Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
The Dudes, however, didn't seem to get the memo on this. As they zoomed past the assembled trio, Inari would be unable to help a brief yelp - nearly being knocked off her paws by the eager Dugtrio...! She'd stumble briefly to the side, blinking owlishly, before shaking her head - making a sound like a disgruntled husky - and returning to the search.
Andrew blinked a bit, before chuckling faintly; endeared at The Dudes' almost clueless eagerness, as he scratched the back of his head. Even if they nearly had a traffic collision here, it didn't seem like The Dudes meant any harm; they were just eager to help in the search...! In any case, with the sun being shaded by the trees, he was able to let his hood down for a little bit - the lenses of his glasses dimming, to adjust to the difference in lighting. As a result, he admittedly could only see so much until his lenses finished adjusting - darkened lenses not mixing well with dim environments - but he at least wasn't going to trip up on anything, in the meantime.
And even if he was having trouble making out the details, he didn't need perfect vision to hear Reverb's cry...! Almost immediately, Inari would bark to the others - an indicator to follow her - as she dove into the underbrush, hurrying in the direction of wherever the cry came from; Andrew and Larimar both close on the vulpix's tail...!
It was hard to say who, exactly, arrived first. (It was likely The Dudes, with their absurd speed, let's be real.) But it was safe to say, that it would be quite the odd scene that they'd come across - poor Reverb being chased by a Cramorant, misunderstanding the friendly bird's intentions...! In his defense though, Inari could certainly understand being terrified when a bird larger than you keeps swooping at you.
Andrew seemed to have an idea of how to help get these two off on a better foot though, as far as first impressions went. Stepping out towards the path that the two pokemon were making laps in around the lake, he'd crouch down nearby, arms outstretched as if he were offering an embrace. "Over here, Reverb...!" He'd call to the Gothita, hoping that the little Psychic-type would understand and come to the safety of his arms.
Assuming that he'd be able to scoop up the little Gothita though, Andrew would hold Reverb close and protectively; hoping that the Cramorant would be discouraged from swooping at a comparatively larger human. Inari, meanwhile, would bark to the Cramorant - asking the pelican bird to calm down and land nearby...!
Larimar, though, had his attention drawn by something else - a Chinchou, who was hanging out nearby, watching the chase as it went on. Curiosity piqued, he'd hop his way over to the angler Pokemon, and squeak to her in greeting; bowing in his usual Spheal-like fashion. Ah, a mistress of the waters, blue as sapphires; with such beautiful lights to match, surely they could light up the darkest of depths like they have lit up his heart...!

The Dudes did arrive first on the scene, but maybe a little bit too first. Upon hearing Reverb's cry, the well-meaning Dugtrio picked up the pace, rushing forward so fast that they nearly slid right into the water! Their bodies wiggled as they put the breaks on their frenetic digging, and by the time they were done there was a solid mount of dirt preventing them from careening right into the drink. They sighed in relief, exchanging a three way high five before turning back towards the action. It seemed they had come right in time, too, because Reverb and his new feathered "friend" were swiftly approaching.
Reverb was quick to make good on The Dudes' generosity, dipping into the makeshift trench that they had dug up by accident. The Cramorant, so focused on the chase, didn't even notice at first. It stumbled over its feet a little, but continued chasing itself around and around in circles. The poor thing's eyesight just wasn't very good, was it? Even the Chinchou noticed this fact as she watched from the grass, cupping a lure over her mouth to hide her giggling.
Her giggling still attracted some attention, though! Larimar had arrived on the scene, bouncing right past the ongoing rescue efforts to instead go talk the demure anglerfish up. She looked him up and down, expression and eyes neutral, before giving him a polite call in response. She then turned back to the action, not particularly minding his presence but not actively engaging with it either. She seemed to be the neutral sort overall. Was allowing the Spheal into her bubble a gesture of acceptance towards his interest, or did she simply plan on tolerating it stoically? With the lack of much emotion in the Chinchou's eyes, it might be hard to gauge.
Reverb poked his head back out of the trench, looking to see if the coast was clear to make a run for it. As he checked, however, the Cramorant came flapping back overhead. He needed to duck down just to avoid being stepped on by the aimless bird. Inari tried to help, barking at the Cramorant to try and gets its attention, but she was a bird on a mission! She wouldn't stop running until she found the weird cannonball Pokemon and said hi to it, even if it was looking more like blurry dirt to her at the moment.
After another lap or two of this, Echo finally had enough. She teleported in front of the Cramorant, holding out a flaming hand in the universal gesture of STOP! The brightness of the fire finally got the Cramorant's attention, and it tumbled head-over-tailfeathers to try and stop itself, but it was simply too late. The bird plowed right into Echo, and the two tumbled away into the distance as they tried to right themselves. By the time the Cramorant flapped back into the air, Echo was stuck right in its mouth, flailing her tiny white legs in distress.
"Echo!" Elliot called, nodding as he saw that Reverb was finally popping out of the trenches. Even in this current state of distress, he couldn't help but give a slight smile. "Vivi, Reverb. Think you two could help knock Echo out of there? Oh, but, gently if you can." The two turned to each other, nodding. Reverb pounded a tiny fist into a tiny palm, and Vivi swished her hair dramatically before settling into a fighting stance.
The two then proceeded to basically run at the Cramorant from opposite directions, shouting at the top of their lungs. Reverb windmilled his arms, and Vivi didn't even keep her eyes open as they charged. With their general focus, was it any surprise that they didn't see the Cramorant starting to glow? They each leaped at the bird, only for it to disappear in a flash of light. This left Vivi and Reverb bonking into each other, falling over in a heap more form surprise than anything else.
As if to add insult to injury, the Cramorant appeared right next to them. Elliot tilted his head, clearly confused, only for the Cramorant to disappear again as Reverb lunged for it. "Oh! Oh, no, Echo must be trying to teleport out of there," he said, unsure if he was more amused or concerned. If she could bring Murex and Reverb with her when she teleported, there was no reason why she couldn't teleport other Pokemon as well, right? This meant all of her attempts at getting unstuck were just leading her to dodge all of her friends' efforts, Vivi and Reverb tripping and falling all over themselves as they tried to hit the teleporting Cramorant. How the heck were they going to get out of this one?
