Farm preparations had been going pretty decently, a few plots were up and Gaki'd been attempting to work out a whimsical looking area in one of the back bushy spots of the far... though it looked more like some kids daydream not that she thought about it. Maybe it was a noob mistake that she'd decided to take the night off and distance herself from that- especially after hearing Sid talk about going to a masquerade thing- at a manor at that! The very thought sparked something in Gaki- manors were gorgeous places, where princes, and princesses and royals resided-
And usually where the main boss battle went down in any medieval themed games- not that she was asking for one tonight (but if a boss did come floating down the banister, she'd be ready)! She'd scrambled to order something online for the occasion, and the results were both a mix of good- and bad. Gaki's dress had been a size too big- so to compensate she'd tied a bow around the waist as tight as possible, and it was... difficult to move in. Her hair had been done up in princess curls, and fit with a model tiara from an old LARP a few years back. And- to make herself feel special, she'd even tucked on some of her trusty elf ears.
And then she'd learned that a mask was needed- a mask she didn't have- so last-minute she'd pulled out the trust face paint and drawn on a gold and green mask that encircled her eyes. Perfect- maybe threw the character off a bit but... fluctuations from any given roll weren't uncommon.
She never usually played the princess in a campaign, she wasn't about that prissy save-me acting stuff- usually... give her a sword and she'd take on anybody- but, Sid was going as a knight, and damn well was she gonna play her part of the princes. Just you watch.
The duo had found themselves down the path to the manor, Gaki having her arms crossed infront of her as she glanced around, almost uncomfortably. Sure, there was going to be a lot of... fancily dressed people there- but they were people. Gaki dreaded having to interact with them. Especially if they weren't true to their role. Royals, royalty- it was like some pre-war campaign. She could deal with it, right? Mingling, if she pretended they were all NPCs or other LARPers in a huge campaign-
But what if somebody broke character?! Gaki's grip on her dress tightened, ignoring how it all but swallowed her up with how big it was. "Siiiiiid..." Her voice came out as a whine, as she moved to stare up at her cousin. "...what's the gameplan, anyway?"

Autumn was Sid’s favorite time of year. The leaves were changing. The Pokemon were changing. The people were changing. Sid was changing— into their chosen Halloween outfit of the night. They had spent entirely too long choosing what they wanted to go as. Their first inclination was to go as something Pokemon inspired like the flyer had suggested, but they really wanted to do something with their new Honedge and… Well once they realized exactly what that meant, everything sort of fell into place.
They’d go as a knight, plain and simple. They dawned some traditional steel chest, shoulder, and lower leg plating and wore some chain mail mesh for the rest. Their boots were solid metal and clicked a little as they walked. Black mesh tights covered anywhere that might have showed skin, and a helmet guarded their face. It might have been hard to see for those not used to it, but Sid was very, very used to it by then.
Gaki had gone for something much frillier and much cuter. Sid hoped she was ready to get danced with by all the parties who would take one look at her and see what a princess she was. Maybe a cute girl would sweep her off her feet even. Hah, they should probably stop shipping their cousin with imaginary characters and just wait that out for now.
Mmmh? Sid’s eyes flashed sideways to Gaki as she spoke. Gameplan? “I figure we raid the snack table first,” they started. “And then dance together after…. I know I want to do the maze, but that might be a solo campaign…” They rubbed their metal-coated chin. “The goal tonight is to increase your stats, remember?”
Snack table raid! Yes, perfect! They'd have all sorts of nibbles and finger food that'd get her HP and MP to max! Just watch her be able to blow the royals away once her bars were replenished. "...a...strategic raid?" Her head tilted, though she could barely see Sid through their mask. "...if one of us takes the right, and the other left- assuming it's like the table in- uh..." She racked her mind for examples, "....skyrim...maybe...then it'll either be against a wall or dead center..." She let go of her dress and paused, almost tripping on a stupid stone on her way- did it wanna fight?! Gaki shook her head and picked up her feet, carrying on! "...that way, Sid, we get all the goodies in less than one look-over, right?" She looked up to Sid, her eyes sparkling with a need for validation from her cousin.
