Even if you can't see the spirits on camera, there's always something about those areas that makes them... interesting to look at, I guess you could say." What are your feelings on romance? "R-Romance?!" Rui's voice rises to nearly a squeak, and the already-present blush on her face deepens. She covers her mouth with one hand before continuing, trying to control her voice but still clearly flustered: "S-Sorry, I just... I didn't expect that kind of question. Um... I guess... I don't really have a lot of experience in that area? I-I had a boyfriend in school, but we broke up since he was really high energy and I'm... well, not. But other than that, it's... not really something I think about. I've been focusing on improving my knowledge and powers ever since the Ultra Beast incident. It's not that I'm averse to it, it's just... I'm not sure if romance is in the cards for me right now." What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term. Rui takes a deep breath, still reeling a bit from the last question, before answering: "Ultimately, I want to be strong enough to help with any sort of spiritual incident that may arise. But ever since I became a researcher, I've been thinking about ways I can educate people on the occult in a way that makes it less scary, too. I think if people aren't as afraid, they won't get hurt as often. For now, though, I want to focus on honing my spirit sense and learning as much as I can about those spirits." If you could be a Pokemon, what species or typing would you choose and why? "Oh, that's easy: I'd want to be a Ghost-type." Rui seems to have relaxed, and she's smiling as she answers this one. "A lot of Ghost-types are said to be the spirits of the deceased given new form, so they serve as the perfect bridge between our world and the spirit world." What do Pokemon mean to you? "I guess that's similar to my last answer: I have something of an affinity for Ghost-types, and I believe many of them can help me better understand and connect to the spiritual realm. And... well, if some of them are the spirits of the deceased, then I want to do what I can to make their new lives as comfortable as possible." Anything else you'd like to tell us about before you go? For the second time, Rui laughs quietly and nervously. "This might be the most I've talked about myself in years, actually... I'm not really sure what else I could add." With the interview over, Rui stands and bows again. "Thank you very much for your time."

Rui is a half-Kantoian, half-Arcielan woman with long blue-violet hair and eyes of a similar color. She's usually seen with a purple bow in her hair. Her casual outfits are on the modest side, and her favored styles involve simple blouses and skirts that are as long as the weather permits. Her most notable outfit is probably her channeling outfit: a white kosode, a pair of red hakama, white tabi, and black zori with red straps. She wears this outfit for her duties as a shrine maiden and for instances where she expects to be dealing with spirits. Aura Rui's aura flickers like a low flame around the outline of her body. It's predominantly purple with licks of blue and the occasional dark green.