Fortunately, at least somebody on Elliot's team had a brain cell to work with. Elliot looked to Joule, who was currently smiling wearily. Her daughter had just flung herself into the lake while trying to tag Cramorant by the water's edge. How could she feel besides bemused? "I think it's your turn, Joule," Elliot said, smiling softly. "Work your magic and calm Echo down?" She nodded, scuttling over towards the Cramorant and letting out a gentle squeak. Echo's legs stopped flailing around, and she let out a soft whistle in response. As she spoke, Elliot started creeping behind the Cramorant, motioning for Vivi and Reverb to slow their efforts. Joule continued to softly, gently coo at both Echo and the Cramorant alike, their nervous, startled movements easing as she turned up her charm. She took a step forward, arms spread wide and a gentle smile on her face.
And then Elliot popped out from behind them. "Boo!" he said, voice more of an adorable squeak than anything genuinely frightening, but it sure did the trick for startling the Cramorant! It let out a yelp, giving Echo just enough time to pull her head out of the Cramorant's face. In fact, she did so with enough intensity that she flew right out of its mouth! Reverb, seeing his chance, leaped up to catch her, the Ralts dramatically swooning in his arms. She shot him a cheeky smile as she did so, causing another bright blue blush to spread across the Gothita's face.
All the while, the Cramorant retreated to the waters, diving down to get away from the terrifying "apex predator" that had popped up behind her. Elliot giggled a little, Joule jumping up to give him a high five. "Great job there, team!" he called. "Now, c'mon. Let's go get Echo and Vivi dried off, eh?" He crouched down, fishing around in his backpack to try and grab a towel.
Regardless of whether the Chinchou was receptive or not, it seemed that Larimar was quite keen on trying to woo her - to the point of deciding to put on a show..! Barking briefly to get the angler pokemon's attention, Larimar would back off a short distance to give himself some room - and, once he believed that the Chinchou was paying attention...?
... He'd decide to do a routine - the same combo of moves that he had shown the others before...! A Water Gun to propel him up into the air, Aqua Ring to produce shimmering rings of droplets about him, Powder Snow to freeze and scatter the droplets from both Water Gun and Aqua Ring, before finishing with a Defense Curl to stick the landing...! This routine surely would be a hit with this fellow Water type, even if this dim lighting meant that it didn't have the same shimmer; this was something he had practiced day and night...! Before long, she will become interested, she will reciprocate, and then they can...--
Larimar's inner monologue would be interrupted, however, by another pokemon - a Carvanha - sticking its head out of the water...! The piranha - though normally more mildmannered - seemed quite displeased that Larimar was making moves on the Chinchou, and seemed to have quite a lot to say to that; beginning to rant at the seal...!
Larimar, meanwhile, was quite speechless; seemingly caught off guard by the Carvanha's displeased ranting, and also caught off guard by the fact that he was learning a few.... Choicy words, in the process. How vulgar! Before the Spheal could throw any retorts at the Carvanha though, or continue wooing the Chinchou unabated, the piranha would cap off his displeasure with a firm Leer that had Larimar flinching a bit. Okay, okay, point taken - this Chinchou already had a significant other. Noted.
The cowed Spheal would instead attempt to bow out as gracefully as an intimidated seal could - squeaking a farewell to the Chinchou and Carvanha both, as he returned to Andrew's side. The wild Carvanha, meanwhile, would glare at Larimar as he left - making sure that the Spheal was making good on his farewell - before slowly sinking back under the waters. Harumph.
It seemed that things weren't going any more smoothly for Andrew and Inari, however; for, despite their best efforts, the chase would continue past them - Reverb being unable to reach Andrew, and the Cramorant seeming to miss Inari's call...! Instead, it'd take Echo giving a firm and flaming STOP for the Cramorant to notice them - which, thankfully, worked. However...
... It, perhaps, didn't have the intended conclusion; the Cramorant tumbling into Echo, who would end up stuck in the dimwitted bird's mouth...! "... Oh dear." Andrew murmured to himself; watching as Inari tried to help in catching the Cramorant alongside Vivi and Reverb, only for Echo to end up - inadvertently - teleporting both her and the bird all over the place...!
Andrew would call this a wild goose chase; though this was more of a wild Cramorant chase, wasn't it...? Thankfully, it wouldn't be long before Elliot and Joule would be able to get poor Echo out of the Cramorant's mouth - sending the somewhat dim bird packing back into the lake.
Laughing gently with Elliot, Andrew would approach - pulling out a towel of his own, that he'd use to help dry off the two pokemon. "That... w-was interesting." He'd comment softly; unable to help an amused grin.
Meanwhile, Inari would note Larimar's disappointed demeanor over not being able to woo the Chinchou, and would sigh; patting him on the back with her tails. There there.... OOC: 2 more rolls left with the Dark Incense..!

"I know, right? Wild Pokemon really can be something sometimes, huh?" Elliot said, smiling warmly at Andrew. Vivi and Echo sighed in relief as they leaned into the two boys' hygiene efforts, looking for all the world like two sisters relaxing at the spa. Vivi's tail swung side to side in relaxation, and Echo cupped her head in her hands while sighing deeply. She even started swishing her legs back and forth, as if trying to match Vivi's own contentment. "Joule, Dudes, think you guys can try another collab?" he asked, Joule grinning as she flipped Elliot's phone out of her pocket. Before long, relaxing music poured out from The Dudes' music player, the trio closing their eyes and swaying back and forth in appreciation.
"Like, speaking of quirky, who knew Pokemon could come with their own music player?" he asked. "Or, heck, Joule herself. Sweet, kindly little lady by day. Vigilante hacker by night! Its like I never know what to expect with these little guys. And yet I can't help but love each and every one of them." He hummed quietly as he continued cleaning Echo and Vivi up, standing up and righting himself with his walking stick as soon as he had finished.
