@modsquad Of COURSE I get the special coloration for SENARA...
A faint rustling in the undergrowth made Maeve look up from the screen of her phone, which was currently displaying her pokedex app for the sake of research. Was this what she'd been hoping for?
Out from the brush appeared, indeed, a Pawniard. It didn't appear to be special or shiny in color, nor particularly large. It was on the smaller size, but not to the point that Pokemon collectors would take note of it. Still, beggars couldn't be choosers. Maeve took out one of her pokeballs and bounced it in her hand. "Attie, tackle attack."
Maeve tossed the ball into the air just in front of the Pawniard, who went rigid at the sight of her and her challenger, daggers out. Light shot out from the pokeball into the shape of the stout, turtle-like Attie, who chirped in greeting at the Pawniard before she rushed straight for it. The little Pawniard grunted as she made contact, but as she did so its sharpened hands and chest managed to scratch at her scaled hide. Attie whined and drew back. Maeve gave a considering nod. They were sharp from head to foot after all. Not bad. They could be useful around the shop as well as for potential breeding.
"Another tackle Attie, it shouldn't take more than that." She spoke with her calm, collected tone of a business woman. Attie dove back in despite the tiny blades still scratching at her, and, with practiced precision, Maeve tossed out the pokeball at the Pawniard's head.

As she waited for any signs or sounds of a little man made of knives nearby, Senara called out two of her Pokemon--one for the battle proper, and one just to sit on her shoulders as Baby Girl always did. Baby Girl took her perch among her trainer's bright blonde hair while the other Pokemon's light faded away, revealing Sphorb the Spheal in all his round glory. Senara giggled as he barked and hopped excitedly. "Oui, oui, vous allez vous battre aujourd'hui. Ne vous blessez pas." She gave Sphorb a gentle pat on the head--head? Body? Everything? Eh, whatever--and continued to listen.
From the corner of her right eye, she saw a flash of light. Which, for those who didn't know, was not the norm, as Senara had no right eye to see normal things out of. The only thing that she could "see" from there were flashes of aura--of literal life essence--so that meant there was something hidden in the brush not very far from them at all!
Senara turned her head slowly and quietly, then, gesturing toward the bushes, whispered to Sphorb: "Utilisez le bulldozer de cette façon." The very round boy nodded his whole body and rolled toward the bush, jumped into the air, and came down with a--
SLAM!!
At once the ground in front of him shuddered and shook, and the earth itself rumbled and cracked beneath the feet of one very shocked and very shaken Pawniard. The Pawniard leaped away from its cover, injured badly by the super effective Ground-type move, but still extended its arms in challenge. That was when Senara took it in.
OH! It's coloration is different! Is it an Arcielian variant?!? How lucky!!
"Un autre bulldoze, Sphorb! Nous devons avoir celui-ci!!" She cheered on. As before Sphorb leaped into the air and came down with the cracking of earth beneath his little round body, once more wreaking havoc on the Pawniard and the surrounding earth. To its credit the Pawniard still managed to rush ahead, arm-knives drawn out, and brought a furious metal claw down across Sphorb's chest. The poor Pokemon yelped in pain and rolled backwards away from it. But Senara already had a luxury ball ready and waiting and tossed it right toward the Pawniard. After all a special coloration deserved the best.
Baby Girl snickered from her perch. Two bright yellow Dark-types...how fitting.

Before the pokeball could click, it cracked open once more and out came a flash of bright light, and by its side stood the Pawniard, still in a fighting stance and still looking (somewhat rightfully) cross. Attie turned to look at Maeve, like she was asking if they were going to keep fighting...but Maeve frowned slightly, and took a few steps toward the Pokemon herself. It was still weakened, and it didn't look happy that she was approaching it. All the same she stopped and crouch not three feet away from it, looking it over carefully.
There was always a reason for why Pokemon acted or looked the way they did. That a pack of Pawniards can come through here was nothing unusual--they traveled in groups after all. But that one this little and this low-leveled was by itself was unusual. It was worrying.
"...little one, where are your friends?" Maeve's voice was gentler, and the Pawniard looked, for a moment, surprised that it was being spoken to instead of attacked. Its knives didn't lower, he still didn't trust her...but he didn't point in any direction, either. Maeve's brow furrowed. "You're out here by yourself? Where's your Bisharp?"
