"FUCK!"
Isaac was having a perfectly nice sleep until the magic headache wave made impact with the Arciel region. And what else could he say when all of his senses suddenly felt like they were on fire? He practically launched out of his bed, clutching his head and seething as he hit the ground. There were rude awakenings, and then there was this! He let out another quiet "Fuck," under his breath as the initial shock wore off, revealing only more migraines underneath. What the hell was going on here? It felt like his brain was having a wrestling match with itself, his eyes were somewhat blurred, and he kept hearing a ringing sound in the back of his head.
Wait. That last one was just his phone. He rolled over, groaning slightly as he checked his messages. It was an old friend of his from Hoenn. Apparently, she'd moved to the Arciel region too. Apparently, she'd also caught wind of Elliot's first gym battle on Chuutube. And apparently, that meant two things. The first was that instead of going on a trip with friends, he'd basically ran away from home. And he lied about it! The second was that, as a near direct result, he had missed several pivotal steps of Elliot's journey. His first Pokemon, his first capture, his first freaking gym battle! And the third thing?
Okay, he couldn't even think of a third thing. The migraines were seeing to that. But it didn't change the fact that Isaac was equal parts heartbroken and furious. Clutching his head, he fired off a quick text, then seethed as he rose to his feet. If his brother was going to run off to Bass City without telling him? Than he was about to march over there and give him a piece of his mind.
He looked over to the small bed at the foot of his own. That was where his Cubone, Duster slept. The Cubone had darted in for shelter during a storm, and Isaac had taken him. Since then, their relationship was . . . an interesting one, to say the least. Isaac cared for Duster best he could, and Duster coldly glared at anyone that looked at him funny. Then again, Duster coldly glared at everything. He didn't seem very good at expressing emotions outside of a generally neutral pissed-off vibe. Isaac didn't even know if the thing knew any attacks! Yet if he was going on a journey, Duster was as good of a choice of a first Pokemon as any other. "Dust. Hey, Dust," Isaac whispered. Sure enough, that neutrally-pissed glare was now aimed Isaac's way, the Cubone not very happy at his beauty sleep being roused. "C'mon, we-
Agh, fuck. You feeling it too?" Isaac seethed as pain went shooting through his temples. Yet the Cubone's expression remained unchanging. "No? Just humans? Shit. Figures my luck, huh? Still . . . I think it's finally time, bud. Ready for a journey?" The same neutral pissed grin. Isaac prepared to back off, yet as he took a step back Duster slowly rose to his feet. "So . . . that a yes?" Duster didn't respond. "No? . . . Is that an 'I'm gonna beat your ass for trying?' look, ooooooor?' " Duster just walked past Isaac, making for the door with purpose in his stride. "Okay. You're leading the way. I can work with that. You know about more than Pokemoning than I do. Being a Pokemon and all. You know. Assuming you can, like. Fight."
Duster didn't even acknowledge his response. Maybe it'd be a good idea to stop at the Pokemart after all.
Of course, today wasn't a normal day as far as Pokemarts were concerned. Thanks to all of the chaos going on, the Pokemart was actually rather empty! It turns out most people in Isaac's situation were going to the hospital or gluing themselves to the news, not staggering towards a Pokemart with a head full of purpose and a mouth full of fucks. But Isaac wasn't exactly most people, even if it'd probably be better for his health and blood pressure if he was.
He squinted as he tried to peer through the glass door, Duster looming behind him as if he were a shadow. Sure enough, the Pokemart seemed completely empty. There wasn't even an employee at the front desk. Isaac swore under his breath, cursing his luck. Sure, this was one of the smaller, more ramshackle Pokemarts in the city, but empty? Seriously? But as he thought about it, he realized his luck might've been better than he had thought. If the Pokemart was empty, and nobody was around to care, what'd be so wrong with borrowing a few items? He was hurting for cash, and he had a long journey ahead of him, and his brother needed him.