Once they were done, it was back on the road for Andrew, Elliot, and the crew. They may have been shaken off of their intended path by the Cramorant's escapades, but that just meant there was more exploration to be done. After a little bit of chattering among themselves, Reverb pointed out north, and Elliot headed off to follow the Gothita's direction.
Unfortunately, the darkness of the forests made it a little bit more complicated than that. It was getting a little bit too dark to see easily, and the Pokemon that were happily parading across the sunny, water-bordered parts of the route were now replaced by the chirps, chitters, and howls of hidden Pokemon all throughout the forest. Occasionally eyes peeked through the treeline, blinking at the trainers and their horde of Pokemon, but every time Elliot headed over to investigate they promptly vanished. Yet how could Elliot mind too much? The trees were a beautiful shade of green, with full, vibrant leafage and even ripening berries dotting their surfaces. The shadows were a bit eerie, yet if anything made the forest look all the more beautiful. And each hidden Pokemon was another potential friend to be made.
He could tell they were getting back to civilization soon. Yet Elliot almost found himself hoping this journey wouldn't end so soon.
As Elliot spoke, Andrew would listen closely - a soft and fond smile to his expression. Pokemon were just as varied as humans, and - perhaps - were even quirkier, in a way, with half the antics they're able to get up to that humans can't. It was really nice just, considering the lovable antics that pokemon could get up to. As he alternated helping dry Echo and Vivi both up - switching between using his comb to 'squeeze' out any excess moisture, before drying off any remaining water with the towel - Andrew would think back to watching Vivi hatch, the dance battle with Reverb, the herd of Mantine...
A soft, relaxed sigh would escape from Andrew; halflidded eyes peering down at Vivi, who he was working on right now. "... Pokemon, are... Definitely amazing." He'd breathe softly in agreement, not even really realizing just how easily the words came out for him, even though Elliot was right here. It was hard to say, what was more relaxing right now - the downtime, helping groom the two pokemon? Or was it the music, that Joule had playing from The Dudes' player?
Either way, Inari would seemingly be helping with drying off - curling up near Vivi and Echo, her tails flickering with sparks of flames as they gave off a soothing warmth, akin to her Heat Wave attack - though far more controlled. Wet fur probably meant that poor Vivi was quite chilly - Inari knew it quite well, having had to take a bath a few times - so, hopefully, this warmth would help her and Echo both in drying off and warming back up.
Before long though, the two would be dried off, meaning that the crew could move on once more.
Chasing after Reverb had sent them quite off-course; if the patch of woods that edged around the lake implied anything. Out here, it was dark and lush with foliage - making things hard to see, the chittering of pokemon always being just beyond one's line of sight. Inari's ears would twitch every which way, trying to keep a track of all the different sounds to little avail - whereas Larimar seemed a bit unnerved by the darkened surroundings, eyes casting back and forth warily.
Was Larimar scared of the dark? Heavens no - that was a child's fear...! (Disregarding the fact that he himself was technically a child, that is.) But... Not being able to identify the sounds that he was hearing, and what they were coming from, was certainly a bit... Unsettling, to put it simply. The sooner they could leave this grove, the sooner, he figured.
Andrew, meanwhile, would be as curious as Elliot was - though he was slightly more focused on the pokemon that seemed to be watching them, curious to see if he could identify any of the sounds. For as dark as this portion of the forest was though, it wasn't large - this route simply didn't have the large forests that were more common in the eastern portions of Arciel, after all..! As a result, it wouldn't be long until the foliage and trees thinned out, back into the open rolling grasslands of Route 2.
However, even after exiting that relatively small grove of trees... It seemed that they hadn't completely left behind the resident pokemon, either...! Because as the crew passed under a particularly large tree, along the way back to the road...
... A white Apricorn would fall from one of the boughs, aimed straight at the top of Elliot's head...! One, initially, would think that this was simply nature being nature - though a quick glance above would reveal two things.
Firstly, this tree wasn't an Apricorn tree; the boughs being more or less bare of any fruits or seeds all the way up to the top. Secondly, on one of the branches directly above them, was what looked to be a small feline - a Meowth, to be exact - snickering at his own light mischief! An Alolan one, and quite the tiny one, in fact..!
Regardless of whether or not its prank succeeded, the Meowth would idly descend down the branches with a practiced air; a rather lax look in his eyes as he descended onto none other than Andrew's head, the kitten-sized feline able to easily perch up there...! Inari, unsure of how she felt about the Meowth, would let out a single bark up at him - whereas Larimar simply watched; wondering what the cat would get up to.
Andrew, admittedly, was more focused on Elliot - wanting to make sure that the fellow trainer is okay - though he still reached up to pat the Meowth on the head, with a soft and puzzled "H-hello there...?"

After having things dropped on his head all day, this time Elliot wasn't going to take it lying down. Echo squeaked to alert Elliot of the incoming fruit projectile, and Elliot reached up to catch it with a single hand. It was an apricorn. And a white one, too. Elliot sighed in relief, glad that the hard nut didn't hit him right on the head, then tucked it away in his pocket. "Huh, and speaking of strange. I wonder if there's anything I can do with this later," he mused, giving the apricorn a pat once it was properly squared away.
Yet who else was responsible but an Alolan Meowth? It rappelled down from the trees, landing in Andrew's hair with a relaxed, soft impact. Seeing how he got to land in Andrew's hair without any objections, Echo crossed her arms and huffed jealously. Sure, he was like a third of her size, but that was still totally not cool! Then again, now that Andrew had gotten to know Echo better, maybe she had head-pet privileges too. In either case, Andrew's head was taken, so she couldn't hop onto the spot right now. Instead, she teleported onto Elliot's head, figuring that this would be good enough for the time being.
