Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
After spending some time in Ash City, Koa decided to continue his journey across the region. Next up was Fuji Town. This route also opened up a couple of other places to double back to later, so he was excited to go on more adventures. Maybe not to the Volcano quite yet...that was a bit much for him right now. He say on the large saddle on Kupuna's back as she leisurely floated along the path. Makoto and Azura were also out with him as they curiously looked at the egg that Koa carefully held in his bag against his body. Luck would have it, he found a breeder in Ash City and bought an egg for one of the Pokemon he had always wanted to raise: Fomantis. He kept it by his side nonstop, and the Pokemon that were out with him helped him look after the egg and made sure it was safe.
For once Koa had taken off his glasses. He'd want the Fomantis' first view of its trainer to be an unobstructed face and all. It's not like he needed glasses to begin with.It was unfortunate that they would have to go through such a route with a grass type egg, but Fuji Town should be a great place to take care of it for a while. Azura happily pet the egg with a flipper as the group continued on their way. There was a beauty to this landscape There was the occasional spot of flowers growing in the fertile soil despite the rough looking terrain. The weather was also great, too, which will be perfect for a Fomantis.
For now he avoided drawing too much attention from the nearby Pokemon. He wanted to keep the egg safe until it hatched, then he'd start to search for things to capture. The bright smile on his face indicated his sheer excitement for it, too.

“Tallyho Great Serpent! We have vanquished the mighty dragons and must return hometh to the sanctuary of card games!!” Sid’s voice was a half octave lower than usual as they played up the deeper sounds of a knight on horseback. Their Kantonian accent threw a bit of the ‘western’ verbiage a little out of line, but they hardly heard it then.
Great Serpent was less a horse and more of a ‘dragon’ himself if either were being honest. The Scolipede rolled his eyes but smiled in the buggy way he did. He had long since gotten used to his trainer’s antics. Most of the time when he transported them back from their work at the Pokemon Center in Birch City, however, they were exhausted, moody, and a bit disinterested in talking. Whatever had happened at the center to leave them so perky was now the subject of his questioning, granted he hadn’t asked anything at all yet. What a strange day.
Sid, meanwhile, was laughing a bit at themselves. Dressed still in their purple nursing scrubs and wearing a simple red jacket over their shoulders, they were not at all cosplaying. But cosplay came from the soul anyways! As they moved along down the path, Sid would catch sight of a person on a Drampa! “Ah…. a tamer of dragons…” they murmured to themselves before leaning forward. “Hello there! What be a dragon rider out for today?!”
Koa could hear the person approaching before they were even close due to their yelling. He blinked a couple of times as they rode up, speaking in an exaggerated, noble fashion. Like a knight. He seemed unsure how to respond, but was nonetheless happy that he met someone on the route. "G-Good day, friend!" He said with a wave. "I'm on my way to Fuji Town. Need to give this Pokemon a healthy environment for a while." He said as he gently rubbed the egg he was carrying.
"My name is Koa Leilani. What's your name, my knightly friend?" He asked. He wasn't a stranger to odd behaviors or manners of speech. While he never picked up on the vocabulary, he knew a great many people in Team Skull that spoke and gestured in strange manners. Makoto watched in sort of silent admiration at the stranger's behavior, while Azura was clapping happily at the display. "This is Azura, this is Makoto, and my dragon is Kupuna. It's nice to meet you." He said with a warm smile. "I'm actually on a journey to see what Arciel has to offer. Since I completed Ranger training I actually have a chance to explore the rest of the region." He said with a nervous laugh "I'm originally from Alola, so...it's all so new to me. The volcano reminds me of home, though." He worried he rambled on about a lot of things from time to time, but he seemed happy to be here, talking with a new person on this otherwise quiet trip.
Sid beamed brightly as their greeting was returned. “I see!” they went on upon learning where and why (Koa was it? Well then Koa!) was headed in that direction. “My name is Sidney De Ridley! Sid for short, if you will! I too am headed to Fuji Town! Though it is a journey home, you see!” They laughed right after.
Great Serpent looked at Koa… and then let his eye flick backwards towards Sid… and then somewhere in the middle… as if he were perhaps looking into some yet unknown fourth wall break.