The dance bit though had Gaki back to folding her arms awkwardly infront of them- how did a princess place them, again...? She was sure there'd been classes like this before the start of a LARP she did ages ago, maybe... Shoulders back, arms clasped, moooodesty. Yeah, nah. She relaxed her posture and side-eyed Sid again, "...watch this princess need to be rescued from the dance floor- my coordination stats haven't been the best since..." there was a pause, and her breath hitched for a moment, before she whispered, as if it was a curse, "...the dragons."
Gaki herself knew the maze would... definitely not suit her style of game. She wasn't a puzzle girl- any game with a puzzle caused hours upon hours of torment until she was hunched over the keyboard in frustrated tears, and she'd rather not relive that as such an extravegant occasion- infront of people playing royals, of all things! "...yeahhh Sid, I know. Increase the charisma and fluidity stats, all while staying a pretty princess." A grumble left her and she shook her head, her hair bouncing after her. "...I just hope all the other princes and princesses stay in character...I don't wanna accidentally use my special combo on a stranger who goes out of line."
Left-right-down-down-up.. She had it memorized in case any serious out of character moment occurred- and she was damn proud of it.

“Sounds like a plan,” Sid ginned. “I’ll take the right if you’ll take the left.”Ah— they realized then without a half mask, eating was going to be a bit of a challenge, but that had never stopped them before. Stopping short as Gaki tripped over something, Sid frowned. “You ok in that?” They’d asked already before, but they couldn’t help the concern. They had offered to hem it, but short time was short.
….Oh the dragons. They had forgotten about them. “Never fear, my liege, I will rescue you in moments of peril; simply call my knighted name,” they answered with such fluid melodrama that one could be forgiven for assuming a sort of straightforward honesty.
The mention of staying in character, though, had them smiling. “Don’t worry, that’s what a masquerade is for, right? Like a huge fancy LARP.” Or so that’s what they thought it was for, anyways. “Anyways…” They had come to the door and Sid stepped forward to grasp the handle first before opening it and bowing dramatically. “Here, my lady.”
The left! Gaki can do that! "...sounds like a plan." A determined nod, followed by a sweeping of her gown. It was literally trailing the ground- just asking to get stones within the seams. She paid good money for this, ughh. As Sid asked once more if she was okay Gaki only moved to hitch the dress up more to keep it from trailing, a huff leaving her lips. "Mm... i'll leave them a bad review tomorrow and crush their hardworking army- but for now it gives me a silhouette- that's princessy, yeah?" let's ignore the fact you look like a two year old who stumbled into her mums old wedding dress.
Oh! Sid would rescue her- right- the knight role. She'd almost forgotten which was pretty moronic- the armor, Gaki! "Of course, Sir Sidney Ridley, I would look for nobody else to aid me in times of need~" Gaki answered back with a rehearsed tone to her voice, moving to inch the fabric out in a curtsy, and almost promptly tripping up against all the fabric. If she could rip the excess fabric off and go back to playing a virtual elf princess? That'd be great.
As Sid eased her worries the girl shrugged, her hands leaving the fabric of her dress as the door neared. "It isss a huge fantasy LARP, Sidney- I... kinda wanna see some duels- oh! Are they gonna have a bard?" Gaki hadn't been properly informed about the event, and would probably find out the hard way that her precious bard would never arrive. Wait- were princesses supposed to care for bards?! Oh no! "...not that I care for a bard, or anything, obviously"
The door came into view, and Gaki attempted to right her posture again. Back straight, hair neatly arranged, steps graceful and stuff- she was going to be the real deal. Princess Gaki from... Fuji. Not creative but the best she could come up with in such short time, forgive her! She managed to stiffle a giggle as Sid opened the door, nodding her head in a bow as she stepped into the room- eyes wide, sparkly, ready to see all the princesses-
Until promptly pouting. Nose scrunched, and posture slacking slightly she recognized a few... peculiarities against the mix. There were a few gorgeous ballgowns but... not many crowned royals, and she could see robots intermingling with humans! There was even... a scarecrow?! A hand moved to sit at Gaki's waist, and her eyes skirted around to locate the current quest- the food table, to her left, against the windowed wall. "uh...Sid...what setting is this LARP?" there was a hesitance to her voice, and she turned to glance at Sid behind her shoulder, "...i just assumed it would be a gala style event- with princesses and princes courting and old-fashioned festivities, and flower crowns and even the secret upstairs tea-parties inbetween those too young to join in... secretstolenkissesbetweenprincesses- story flavour- I- uh- mean."