Elliot gave her a gentle pat, then looked up at the Meowth and smiled. "Hey there, little guy," he said, voice soft and gentle. "Wanted to come chill with us a little?"
Though the Meowth seemed initially disappointed that his little 'prank' didn't work as intended, the feline also appeared indifferent otherwise; yawning widely, and curling up atop Andrew's head. Apparently, his fluffy hair made for a perfect bed; though Andrew wasn't sure what to make of his head being used as this cat's perch. Even when Echo crossed her arms and huffed, the Meowth would open a lazy eye in the larger Ralts' direction, and blow a raspberry at her in a cheeky fashion; not the slightest bit intimidated by the much stronger pokemon. This was his perch for the time being, and she could just get over it.
"... I, uhm... I h-have a feeling he's... gonna, well, hang a-around whether we like it or not..." Andrew commented softly; reaching up to scritch the Meowth on the cheek. The feline, seemingly appreciative, would purr - bunting against the touch - though remained curled up where he was, apparently to stay for now. The temptation to try catching the feline was definitely there, especially if he was so friendly - albeit a hair mischievous - towards humans. Though... Andrew also didn't exactly want to disturb the feline's sleep, either; letting it remained perched there as they resumed walking, heading back onto the road once more.
Larimar, having accepted this chill Meowth, would decide to leave him be - being away from the spooky forest was a much more interesting notion, after all...!
Inari, though, still appeared curious of the Meowth - letting out a yip up towards him. The Meowth, cracking open an eye to lazily stare down at Inari, would respond with a brief purring meow, licking a paw with which to groom his face - particularly the coin atop his head. For being a wild pokemon, he seemed rather well fed and well groomed...
"... I wonder if... I-if he's a stray," Andrew mused out loud, a hint of sympathy in his expression and tone. In a more rural area like this, it wouldn't be surprising that there are stray pokemon who stick around - getting food from kindly humans and hiding out in the occasional vacant building, he imagined. Perhaps this was also why this Meowth was so relaxed about approaching them, and trying to 'play' in his own little way?
Regardless, it seemed that Inari and the Meowth both have struck up an idle conversation, talking about things they've seen as of late and getting to know each other. It made Andrew almost wish that he could understand what they were saying - though he didn't want to insert himself into what was their conversation, either way.
Instead, he simply would continue along now that the crew had reached the road - wondering just how much longer it'd be, to Bass City.

Echo recoiled in shock, throwing her hands up to her face. For a second, her usual timidity started to reassert itself, and she started to duck behind Elliot's head to avoid facing the Meowth head on. However, as she backed down, she heard a rough, high-pitched bark from behind. She turned over her shoulder and noticed Vivi standing behind Elliot, the massive Eevee shooting Echo a rather sharp look. She yapped a few times, tone sharp yet encouraging, as if to ask "are you really letting that guy trouble you?" She then shook her head and turned away from Echo, before peeking over her shoulder to see if she had taken her advice. Sure enough, Echo did! She nodded, a small smile on her face, then hopped onto Elliot's head with renew vigor! She put both hands up to her head, stuck out her tongue, and blew the hardest raspberry that she ever could right back at the Meowth.
Elliot didn't notice the taunting. Or, at least, he didn't let it break his stride. Instead, he just shot Andrew a teasing grin. "Oh c'mon, Andrew. You say that like you'd ever not like it," he joked. If he was standing closer to the other boy, he would've given him a teasing nudge. Instead, he just laughed, watching as Andrew already started bonding with the Meowth. "I swear, you really are a natural at bonding with Pokemon. Its honestly kind of heartwarming seeing you get to know them like that." Granted, Elliot wasn't entirely one to talk there, considering he had caught three Pokemon without making a single attack and always had at least one snuggled up to him at all times. But if anything, that kindred spirit factor just left Elliot all the more impressed by Andrew.
That said, Andrew's theory was quite interesting! "Huh! You think?" Elliot asked. "You know, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Wild Pokemon can be friendly and observant too, but they're usually still not this relaxed around humans, you know? Though if this is a stray, it'd be weird for them to be so far from the city limits, you know? Especially that deep into the woods, all by themselves.
What if he's somebody's Pokemon, and they got separated?" He looked over to the Meowth, as if to see whether he would confirm or deny that statement. Even if he was, though, waiting over here with the Meowth would just mean they were all lost together. Whether returning the Meowth to the safety of town, bringing him back to the loving arms of his trainer, or just going on a little adventure while a cat chilled out with them, it was probably better that they started moving. "Ah well, we can figure this one out on the road, right?" Elliot asked, smiling a little. He looked over to the horizon, the wide, sweeping grasslands once more taking over his field of vision. The sun was starting to set on them a little, the first tips of orange asserting themselves on the open green expanse.
They'd have to at least reach Bass before nightfall, right?
The Meowth would raise an eyebrow at Echo's attempt to blow a raspberry right back. Oh, she had spirit, the feline had to admit. But she lacked the finesse or style; it seemed that the master would have to teach this upstart grasshopper how it's done. Making a show of rolling his eyes, the Meowth's tail would flick in a casual fashion - making an air of being unaffected and appearing quite embarrassed for the Ralts' attempt - before turning back to Echo, lifting up a claw to pull down one of his lower eyelids, and blowing a raspberry right back.
While it was hard to say whether or not Elliot noticed the taunting, Andrew certainly did; casting Echo and the Meowth (albeit it strained his eyes to do so) a brief uncertain glance before he turned his attentions back to Elliot. The teasing and joking around would make the young man flush a bit - scratching his cheek - as Elliot certainly wasn't wrong, the Meowth's company was quite welcome! Though, he had to wonder, whether the Meowth wouldn't cause any grief between himself and the other pokemon, like Echo...
The continued praise over Andrew being a natural at bonding, too, seemed to fluster Andrew a hair; smiling shyly, though flushing more noticeably, as he scratched the back of his head. "W-well... You, uhm... Y-you're, really good with pokemon, too..." He'd compliment Elliot - even if it was less eloquently than how the other trainer was able to put it. Elliot's team was an entire example though, of just how good he was at making friends with these pokemon..!