As each Pokemon was named, Sid looked to them and gave a nod. “A pleasure to meet you, Azura, Makoto, and the esteemed Kupuna! This is the Great Serpent!” They pat GS once and grinned again. The latter gave a nod. Yes, that really was his name.
The explanation that followed earned a more earnest and curious look right after, however. “I see, an explorer almost then…” they spoke a little softer. For a moment, they eased back and looked a little calmer. “I am not a native of this land either but of far off Kanto,” they continued on with that formal speech but with less force in their voice now and an easier smile on their face. “Though I came here less for adventure and more to hone in the healing artes.”
Koa was still surprised that he met someone with such energy and enthusiasm going about their daily life. It was honestly quite amazing to behold and he couldn't help but give them a bright smile "Nice to meet you, Sid! Looks like we're on the same path, so let's go together, yeah?" He offered. Great Serpent seemed accepting, if not a little exasperated with Sid's antics. Still, it was nice to see people have such strong bonds with their Pokemon. Once more he felt a little insecure as he feels like he's so behind when it comes to training Pokemon, but he tried his best not to let that show.
Azura and Makoto gave little waves to Sid while Kupuna lowered her head in a sort of bow. Koa listened to Sid's own story "Kanto, hm? I hear a lot of good things about Kanto...I've never been there, but I'd love to visit someday. I know a lot of people from Kanto visit Alola on business trips."
Sid explaining that they are out to practice healing, Koa's curiosity was peaked "Healing..? Oh! You're...a doctor, then? Or a Pokemon nurse? I almost considered doing that myself during my volunteer work at a Pokemon Center in Alola. I have nothing but respect for doctors, so...thank you for being there to tend to hurt Pokemon. They appreciate every second you care for them." He said with a bright smile. He pet Azura softly "It's how I met Azura here, actually. She lost her mother in the Ultra Beast attacks, and I took care of her. Eventually it was decided I should keep her...and here we are." He said. The egg in his lap seemed to tremble slightly, but it was so slight he didn't really notice it yet.
“Sounds like a lovely idea!” Sid replied flashing a warm grin at Koa. The prospects of talking with someone willing to entertain their antics enough to offer in the first place were more than a little alluring. GS, meanwhile, vaguely hoped that this distraction would keep Sid from bouncing and yelling as much as they had. This one before him seemed calmer so… yes. A small nod was given back.
As Koa mentioned Alolan business trips, Sid paused. They… couldn’t remember a time their mother had said she was going out there, but that hardly meant she hadn’t at some point. They didn’t bother tailing their old man anymore either, so who knew if he had been or not. Hm, maybe they’d look into it a bit later. A vacation out with Gaki to another region sounded nice.
“Ah not a doctor—“ Sid didn’t have to finish as Koa successfully guessed what they were. A half-nod followed his words instead. “Yep!” The thanks earned a much softer smile after. “Glad to help.” Of everything they’d done up to that point, Sid found themselves most proud of finishing nursing school. It had just… worked out so well.
As Koa described what had happened to his Popplio, Sid looked her over and frowned. “Poor thing, glad she had someone to rely on quickly,” they spoke up again, thrusting out their chest and forcing that wild smile again. “You are her knight and shining armor! A worthy position to be in.” They laughed again right after. “Is that why you chose to become a Ranger?”
Koa was glad that Sid decided to travel alongside him for the time being. This was part of the journey, after all. "Great! Let's get going." He said as they both kept pace with each other down the route. It seemed like he was right and that Sid was a nurse. He remembered how difficult they had it in the wake of the attacks, so his respect only grew from there. He felt happy to have made someone feel prideful in their career.
He played with one of Azura's ears and she responded by playfully batting at his hand "I was heartbroken for her, but she's got a strong heart. She's playful, energetic, friendly. She really helped me get out of my shell. I owe a lot to her friendship." He said. He blushed a bit at being called her knight in shining armor "I-I guess I could be considered that, huh? I just did what I felt was the right thing to do." Still, he appreciated the compliment.