Something in the Pawniard's stance deflated. Its elbows lowered just enough and its little orange eyes widened. After a second longer, he lowered his arms and lowered his head to stare at the dirt path below him. Maeve bit her lower lip. She was no psychic, nor was she really capable of reading the expression of a creature with no facial features to, well, read. But his body language said enough. Either he had been separated from his "pack" and his Bisharp and couldn't find them, or something had happened and he had none to return to.
He was all alone.
"...I can't guarantee you'll be happy with me," she reached down and picked up the discarded pokeball from earlier, "Or that I'll be a good substitute for what you've lost. But I can say that given some time, you'll have more family again. I'll find you a kind mate and we'll be sure to give you a pack of your own...one you'll be the Bisharp of. Does that sound good to you?" The Pawniard looked up at her with its eyes wide and shiny. He was still weakened from the fight, and she wasn't sure if he was going to accept this or not, but...he didn't run and he wasn't moving. So without a rebuttal, she tapped him with the pokeball again, and waited to see what would happen.
The message successfully delivered, Kaisei was riding triumphantly back to Birch City on his new Bicycle. He would much rather have rested up at the nearest town, but the fact that it happened to be on the other side of a gods-damned forest had put a stop to those plans right quick. Given everything that had happened, he hadn't bothered to retrace his tracks, instead opting for what seemed like the easiest, widest path as he made his way west through the mountains. [break][break] So of course he just so happened to run into a swarm of little knife monsters. [break][break] He slowed his bike to a stop, looking for a good way around. He could surely take on one of them - maybe two, easy. But a melee against the whole swarm? That was best avoided. Then he saw the one, and he knew he had to have him. [break][break] Their eyes met. It was a truth even a child in the Pokemon universe knew: that it was ordained that a battle should commence. The Pawniard did not yearn to fight, but regardless, he stood up and sharpened his blades, readying them for action. Kaisei responded by sending out his Drilbur. [break][break] Shion, for his part, knew nothing of decorum, and cared nothing for it. Here was an enemy standing in his way, and battle must commence. [break][break] The Drilbur began by Honing his Claws, while the Pawniard responded with a Leer to lower his defenses. A second round of Hone Claws ensued while the Pawniard ran forward to Scratch the mole Pokemon, an attack Shion took on the chin with a squeak. He Furiously Swiped at the Pawniard, but his attacks largely bounced off of the soldier Pokemon's metal helmet as it retaliated with a Fury Cutter of its own. The mole Pokemon chattered his teeth together in frustration. [break][break] It seemed time for Kaisei to step in. "Shion, use Mud-Slap!" The Drilbur dug into the rain-soaked dirt, finding a glob of wet mud and hurling it straight into the Pawniard's eyes as it made a futile attempt to dodge. It attempted to use Fury Cutter again, but charged in the completely wrong direction of its target and stumbled, letting Shion hit it from the back with another Mud-Slap. Satisfied that the Pawniard was all but defeated, Kaisei threw a Pokeball at it. As eager as Julia was to get past Route 7, through the Weeping Forest, and into Ash City, she just had to take a detour through a rugged side path. One, it was more interesting that way. Two, another Trainer had told her about a Pawniard swarm in the area, and she wanted to see it for herself. Shadow walked at her side, appropriately disguised as a Pawniard for the occasion.
The two crested a rocky hill and were met with sunlight gleaming off the metal bodies of a group of their target Pokémon. Bingo! Julia cupped her hand above her eyes to get a better look. Hmm, which one would make a good teammate...?
Party Status: Shadow - Lv 5 Zorua - 5 Energy Honey - Lv 5 Teddiursa - 5 Energy
Unbeknownst to Julia, a Pawniard was sneaking up behind her from the very hill that she had just climbed. Under his illusion, Shadow's ears perked up, and he spun around just in time to see the Pawniard charging at him. His illusion let out a metallic warning hiss before the Pawniard sliced at him with a Fury Cutter, causing him to cry out as his illusion broke. Julia spun around and stepped out of the way, nearly losing her balance on the rocky hill. "Whoa!" she shouted, standing on her good leg to right herself.
The Pawniard crossed her bladed hands and then slashed them apart, head lowered and eyes narrowed in challenge. Julia had to act fast.