Sid’s lips twitched but settled for a neutral position at the end. “True, very princess,” they answered. They weren’t fond of giving negative reviews online, but knowing Gaki, that would mean two stars rather than one anyways. At least she seemed to perk up a little at their words— for now. “Well….” they weren’t sure about bards and duels, but they wouldn’t say that just yet.
….And then she pouted.
Sid shifted to look inwards and assess what was there. Hmmmmm…. Well, that was a good mix for a Halloween party, after all. Good enough… “Seems to be scifi fantasy….” they answered her question. As she went on to describe what she had expected, though, Sid couldn’t help but smile behind the helmet. “Who says you can’t sneak away and kiss a few princesses, Gaki?” they asked glancing sideways at her. “There are still quite a few pretty people here….” They elbowed her gently before looking forward again. “But first the refreshment table, right?” Right.
Waaait, oh sci-fi fantasy made so much sense! "Oooooh~ wait I love sci-fi!" That explains it! She wished she'd known- she could have gotten away with wearing her clips instead of her crown, and maybe the pure blue contact lenses to pass for an android elf princess- or a possessed one... whatever floats! There was a nod, it explained all the robots and the peculiar people- they must have been shapeshifters- there was even somebody in a mascot suit! She wished there were more... y'know... royals but- still! "I wish i'd brought my LED's- imagine robot royals, Sid!"
A sputter left her lips and she felt her cheeks immediately flush at Sid's words. Why would she want to sneak away and kiss a few princesses?! Sure they were cute as heck and could steal her heart with a smile and an offering of peonys while their father, the king, scorned every second of interaction and they were forced to be seperated- only for the plot to force the duo together in some strange way- but no. Gaki didn't wanna kiss a princess, not at all- and she never specifically said that, did she?! "I don't wanna kiss a princess?! W-When did I ever say that? Why would I ever- a princess?!" There was another whine to her voice, and her arms crossed. "Y-You're stupid!" her voice may have raised an octave and cracked a little- but that was fine.
She didn't wanna, and that was final- though... Sid was right. There was a lot of pretty princesses around here- a girl with tri-tails, lots of rose-coloured gowns... no. "Really? I hadn't noticed- they... all look totally unpretty to me-ogre-like, actually." This was a skill-raising night! Besides, she brought no gifts to raise affection, hah! In your face, Sid! There was no way she was getting to red tier with anybody! Wait that was... actually kinda sad.
Oh- yeah- the quest! She'd dawdled with story-progression dialogue and was getting ahead of herself! Press A to continue! "I...I'm goin left, we meet up at the center with the good- with the royal snacks, Sir Sid." There was a pause before Gaki moved to pick up her skirts and rushed herself to the other end of the table, hoping the heat to her face died down.
Alright- there were... lots of monster-themed snacks here... spider cupcakes, ooze-balls... it was almost like they were showcasing low-level MMO beasts or something! Would it count as a status booster if she bit the head off a gummy worm? By the time she reached the center of the table her plate had... literally everything on it. From jell-o, to some weird cream filled tart with eyeballs that seemed to follow your every movement, and she'd forgotten all about the princesses.

Sid grinned. “Oh gosh that would have been cute,” they admitted at the mention of the LED’s. “Will have to remember for next time.” Whether it be Halloween rolling around again or some sort of convention even, perhaps.
As Gaki sputtered at their words, however, a soft laugh escaped from Sid. “Stupid? Me? I’m a level twenty knight and a level fifteen mage, my dear,” they reminded her with a thrust of one arm to their chest plate. “I am of the highest caliber intellect.”
A sigh escaped from the blade at their side, and Sid was reminded that Excalibur was right there kind of vaguely disinterested at most right then. A soft laugh escaped from Sid after. “And besides, princesses should kiss princesses.” They winked right after. Too bad their helmet was in the way.