As Elliot listed off his theories over what might've happened with the Meowth, though... The suggestion that he might be someone's pokemon would have the feline making a dismissive meow and gesture - as if to say "Psssh, really?" Andrew would blink a second, quirking his lips, before gently shaking his head - murmuring "He... seems rather, uhm... F-freespirited..." in observation. He had a feeling this Meowth was, for all intents and purposes, wild; though what the feline was doing out here was anybody's guess.
As Elliot suggested them figuring it out on the road, though - Andrew nodded his agreement, peering to the sky above. With the sun starting to set a little, he couldn't help but ponder just how long they'd been on the road for - had it really been all day? - and whether they'd make it to town or not. Camping out on the route probably wouldn't be that bad, but it'd be quite a new experience on top of every other exprience he'd dealt with thus far...
... Well, he supposed that they'd see sooner or later... OOC: Not despawning the Meowth that was rolled here quite yet; will catch him at the end of this thread.
This will be my last Dark Incense roll, by the way..!

Echo gasped audibly at the Meowth's unprecedented levels of sass! Even Vivi was getting riled up over it, hopping back and forth and barking encouragement at Echo. Fortunately, with the support of a friend at her back, Echo wasn't about to duck out this time! She teleported right in front of the Meowth's face, blowing a point-blank raspberry at him before teleporting right back onto Elliot's head. It was such a simple, smooth movement, but it must have taken quite a bit of discipline to pull off. Just how much practice was Echo getting from all of her teleportation shenanigans? It must have been doing wonders for her psychic powers!
Elliot smiled softly, flushing a little himself. Had Andrew's less than eloquent compliment had still landed solidly? Or was Elliot just blushing over how adorable the other trainer was being right now? "Heh. What can I say? I try my best," Elliot said, voice gentle. "You'd be surprised how much you can learn about people and Pokemon alike by just being quiet and paying attention. I wasn't always great at it, but Echo's really sensitive to when people get too loud, physically or mentally, so I've been trying to get better to give her some peace. Turns out that's actually a really good step for working on getting to know people!"
He thought a little bit about his past interactions with Andrew, then smiled guiltily. "I'm still working on it," he admitted, the blush on his face spreading a hair.
Still, it sounded like Elliot's intuition was off in this case. In fact, the Meowth sounded emphatically against the idea of even having a trainer! He was a free spirit, a true Meowth of the land, and while he was quite fine with spending time with Elliot and Andrew for the time being he was his own Meowth. "Well, hey, that's okay. You keep rocking on, little dude," Elliot said. "Any place here you're hoping to get to, or are you just here for the ride?"
As they continued walking, Elliot felt a tiny finger tap his shoulder. It was Joule, grinning between puffed out cheeks! No wonder she had been quiet lately! While everyone was walking through the woods, she must have sneaked away to grab some berries. Elliot swung his backpack around for her, letting Joule take the Oran Berries from her mouth one by one and put them into his bag. He then gave her a grateful scratch behind the ears, the Dedenne pancaking into his hand and sighing in relief. If the sun did end up setting on them before making their way to town, then, hey! That would be a good start for some dinner.
As if on cue, Elliot's stomach rumbled a little. Why did his brain have to go there?
As Echo gasped, the Meowth would make a self-satisfied purr; his tail flicking in a casual fashion. What did this little upstart have on him, besides levels? Strength meant nothing when it came to the art of sass, after all...! However, it seemed that Echo had a trick up her sleeve - in the form of her ability to teleport...! The Meowth, initially, would jolt a bit in surprise as Echo appeared in front of him, his tail puffing up a hair. (and so would Andrew, who stumbled back a pace in surprise..!)
He was quick to react and adapt, however; using a Technician-boosted Fake Out to interrupt Echo - clapping his paws in front of her face - before she could properly sass him back...! Given their difference in levels, it was unlikely that the attack would do much - even with the boost - in the form of actual damage. However much damage was done to Echo's pride, however, was another question altogether.
Once Echo was back on Elliot's head, the feline would smirk calmly and smugly at the Ralts - as if to say 'Did you really think that'd work? Oh, honey.' before he returned to relaxing atop Andrew's head - soaking up the rays of sunlight and warmth. Though competing with the Ralts was amusing, he hoped she would give up soon; she was wasting time he could be using for beauty sleep.
Andrew, trying his best to not get thrown off or distracted by the two pokemons' little sass-off, would smile to Elliot; cheeks flushing a bit harder when he realized that his compliment, though not exactly eloquent, seemed to ring true for the other trainer. He'd nod along as Elliot explained how he learned to be quiet and patient from Echo, with her sensitivity to other people. Even as Elliot smiled guiltily and admitted that he was still working on it, though...
... Andrew would think for a second, a hand hesitantly lifting, before he gently patted Elliot on the shoulder. He had said that he was okay with these sorts of touches, right...? "... Y-you're... Doing good." He'd murmur softly - just slightly above a whisper. Even if Andrew wasn't good with people, he was... Warming up to Elliot, for sure. The other trainer was gentle, and patient, and kind - Andrew wanted to be able to feel more confident talking to him, and was trying his best to speak up, even with how difficult it was for him to put his words together sometimes.
As Elliot asked the Meowth if he was hoping to get anywhere though, the feline would shrug in response. No real goal, here; he just found these two trainers interesting, and hitching a ride to nap is much easier than having to find a napping spot. So, why not?
The assembled group's attentions, though, would suddenly be drawn by the sound of a rumbling tummy - Andrew glancing to Elliot, blinking a bit owlishly... Before his own stomach would rumble, too. The young man would flush in a bit of embarrassment, a hand on his stomach; realizing that... Yeah, it'd been awhile since they'd eaten. None of them really did stop for lunch Andrew was pretty sure, and it was now starting to get late...!