He nodded a bit when they asked if that's why he became a Ranger "Alola has plenty in terms of defense. The reformed Aether Foundation and the Kahunas are strong enough to keep things in check there, so...I decided I wanted to make a name for myself in another region. The adventure in general was probably a good idea for me. I...didn't have the most positive experience growing up in Alola. It wasn't awful or tragic or anything. It was just me making some dumb mistakes."
Before he could elaborate further, the egg in his lap started to shake and crack "W-whoa, hang on!" He said, surprised that this was happening now. A bright light poured out of the egg as it started to hatch completely. Koa shielded his eyes slightly before he looked back. In the egg's place was a Fomantis that shook and stretched as its bright eyes opened. Koa was teary eyed as he stared down at the baby Pokemon "Aaw...hey there." He said as he lifted it up gently. The Fomantis stared at him and wiggled happily in his hands. Koa was beside himself in joy as he cradled the newest member of his team. "Welcome to the world, Sakuya..." The Fomantis enjoyed the sunlight, though when Makoto and Azura approached, she glared at them and clung to Koa. "Aw, hey...what's the matter?" He said, worried as the others backed away, equally concerned. "Maybe she's just shy..." He said as he pat her gently. "Well this is...incredible." He said, at a loss for anything else to say. He had never seen a Pokemon hatch before. It was just as amazing as he thought it would be, if not more so.
Great Serpent puttered along fluidly again keeping pace with the Drampa and those riding. Sid shifted a little, threw one legs over, and sat sidesaddle to face Koa and his Pokemon better. They flashed a grin as he spoke. “Sounds like you have the soul of a knight if it came so naturally,” they chuckled briefly.
Sid… tried to keep up with what Koa was saying, but they weren’t fully sure they knew what the Aether Foundation was let alone what it had contributed. They nodded along all the same listening in as it was described. “Ahhh…” So that was why he was here of all places. “Can relate,” they assured. “Kind of, anyways. I left Kanto with my cousin because she wanted to strike out on her own, and I’d just finished nursing school. Seemed like a good time to try something—" Huh??
Something was moving, and Sid was shifting a bit on GS even as they had stopped in order to get a better look at what was happening. The flash of light had them blinking and rubbing their eyes a couple of times but as they what had formed… Ah. A soft giggle escaped from Sid. They remained quietly watching as the trainer had his first interaction with the baby, but slowly, they leaned against the back of GS. “Kawaii desu ne….” There were no other words to describe it.
A sound caught their ears, however, and they sat up again to look towards it.
As Koa held onto Sakuya, he heard something too. A wild Sawk wandered nearby and paused to stare at the large group. It seemed glad to run across a potential challenge, as it immediately and enthusiastically bowed at them. Impressed by the forwardness of the fellow Fighting type, Makoto hopped off Kupuna. Koa still had to take care of the little one, so she took it upon herself to battle this herself. Can't have the trainer shouting orders when Sakuya is trying to rest and absorb sunlight.
Once they get a fair distance away, Makoto and the Sawk bowed to one another and assumed stances. For a moment, they stared at each other and adjusted their stances. Then, Sawk sprint towards Makoto, swinging its leg in an ax kick motion towards her. Makoto dodged out of the way as its foot dug into the ground. The Rock Smash would have been painful, but Makoto countered with a rapid flurry of open hand strikes with Arm Thrust, each small hit making Sawk stagger backwards. In retaliation, Sawk kicked Makoto into the air and kicked them again. She blocked the second kick, but was still aching and sent back a few feet. Their battle raged on for several minutes, trading blows and trying to outsmart the other. Finally, Makoto ducked under one of its high kicks and pushed up on its leg to flip it over. As it tried to get back up, Makoto jumped forward and used Arm Thrust again. Sawk tried to get back up, but fell back and conceded defeat. Makoto beamed pridefully and returned to Koa and the others.
Koa smiled down at Makoto "Good going, Makoto." He praised, ruffling her fur gently. She nodded, glad to have had a good fight. Though that wasn't the end of the current events as Koa saw a trainer ahead.