Their eyes flickered around to the numerous girls in dresses. Ogre-like? No, they were gorgeous. Almost too gorgeous… They kind of wished they’d worn a dress—
Oh ok. Gaki was going left. “Right,” Sid spoke up shaking their head and starting right. Right after, Sid fished up a plate at one end of the table and slowly started going down it with a careful eye and a discerning disposition. They knew a little bit better what they liked and disliked (and they were just pretty picky in general if they were being honest with themselves), so it was easier to stack up. “Want to set these down and then get some punch?” they asked looking sideways at her before starting over to a table. “Actually, let me just get both if you can keep an eye on the food…”
Turning thereafter, they went and grabbed two glasses of punch before returning. Setting them down and then awkwardly sitting down, they slowly pulled off their helmet and set it to the side.
So what if Sid had high levels?! Gaki was stroong, she was hard-hitting! Obiously, the perfect type for her. "Sooo what?! I'm a level 10 berserker, and I dual class sometimes- annnd I can be a princess. You got nothing on me!" and, at the princesses should kiss princesses she only managed a stumbled hum in response- the thought was cute... Exchanging tiaras...pretty dre-
Back to the food! Gaki watched as Sid returned, scrutinizing their choices with a sharp eye as if to see what kind of stat effects they'd gain from it. Oh- right- punch! Gaki's mouth opened and closed, before she nodded, right! Gaki now had a new side-quest, stay alert and vigilant as Sid goes to get food.
Her gaze didn't leave the food, she had to make sure no spies poisoned it- the best way to the royal family was through the knights, after all. She swore she saw somebody attempt to grab one of the cupcakes on her plate, but maybe that was just her imagination, cuz when she went to turn there was no under levelled beginner there.
It didn't take long for her cousin to return with punch, and she too took her seat, a sparkle in her eyes as she moved to make grabby hands at one of the cupcakes. "...Wish they had themed food too, kinda ruins the atmosphere- imagine chowing into a robot head and having oil spill out- and it taking down some MP or something."
She glanced to look behind her, at the dance floor. People dancing aungst themselves, dreses swishing against other dresses, skin clashing- ankles showing... Not the type of ball she was used to, with no specific plot or theme- what path or storyline was she supposed to follow? "...You... reckon we'll see any royal courtships, tonight?"

Sid was regretting not having fitted their lighter armor pieces for this event but was a bit too proud to even complain right then. Instead, they pulled off one of their metal gloves and fished up their drink, raising it to their lips and downing half of it. That… that was better.
“Mmm well you know catering is expensive,” they commented only after setting the glass down again. Fishing up a cupcake, they took a slow bite. “Remember the time Haku-chan brought those fancy magi-chocolates to the con back in Kanto?” they asked. “I think he said he paid a hundred ‘n fifty pen for them.” Or something like that, yeash. Not like… not like cosplay was any less expensive, but at least you got to keep a cosplay for a while.
A low hum escaped from Sid as they glanced over towards the dance floor. “Hmmmm, ya see that pair out there? The one in purple ‘n the one in green? Mismagius ‘n Gardevoir? Betcha they’re courting….” they decided with a small sagely-nod. Why else would someone be dancing like that?
A hundred and fifty penn?! Gaki's eyes widened in the midst of stuffing her face, and she forced down a big bite of cupcake before turning to Sid, "Haku ordered those?! I thought they were homemade..." Who would pay so much for food?! Like, it looks pretty but... wait... she was gonna be like, growing food- prices- shit. What if she had to do catering one day?! Getting one-fifty pen would be like a dream come true or something.
Press right trigger to rewind! "...they were good though- and so many people are you, you'd reckon they'd splurge, right?" A shrug, and then she was using her fingers to not-too-gracefully slip some icecream off the top of another cupcake and licking it off her fingers. As Sid pointed out something, Gaki glanced back to the dance floor once more, adjusting her chair slightly so it was easier to look over her shoulder.
Oh. Oh they were definitely courting. "Gotta be- it looks like the type of cutscene before another affection-up event- like, you can't program that sorta thing?" She tilted her head, squinting at them, "...Not that they're that good at dancing or anything- i can totally do better once I get my stats up."