... Maybe they should take a break, to make something to eat? Andrew was a little worried about not reaching Bass City in time - he didn't think to pack a tent, because he didn't think that he'd get so sidetracked by these encounters - but... He wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to keep walking hungry, either.

It was the clap heard 'round the world. Or, at least, heard all around Echo's world. Too startled to blow her raspberry, or even teleport away, she simply fell to the ground like a limp paper doll. Fortunately, Vivi was there, the Eevee bursting out of the blue to catch Echo before she could fall. She wrapped the Ralts up in her tail, Echo's timidity and defeat causing her to bury herself in it like a comfortable blanket. Vivi looked up at the Meowth, eyes narrowed in a glare, before giving a raspberry of her own. She then dashed right back in front of Elliot, out of the Meowth's line of sight.
It couldn't win if it couldn't retaliate!
Elliot watched these events play out, but before he could say anything he felt a sudden, gentle touch on his shoulder. He froze up a little at the unexpected touch, only to follow the hand that was responsible for it. Andrew? Really? He blushed somewhat noticeably, but once he had identified the source relaxed under Andrew's touch. It was clear that, though he may have been surprised, he was quite comfortable with Andrew's touch. In fact, the smile on his face widened quite a bit. "Thanks, Andrew," he said, voice so warm and soft that someone could snuggle into it for a comfortable sleep. "That really means a lot."
That said, with how closely the two boys had come to each other, it was all too clear that Andrew was as hungry as Elliot was. He couldn't help himself; he giggled warmly at Andrew's rumbling stomach. "Hungry?" he asked, giving the other boy's hand a gentle, reassuring pat. "Now that I've had a bigger party with me, I've been making sure to stock up on extra food. We could stop so I could whip something up for you, if you'd like."
As Elliot said this, he looked up at the sky. The sun was still starting to slowly climb down. By the time Elliot finished cooking, even if just to whip up a little snack, they'd be racing through the darkness just to make their way over to Bass! At this point Elliot knew the route like the back of his hand, but that didn't mean Elliot was any less nervous about going through it in the dark. He huffed slightly, gently setting a hand on his backpack. "Though if that's the case, we might need to set up camp for the night," he observed, his tone rather matter-of-fact. "Heh. First day of your journey and you're already roughing it outdoors. Who'd've thought?
As Vivi glared at the Meowth and gave one last raspberry, the feline would roll his eyes in an unaffected fashion; returning to his relaxation. He showed the Ralts who was boss - and if the Eevee was doing to run away after a sass as weak as that, was it really a sass at all? There was no need to rub it in, or add insult to injury; and the relaxed Meowth couldn't bother to worry about this scuffle any more. Not when the sun felt so nice and warm on his furrr, purrrrr~....
Andrew couldn't help but cast Echo a sympathetic glance amidst all this - wondering if he shouldn't scold the Meowth, for this mess. Instead though, he'd eventually decide to just reach out with his aura - hoping that some soothing vibes, even if extremely subtle ones, would be enough to let Echo know that he cared about her. (Bringing the Meowth any closer to Echo and Vivi would probably cause an actual spat, after all.)
As Elliot smiled wider, and warmly thanked him, though... Andrew would flush a little; nodding quietly, as he shyly scratched his cheek. Elliot wasn't a bad person - he was trying his best, and... Andrew really appreciated that, in him.
Before long though, it quickly became apparent that the crew, as a whole, were getting hungry. Andrew would flush a little harder at both the giggle and the gentle pat, but nodded in agreement. Food definitely sounded good, right about now; and he had his own food that he could help add to the mix, not to mention that he was a half-decent cook as well. Who knew what they'd be able to make, if they worked together on feeding everyone?
However, then also came the fact that - if they did stop to cook - that they'd likely end up spending the night camping out. Andrew had to weigh his options, between either cooking or continuing to move.
As Elliot more or less asked if he was okay with it, though... Andrew would scratch the back of his neck a bit sheepishly. "I, u-uhm..." He'd mumble nervously - it being clear that something was up, if the worry that creased his brow said anything. It'd take him a minute before he'd be able to speak up though, as he nervously admitted "... I.. d-don't have, well, camping supplies..."
He had things to cook with on the go packed up, and he had water and food to last him the trip here; though what he had originally planned, was for him to be able to buy a tent and the such at the city! He had estimated that he'd be at Bass City by now; but encounter after encounter had thrown him way off course, it seemed.

"Oh! That's okay," Elliot said, the smile on his face soft and feather-light. "You can always use my tent! It's nice and roomy. And I've always kinda wondered what it would be like sleeping under the stars, so I'm totally cool with letting you use it instead of me." To make such an offer so casually to someone he's only just met in the grand scheme of things . . . Elliot really was exactly he kind of person Andrew thought he was, wasn't he? Yet there wasn't a bit of sarcasm, teasing, or mischief behind the look in his eyes. In fact, if anything, the way his smile softened made it all the more clear he wasn't trying to wig Andrew out with his offer.
That said, as hasty as Elliot could be at times, he didn't start digging through his bag for supplies yet. Instead he scanned the horizon, part to look for a good space for a campsite and part to give Andrew time to come up with an answer. The last thing he ever wanted to do was force the poor guy to do something he wasn't comfortable with, and he knew a major change like this was something that might be a bit soon. If there was any potential out he could give Andrew, he wanted to offer it.
Yet the way the situation looked, it might have been hard. Every second of indecision was another second the sun crept down the curve of the sky. Every minute of thinking was another minute of light lost. And every pause for words was another pause during which their stomachs could start rumbling again. Elliot continued studying the horizon, frowning a little as he came to his conclusion, before turning to Andrew and smiling softly.
As Elliot offered for Andrew to use his tent, the young man would - initially - be flustered at the idea of sharing a space with someone else; cheeks lighting up red (much to the Meowth's amusement, the feline snickering briefly) in response. However, after a few moments, he'd gradually realize what Elliot meant - intending to sleep outside, while Andrew slept in the tent..!