"Shadow, use Pursuit!" she shouted.
The two Pokémon charged at each other. Both of their attacks hit at the same time; Pawniard barely seemed fazed by Shadow's Pursuit, while her empowered Fury Cutter sent Shadow reeling in pain. Julia's eyes widened. Okay, that wasn't good. But she still had a chance!
"Shadow, use Leer!"
Growling, Shadow turned around to face his opponent and narrowed his eyes, which gleamed, causing the Pawniard to pause as her defense was lowered. But she didn't let it stop her, and she rushed forward with an even more powerful Fury Cutter, which caused Shadow to cry out.
"Shadow!" Julia shouted. She fumbled for his Poké Ball and pointed it at him. "Come on back, buddy, you did great." The dejected-looking Zorua was recalled back into his Ball, and Julia tossed out another one. "Honey, go!"
The Teddiursa emerged, licking her paw, as usual, and was caught completely off guard by the Pawniard's continued Fury Cutter onslaught. She yelled in pain and tumbled to the side.
This wasn't good. Even without being hammered by a super-effective attack, Honey had already taken a lot of damage. Julia really hadn't thought this through, had she? But there was no time to think now, not with the Pawniard staring Honey down, ready to finish this. She grabbed an empty Poké Ball from her bag and chucked it at the Pawniard. "Poké Ball, go!"
The Pawniard broke free with an angry hiss and glared at Julia.
"Uh-oh," Julia muttered.
The Pawniard slashed its bladed hands together and ran at Honey again.
"Honey, quick, use Scratch!" Julia shouted. It wouldn't do much, but if she could at least weaken the Pawniard, she might have a chance to catch it before it took out her whole team. Honey let out a battle-growl, and the two slashed at each other at the same time. Honey seemed to have done a little damage, at least, but a moment later, she spun around and fell to the ground with a weak groan. Julia quickly recalled her back into her Poké Ball.
"Good job," she said to the encapsulated Teddiursa. But there wasn't any time to waste; the Pawniard was glaring at her now. "Poké Ball, go!" she shouted as she threw another empty one at the Pawniard.
There seemed to be a lot of swarms lately, according to the occasional word-of-mouth she caught when she was in the PokeCenters and just making her way through the routes and towns of Arciel. She had deliberated over which pokemon to take; with all the travelling they'd done Fembra and Reddy had needed a well-deserved rest (despite the former's protests to the fact) and so she had opted to take the pokemon that she had just hatched. The three of them were trotting along as she made her way down the route, Mudbray keeping up pace wildly with the more serious, reserved Pontya, and Axew trotting along as fast as her little legs would carry her. Faolan made sure to keep pace with her, so she wouldn't get left behind (she was such a tiny thing, after all) and it's in this way that they continued down the route, eyes and ears peeled for the swarming pokemon that were said to be gathered here.
It wasn't too long before they caught sight of a rather larger-than-normal Pawniard stepping out into their path, blades flashing as it assumed a battle-ready stance. The thing certainly was brave, she'd give it that much, especially when in the face of three other pokemon. It was admirable, really, and Faolan found herself actually wanting it all the more, despite its coloration versus the ones that she saw gathered in groups a little ways away. After a quick note of the its type, she looked to Mudbray and the pokemon trotted forward, kicking out its back legs a little in excitement.
The Pawniard flashed its blades aggressively, and lunged forward to Scratch at Mudbray's side. Without missing a beat, Faolan commanded it into a Mud-Slap and the pokemon obeyed, spewing mud and dirt and grime all over the Pawniard's once clean and polished body. A smudge of it got into its eyes and the pokemon reeled back a bit, but came back with a Scratch that dug just that much more deeper due, causing Mudbray to kick out her legs a little in alarm. Nearby, Ponyta watched, but kept himself where he was, not daring to move unless his master ordered it. Axew was standing by Faolan's leg, watching the battle go on and clapping her little paws together, almost as if she were simply watching a show.
"Another Mud-Slap, and then Rock Smash it!" She called out, already reaching into her pack for a Great Ball. As Mudbray followed up, the Rock Smash doing more damage thanks to type advantage, the Pawniard sprung back and then lunged forward, blades at the ready - right into the Great Ball Faolan threw at it, which sucked the creature inside before plopping to the ground with a muted thud.