Sid didn’t follow Gaki’s train of thought, so when she asked about people splurging, they shrugged their shoulders and answered with a simple “Yeah definitely” back. They wouldn’t register how this would affect her now or later either.
Red eyes had fallen sideways to the dancing pair, and Sid was quietly amazed by the sheer level of talent on display before them. How? How did anyone move like that? Truly they have been gifted with the spirit of Meloetta… A small snort escaped from them as Gaki agreed with their assessment— and then went so far as to say she could do better. Sid could probably program a better dance scene, but there was no way their legs could move like that, armor or not.
“You should ask a princess to dance…” they encouraged. “Show off your truest powers.” And with that, they picked up some questionable jelly beans, and dumped them all in their mouth at once. The rush of sugar and the mix of flavors immediately had them wincing, but Sid had committed to it, and now they were gulping them down. “See any you like?”
...Right, so keeping her prices high would be key- target the splurgers, those going for big events- maybe she should try baking! They did that in a few games, right? A few back-to-back sessions, maybe a quick glance at cooking mumma and she should be good to go. She'd have money everywhere she looked- enough to buy a hell of a lot of supplies for future larps, of course!
As Sid attempted to encourge her to ask a princess to dance Gaki paused, she'd been half-heartedly licking the icing off her fingers. She moved to pop a finger in her mouth, nose scrunching at what they said. That was... her stats weren't good enough to pull of a successful encounter, were they?! Though the thought alone... wrapping her hands around the waist of a pretty girl- blushing- exchanging giggles and gossiping about which servant's after the crown-
Gaki. Gaki. No! Her cheeks had flushed at her own thoughts and she popped her finger out of her mouth, now clean of icing, before letting out a, "...Ack...nah- I- that..." She stumbled over an excuse, suddenly feeling way too awkward where she sat. ""My... truest powers haven't been unlocked yet- Sir Sid! I- dancing with a princess will just be useless."

The color that grew on Gaki’s cheeks had Sid chuckling. Reaching over gently, they pat her head and then dropped their hand. “Apologies for the teasing, Gaki-chan, I cannot help it when you’re so flustered,” they spoke before raising the punch to their lips and taking a slow drink again. “How is your HP doing? MP? Boosted from these?” they asked making a gesture to the snacks—
And then immediately stealing something off Gaki’s plate and taking a bite out of it for good measure. Oh bleh… Sid immediately made a face. That wasn’t what they expected it to be, and what was worse was it was also just bad in general. A small disjointed huff escaped from them as they set it down on their own plate again. “I saved you from poison, princess, that treat was definitely an attempt on your life.”
Hmph. At least they apologized. She let out a few annoyed sounds of protest against both the headpat and the nickname, however only managed out a rather weak, "mmmnot flustered, just underlevelled." and adjusting herself on the chair slightly, putting her head in her arms and scrutinizing her plate of sweets and treats- a bat-nugget- oh damn yeah. She moved to pick one up and- as gracefully as a princess could- scarf it down- oh, how is her HP doin? Gaki forced down her nugget and attempted a grin, "Yeah- raised a li-"
Like a ninja barely proficient in the stealth skill, Sid moved to steal one of her treats, and her eyebrows immediately shot up. An "Oi!" left her lips, and she could only watch as Sid went to eat it- and promptly looked like he needed the nearest trashcan. A poisoned treat?! Gaki's eyes widened and she moved to push her plate away, "...That's it."
Her gaze traveled along the food table, before shooting back to Sid. "Sir Sid...New mission- dispose of the poisoned tarts- you saved me, but a princess never let's her people suffer!"
Post by Sidney Ridley on Nov 29, 2019 14:44:21 GMT
Sid sat upright and set a fist over their chest plate. “I will, your highness,” they answered. They’d get rid of that awful tasting treat and spare anyone walking around the table from it. Standing up and setting their helmet over their head again, they walked over to the table again.
It was a quick grab and throw, and thankfully there was only one plate of whatever that awful substance was. Coming back to Gaki again, they raised their fist and gave a bow again. “Your will is done, my liege….” they answered promptly. “What do you desire next?” A couple of confused people sitting at other tables were now eyeballing the pair, wondering if this was some sort of paid performance or what. A shy girl kept glancing over and then looking away again.