Andrew, of course, was near-immediately opposed to that - though it took him a minute to find his words to actually voice that opposition. "I...!" He'd begin, his voice rising briefly before he cut himself off; fidgeting briefly with his hands. "I d-don't... Want you, to, uhm... Have to s-sleep outside..." His voice dropped back down to a murmur, in speaking to Elliot - his gaze having a hint of firmness to it, even if his own voice didn't hold that same firmness. He'd feel terrible, if Elliot gave up his tent for him like that...! For a moment, Andrew would open his mouth - wanting to add on how Elliot mentioned that the contact and close proximity from when he had healed Elliot's forehead before was okay - but... He wouldn't be able to muster up any further words, falling silent.
In the meantime, Elliot would glance about, looking for a good campsite - and Inari, too, seemed to be eager to look about. Already, she was trying to look for branches for a campfire; picking up a couple in her mouth, her tails wagging eagerly. Larimar, though, stuck to Andrew's side - looking up at him expectantly, though for what the young man was unsure.
What Andrew didn't expect though, was Elliot suddenly glancing in his direction; asking for whether he thought they'd be able to make it - presumably to Bass City - if they hustled, instead of stopping to make dinner. Andrew, briefly, blinked - thinking over Elliot's question - though he was quick to answer... Or, at least, he would be if it weren't for the protesting cry that Larimar made..!
The Spheal, quite dramatically, would flop onto his back - patting and rubbing his tummy with his stubby flippers - and give Andrew and Elliot both a pathetic pleading look. Look at him father, look at him Elliot; he desperately hungers so! He is skin and bones (disregard the fact that he is still quite plump and round) and will not survive the trek, if they are to pass up a meal! Have mercy upon this poor spheal, Larimar pleads, and allow them sustenance so that he may thrive and maintain his perfectly glossy coat...! Ohhh, the light - he could already see the light, it is so beautiful --
Inari, blinking, would watch as Larimar gestured upwards with a flipper - as though he were reaching for that aforementioned 'light' - before raising an eyebrow. She was getting used to Larimar's drama queen tendencies; though this was a new one, to say the least.
Andrew, too, would watch as Larimar continued to monologue in squeaks and gesture dramatically with his flippers - casting Elliot a brief glance - before murmuring "I, uhm... Don't t-think he'll make it, if we do..." with a half-amused half-bewildered expression.

"Oh."
Elliot's eyes widened a little in surprise at Andrew's assurances. The boy was so timid, and yet he was willing to sleep in such close proximity to Elliot? Nevertheless, a slight blush spread across Elliot's face as he smiled peacefully. Perhaps he was misinterpreting. But from the boy's raised voice and the firmness holding through his gaze, Elliot knew it wasn't just him bashfully rejecting the shelter to sleep outside. "I don't think I'd mind that at all," he admitted, finding it more challenging than he expected to meet Andrew's own look. "The tent is pretty roomy, after all. There should be enough space." It would have been a bit more tight than Elliot was accustomed to, but if Andrew was fine with it, so was he.
Between that, and Larimar's insistence that he'd die if he walked another step, Elliot knew it was time to settle down and get camp made. He knelt down, flipping his backpack off of his shoulders and rifling through it for supplies, while Echo charged past him to worriedly check on Larimar. She fired Healing Pulse after Healing Pulse into the Spheal, and when none of them seemed to work began wailing over his prone body. Perhaps it would've been a lot sweeter of a gesture if she didn't shake the poor thing as she wailed, desperately trying to get the poor thing back on its feet. Was it her fault, though? She was just being concerned!
All the while, Elliot turned to direct the rest of his team. "Dudes, you guys are big and strong. And real fast, too. Think you could help Inari with the firewood? She's already been working so hard," Elliot said, smiling as he gushed over the Vulpix a little. "Look at you, such a little forward thinker" he cooed, giving her a little scratch behind the ears. "And Murex, your sharp shell should be great for knocking some branches off the trees if the ground doesn't have us covered. You three can be firewood team. Vivi, Joule, Reverb, think you three could dig out a firepit? Get some stones surrounding it so it doesn't blaze out of control." Joule nodded, chirping happily. She motioned for Reverb to follow her, then hopped off of Vivi's back to start sweeping a spot away with her paws and tail.
That left Elliot, who started fishing ingredients out of his backpack. He grimaced a little as he realized that most of what he packed was dessert. That was no way to make a proper impression! "Let's see . . . chicken, oran berries, some honey . . . some mixed nuts . . . I think we can get something out of this," he mumbled to himself, grabbing a few skewers in the process. He was already getting lost in his own world, slipping into a little bit of a trance as he eyed where Joule, Vivi, and Reverb were hollowing out a fire pit. The former two used their paws, whereas Reverb was just knocking dirt loose with his Psyshock. "Little bit bigger, guys? Not too much, but just a bit wider," he suggested, Joule nodding as she directed them in their digging endeavors.
Elliot looked down at Inari, smiling softly. "Once we have the wood set up, would you like to do the honors?"
As Elliot appeared surprised, and perhaps even a hair flustered, Andrew would make a surprised flush of his own - eyes averting as a sudden realization hit him. Was it... Did he say something weird? Sure, them both sharing the tent would mean they'd be in close proximity, but Elliot seemed to be okay with it like he had mentioned before, and he was okay with it as well (even if the notion now had him flustering as well a little bit, sweet Arceus) s-so he thought it'd be okay... Was this the wrong thing to say, though? Did he misinterpret somewhere...??
Before he could take it back or apologize though, Elliot would speak up - admitting that he wouldn't mind it, either. It was enough to put the brakes on Andrew overthinking this exchange - though he'd still grow flustered and shy once more, cheeks flushing as he quietly nodded in acknowledgement and took in a deep breath. He could do this.... He could do this...