On seeing the Sawk, Sid blinked a couple of times before looking between him and the Pacham he seemed to have acknowledged as an equal (??) Watching as they headed off to spar together, Sid eased off GS for a moment to go watch from a different angle. Fighting Pokemon took a different approach to combat which often led to different injuries as compared with other Pokemon.
Still, as the battle went on it seemed both would walk away from the test without too many injuries. “You alright?” Sid called to the Sawk, but she waved their efforts off right after. Sid gave a small nod back. Alright then.
They were headed back towards Great Serpent again when a voice called out causing them to stop. A young woman with a Riolu on her shoulder was quickly closing the distance between them now. “Pup here says your Scolipede is very strong,” she said without introduction.
Sid paused and looked back at GS before looking forward again. “Well, thank you?” they asked.
“We challenge you to a battle!” she proclaimed dramatically pointing at Sid directly. The Riolu on her shoulder leapt forth and took a fighting stance.
A small puff of air escaped from Sid right after. “Ah, alright?” they asked looking back towards Koa again (even if they were pretty sure anyone would be more distracted with a baby Pokemon then than not). “GS do you mind?” Great Serpent minded a lot, but … he supposed it would give him a chance to flex after being little more than a ride Pokemon for a while. Coming forward, he stared down at the Riolu who stared up in equal parts awe and defiance back at him. Sid took a moment to slide the saddle and its adjacent bags off for now.
“We can use this kind of open space here well enough…” Sid mumbled more to themselves than to the woman. “Ah, my name is Sidney, by the way.”
“Call me Annabeth! The world’s greatest trainer!” Annabeth responded. The Riolu at her side now yipped at this assessment.
Sid bit back a soft laugh and straightened some. “Of course, world’s greatest trainer, as you desire,” they spoke upping that air of formality again. The girl gave them a strange look in response before shaking her head and muttering something to her Riolu about not being fazed by weird stranger sayings.
And with that, the battle was on all the same. “Force Palm, Pup!” the girl called. Summoning up the Fighting power in one paw, the Riolu came barreling forward.
“Iron Defense, GS” Sid responded with as much if not more gusto. The forceful paw would clap into staunchly sturdy scales raised by the vaguely Steel type move. Great Serpent breathed out, still taking damage, but less. “Agility!” Came Sid’s next order, and a pinkish hue encased the Scolipede right after.
“Don’t let it get away! Force Palm again!” Annabeth called, but as the Riolu came forward, the Scolipede barreled out of the way with an almost blinding speed.
Now they were getting somewhere. “Poison Tail.” Whipping around and slashing two prongs of Poison energy at the Riolu, the Scolipede sent her flying right after.
Managing to back flip into a fighting stance only to take a knee right after, the Riolu looked defiantly up at her adversary. A small ‘tch’ sound escaped from Annabeth. “Pup, get ready to— Pup??” The Riolu struggled back to standing only to wince and cry out.
Sid winced instinctively too. Poison was a nasty side effect of not being a partial Steel Type yet. “I can take a look at her injuries when we’re done,” they stated.
Annabeth wasn’t listening, though. Instead, another order came: Reversal. An orangish red light coated the Riolu before she came barreling forward slamming another paw into Great Serpent, this one stronger than the last. The Scolipede slid backwards and then took a shaky stance again.
“Right…” Sid murmured more to themselves than to anyone. They’d need to actually finish up this battle first. “GS, use Venoshock.” The Scolipede gave a slow nod back and released a pulse of something out into the air. The Riolu shrieked in response feeling the Poison as well as the powered-up attack coursing through her.
“PUP!” That caught Annabeth’s attention, and quickly she came forward to her injured Pokemon. Though still conscious, the Riolu wasn’t in a great position to be in.
“Good work, GS, hang on though,” were Sid’s orders as they came forward. “Do you have an antidote on hand?” Annabeth looked up at them and then shook her head. Sid frowned. Walking back to GS’s bag, they unzipped a few pockets before digging around and coming back with a Pecha berry. “Here, feed her this and make sure she gets plenty of rest.” Annabeth hesitated before accepting the berry. It was only after that that Sid stepped back and started to resaddle GS again.