Oh they were actually- okay. The duo were doing this! Gaki swung herself fully over the seat and could only pushed a hand over her mouth to stifle her laughter as Sid all but threw the food away. Perfect! Now the sci-fi robot kingdom would be safe! Her hands settled into what Gaki could only describe as a princess clap as the knight returned, humor twinkling in her eyes. "You've done the kingdom a great justice- and as a reward..." She glanced back to her plate, before her eyes settled on a cupcake...
Yeah. That'll do it. Clasping her hands around it and offering it to Sid she attempted an utterly serious smile. "I bestow upon you this blessed dough-ball of the south- worth a pretty penny or two if sold to specific stores." That... kinda sounded like it was right out of a game actually- but still! A reward- it was a reward!
But... what does she... desire, next? Gaki blinked, oh she hadn't... they had to raise stats, right? And... she wanted to raise the dancing stat- a serious expression fell on her face, and her hands moved to clasp infront of her. "uh...your mission, if you choose to accept it... is to fine a person worthy of our time- who's dance skills are mediocre, and who's looks..." Gaki stumbled, and averted her gaze, "Will not distract from the raising of skills."
Post by Sidney Ridley on Nov 29, 2019 18:08:25 GMT
Sid couldn’t help but grin a little at Gaki’s motions and words— or rather, the princess’s motions and words. As a particular cupcake was clasped and held out to them, Sid gave a deep bow. “My lady, I will cherish it dearly…” they answered righting themselves again and then taking the cupcake. Almost immediately, Sid took a bit. Yeah, that was much better than whatever the hell they had tried before that!
As the next mission was set forth, Sid smirked a little behind their mask. “My highest liege, I will humbly accept this mission on your behalf and will search out one whose dance skills are moderate and whose looks will not distract from our goals,” they spoke bowing again and standing up fully. “I will return.” And with that, they turned and started towards the dance floor.
Hmmmmm. Walking around slowly, they surveyed the people in the area. Many had already partnered up on the dance floor, so maybe they should be looking for others…. Ah wait… That one girl from before was sitting a table alone. Walking slowly over to her, they gave a bow. “Forgive me for startling you, princess, but would you consider dancing with the fair maiden over there?” they asked. “She is hoping to improve her skills….” The girl blushed and mumbled a few things before awkwardly agreeing. Standing up and starting over with Sid to Gaki again, she smiled shyly and waved a hand. “I return, my liege….”
Gaki could only smile and hold back another giggle as Sid took of- surely a good dance partner who was capable of upping skills to the greatest decree or whatever would be found, she was sure of their capabilities! She waited nervously for a few moments- as long as Sid got somebody who wasn’t female she’d probably have an alright time learning things- it was easy not to get distracted then.
At the sound of Sid’s voice the girl tuned out her thoughts- glancing upwards- only for red to immediately tint her cheeks. Eyes flickered from Sid, then to the stranger. “S-Sir Sidley Ridley- I believe I said somebody who... would… not distract…” Her hands gripped and uncripped on the bottom of her skirts, and her cheeks puffed slightly.
“…But… If I may see the…princesses dance ability, I can gauge from afar her capabilities and maybe- just maybe chose her as a partner fitting for my skill-tree boost- Sir Sid- would you… uh… d-do the honours?!”
Sid grinned behind the knight’s helmet, thankful for once that their features could not be seen. Sorry Gaki, I ship it. A small chuckle escaped from them. “My apologies m’lady,” they answered softly now. “She seemed most suitable for you.”In quite a few ways. “Alas… I will do as you ask and test her ability for you first.”
Walking back over, they gave a brief explanation that they wished to dance with the girl first, and the utterly confused person agreed because??? What exactly was even that voice they were using now???
wavaAjdfp_
Somehow, despite not knowing a lick of dance and being in heavy metal armor, Sid managed to take the girl by the hand and lead into a somewhat shaky but overall reasonable dance. Sid wasn't the greatest but neither was the girl, apparently, and that was ok for the both of them. After the song had ended, Sid walked back with the girl's hand in theirs ever so ready to show Gaki.