As Elliot and Andrew were busy being bashful messes though, there was Larimar and Echo. The Ralts, bless her heart, took Larimar's dramatics quite seriously - trying to repeatedly use Heal Pulse on him, as though to rouse him...! All the while, she was wailing and shaking him desperately - Larimar letting out a few desperate squeaks of his own for the shaking to cease, before he got motion sickness...! Have mercy, young healer - he is unharmed, he is well, and he is about to spew everywhere if this shaking continues...!
Once he managed to right himself, Larimar was a bit dizzy from the shaking; looking quite dazed before he'd be able to shake it off, and turn his attentions back to Echo. Ah, fair maiden; a kindhearted soul, with a healing touch that could soothe any wound or ailment...! Worry not, for he will survive to dinnertime; and with food he shall be restored to his fullest glory...! Larimar would gesture widely with his flippers as he monologued to Echo; pairing it with an attempt to pat her on the head, made somewhat awkward with how stubby his flippers were.
Meanwhile though, everyone else was preparing to camp out; starting with making a campfire...! Inari would still be gathering branches together - though eagerly welcomed Elliot's attention, her tails wagging as she pressed her head up into the other trainer's touch. She would drop the branches at Elliot's feet for him to bring to the campfire, and so that she could bark to him in affirmative; before running off to gather more wood. Larimar, meanwhile, would try to help with gathering stones to set up around the campfire - pushing them along with him, as he'd hop to and from the firepit..! He shalt not rest, while so many good pokemon are working so hard; he will be the noble Spheal, and aid them in their labor!
And then, there was Andrew - who was looking over the food he had, as well. There was enough Pokefood and dried meats to last Inari a couple days, as well as a couple of small cans of sauce, a pack of dried noodles, and some crackers and sliced cheese. Though they at least were smart to have some extra food - for any pokemon that Andrew caught along the way - he wasn't sure how much this would last them, with so many hungry mouths to feed...! Still, he'd set them out for Elliot to take from - alongside with a travel-sized pot and pan. What could they make, if they both pooled their resources together...?
The Meowth, though, wasn't exactly helpful; simply remaining atop Andrew's head. An eye would crack open though, as he peered to the meats and Pokefood - attention visibly grabbed by the prospect of a free meal...!
Inari, meanwhile, would yip her affirmative to Elliot - still gathering firewood and tinder for the campfire, but occasionally casting glances to the firepit, as she waited for the campfire to be set up.
Safe to say though, once the cooking fire was set up? She was more than happy to light it - using a carefully aimed Ember to set it aflame...!

Elliot grinned as he saw the food that Andrew was packing. There were a lot less sweets here! This would be perfect! Although dried pasta would probably need to be boiled first, right? Elliot turned to Murex who had just returned with a big bushel of branches between her shell. Upon realizing what Elliot was implying she vigorously shook her head no. "Yeah, no, you're right. That's bound to be an awful idea," Elliot said. "But do you think you could lead me back to the stream real quick? I'm starting to get an idea." Murex nodded, and the two headed out.
As they laughed, Echo giggled at Larimar's antics and leaned into his head-patting. She returned the favor with a pat of her own, then skipped off to help Reverb out with the rocks. They must have worn him out quite a bit, because he was already stealing a nap! Thankfully Echo picked the perfect time to come, because as soon as she arrived Reverb made a show of hopping to his feet and running to grab some rocks. Echo giggled, giving him a gentle pat on the shoulder for his slacking, then picked up a bunch of rocks between her arms to start arranging around the circle. The Dudes began headbutting branches into the pit, and soon quite the nice pile had been assembled!
By the time Elliot returned with his pot of water, Murex following in tow, Inrari had just lit the bonfire. He grinned ear to ear. Just in time! "Thanks for all the help, guys," Elliot said. "Now? We get to work."
Elliot set up the simple cooking pot apparatus, letting the water heat up to a boil. While that started he turned to his skewers, putting on a pair of gloves as he went to handle the chicken and oran berries. He alternated the two, one after the other, until each skewer was full, then smothered them in the delicious honey. Next came the nuts, which Elliot scattered over each of the skewers. If he set it up right, the sticky honey glaze should be holding the nuts in place, making sure they didn't all go dropping into the fire on him. He gently moved them to see if they'd come falling apart, and upon seeing that they were intact he smiled gently. Perfect.
By the time he finished arranging them, the water had come to a boil. Elliot grinned, then dropped Andrew's dried noodles into the pot. He pulled a spoon from his backpack to stir them around a bit, then started passing out the skewers to each of his Pokemon. Echo and Reverb, with two hands each, could each hold two skewers, and Joule was able to hold a fifth. Elliot held another two in his hands, and offered the last two to Andrew. "Think you could help me with these last two?" Elliot asked. "I'm kinda out of bipeds here on my team. It's nothing too hard, don't worry. Just turn them and hold them over the fire, and it should all cook through bit by bit."
Once the skewers were all distributed, Elliot checked on the pasta again. Now it was at a nice boil, and the pasta had loosened up nicely! He turned to The Dudes and Murex, who had their "hands" free. "Alright, guys, think you could move the pot out of the way?" Elliot asked, earning nods from his two remaining teammates. They picked up the pot stand from opposite sides, shuffling it away from the fire so it could go from a boil to a gentle simmer.
Elliot gave the skewers another turn, sniffing them to see how close they were to completion, before sighing in relief. The chicken had browned nicely, and the oran berries were getting that slight shrivel without losing their juiciness. "Alright, we're good, guys! Pull 'em back from the fire," Elliot said, his team obediently doing so. Elliot handed his two skewers to Echo, the Ralts holding them up with pride, as he went to check on the pasta. He gave it a stir to make sure it was loose enough, dipped the majority of the pasta water out into the grass, then began pouring in the sauce from one of Andrew's sauce jars. A nice meat sauce, being warmed by the already-hot pasta, would have made a perfect compliment to this dish!
All his hard work done, Elliot sat back and sighed in relief. "We got your sweet, salty, and savory here, and then a nice pasta with meat sauce to round it all out," Elliot said, a small grin of pride on his face. "Take a plate and a skewer, scoop out your pasta, and enjoy!"