Meanwhile, Koa was taking care of Sakuya while Azura and Makoto helped. They helped bring out the soft Pokemon food to give to her, which he happily accepted "Hey, thank you two!" He beamed as he took the food and helped ease the Fomantis into eating. She was a little hesitant to eat something the others brought over, but that thought was soon forgotten as she enjoyed her first meal. She was still wary around the others, but she wasn't nearly as jittery around them right now. "You don't have to be afraid of them. They're your friends." He said as he gently rocked her. She was soon resting, taking in more sunlight with her leafs spread out.
He looked over and watched the battle between Sid and the trainer intently. Well, the battle was pretty one-sided. The Scolipede absolutely stomped the Riolu while barely suffering a scratch themselves. It was almost surreal to watch. Just how strong was Sid's team compared to his? A little insecurity washed over him, but he did his best to ignore it. Though, he watched as Sid then treated the Riolu since the other trainer didn't have an antidote on them. It reminded him that he should be prepared for situations like this too.
When Sid came back, he smiled "You're really good at your job and being a trainer. I'm kind of jealous." He said. "You're prepared, you know exactly what to do...it's inspiring. I'm still really new to all of this, so...it's always nice to watch people I can learn from. It reminds me that I have a pretty long way to go." He said. He looked down at all of his Pokemon currently resting against him, happy. "Though I have a good relationship with my Pokemon, so...I'm proud of that." He kept an eye on the road ahead in case anything were to happen.
“Hey uhm… thank you… s-sorry for being so… uh…” Annabeth was blushing now, and Sid found see it plainly.
A small smile pulled on their features, and a small shake of head was given. “No worries, m’lady…. We can rematch someday if you like,” they assured.
Annabeth blushed all the more and then huffed. “You better be ready then!” she spoke quickly. Sid smirked a little after that. Sounded like a plan. They watched as Annabeth returned her Pokemon and then headed off before finally re-saddling GS and heading back towards Koa again.
The compliment had them pausing and then grinning a bit. “Thanks,” they answered. Their eyes flicked back to GS again, but the Scolipede seemed as calm and disinterested as before. Good eno— “What in the world???” Sid looked beyond GS causing the Scolipede to turn in turn. That was… that was a Graveler just sort of rolling along then wasn’t it??? Sid’s head turned as it just… sort of kept rolling onwards unfazed.
A small puff of air escaped from Sid, and suddenly they were laughing in full. “They see me rollin’ they hatin’… but I keep rollin by I guess…” they laughed again.
Their interaction with the trainer was heartwarming to see. This was what it was about, wasn't it? Meeting people, forming friendships and rivalries. Who knows what kind of amazing experiences one could experience if they take that step into the outside world. This all reminded Koa that he made the right decision to travel and learn all he could.
Koa watched the Graveler roll past them nonchalantly. That was amusing enough on its own, but Sidney's comments made Koa laugh "Ah, I love moments like this while traveling. You never know what will happen, huh?" He said. He felt...a chill go down his spine as he heard rapid steps from behind them. He looked behind him and saw...a Hawlucha sprinting towards them at max speed. He winced "Another one...?!" He held Sakuya close and took out a Pokeball. "Janus, let's see what you're made of." He said as he threw the Pokeball. A Natu appeared out of the ball and landed in front of the Hawlucha.
Janus' had the usual expression of most Natu, but it was easy to tell his focus was on the Hawlucha. Without stopping, the Hawlucha raised its wing and tried to bring it down on Janus, who simply hopped out of the way and jumped at the opposing Pokemon before jabbing at it with Peck. Despite his small size, the attack had a lot of force behind it. Hawlucha swatted Janus away with Wing Attack, but Koa called out "Use Peck again!" Before he dove down and slammed against it again with its beak. Knowing that continuing its pursuit was meaningless at this point, the Hawlucha conceded and retreated. Janus stood there with its enigmatic expression, but it was definitely proud. Koa called him back to his Pokeball and sighed. He tended to Sakuya, who somehow slept through all that.
Koa laughed a bit "Sorry about that. I encountered a group of Hawlucha in the Weeping Forest. Who knows how long that one has been chasing after me? With any luck that won't be an issue again. Still, talk about tenacity. It's almost frightening."
