Clarence was a gift to Rui from her grandmother, who found the Phantump trying to lure children into the forests of Route 13. The name "Clarence" came to her grandmother as a voice on the wind; whether or not it was the Phantump's name before he died (assuming he was once human), he seems to respond to it well. He takes on most situations with an eerie calmness befitting a (supposed) spirit of the deceased. Despite that, he is childlike in his mannerisms; for example, he is a picky eater and prefers to hold Rui's hand while they travel. Clarence is kept in a regular Poké Ball when he's not by Rui's side. | ||