Well, this time his brother needed an ass whooping, but same difference.
Isaac looked around, making sure no eyes were on him, then gently tested the Pokemart door. It was open. Good. Maybe it was recently abandoned. That meant there wouldn't be any alarms, locks, or even employees on watch to worry about. And because the place was open, the cameras wouldn't think anything less of Isaac waltzing through the place with armfuls of goods. He was clearly just a confused shopper, trying to make some purchases in an open place of business. That was his story, and damnit, he was sticking to it!
He glided through the aisles with practiced efficiency, making sure not to linger too long or hustle too fast. Some Pokeballs? Yeah, he'd take those. Medicine for Duster? Don't mind if he does! A few evolution items? Oh, those he made a show of, weighing a fire stone and a water stone with agony in his eyes before finally settling on the water stone. He continued this way up and down each aisle, planning out as many "purchases" as he could feasibly bring to the front counter.
This was going to be the hardest part; the waiting game. If he lingered too hard, an employee could return. If he didn't even try to wait for his purchases to be checked, the security footage'd reveal his game and get him busted. A bit of sweat rolled down his brow as he tried to pick a neutral standing position. Why couldn't he be like the emotionally-impenetrable Duster? That Cubone's poker face was insane! After shifting position a few times, tapping his foot a bit, and even leaning over the counter to try and peek for an employee. Once he saw nobody was there he shrugged, tracing his path back up and down the aisles. Wherever the cameras were at an impossible-to-fudge angle, he actually put some of his ill-gotten gains back. Yet at more unclear angles, he mimed the action instead, deftly tucking the item of interest into his pocket. At this rate, he'd be leaving with some serious goods! Isaac was all smiles as he rounded the corner on the last aisle, ready to strut outside the Pokemart with some shiny goods.
Or, instead, he could bump right into someone's chest. And that chest could be the chest of the Pokemart's owner, a big, burly man glaring down at Isaac with fire in his eyes. Isaac looked around, weighing his options, before smiling sheepishly and taking the items out of his pocket one by one. Duster simply looked away, doing his best impression of somebody who had no idea who Isaac was. The more items came out of Isaac's pocket, the bigger his sheepish grin was, and the stonier the Pokemart owner's glare became.
Needless to say, the door slammed behind Isaac with quite a bit of force. "And stay out!" the owner called, Isaac stumbling a little form the door quite literally hitting him in the ass. He was quite quick to walk away from the store, Duster snickering a bit as he followed behind. "Oh, great. Now you have emotions," Isaac said, rolling his eyes. As if startled by the revelation, Duster pulled his mask over his face, death-glaring at Isaac with renewed vigor. "Okay, yeah. I get it. Buuuut if you're gonna be such an ice queen, you'll love what I got for you." Isaac grinned as he flicked a black disk from his pocket. "New TM for you. Ice Beam. And there were tons of 'em, too. Who knew such a run-down place had so many?" If only Isaac knew that it wasn't exactly the right disk that he had grabbed.
Even with his mistake, a few other, more easily-concealed items were still in his bag. There was a single pearlescent scale tucked beneath his wallet, and there was an Ultra Ball nestled perfectly behind his set of Poke Balls. This may not've gone as planned, but Isaac wasn't leaving this encounter empty handed!
His headache was starting to go away. Maybe it was the adrenaline rush of a poorly-planned heist, something he bemusedly realized that he could totally get used to. Or maybe it was just the fact that he was finally up and out of bed, instead of stewing in his own migraine. Whatever the reason, Ash City's fountain was Isaac's and Duster's next destination. He and Duster faced one another, Isaac holding the disk and Duster glaring at it intently. They were primed. They were ready. They were focused!
They had no idea what they were doing.
As Isaac and Duster had their stare-off, a pair of wide, bulging eyes peered at them from the water. A sympathetic sigh bubbled up from the fountain. These poor fools! If only they had a guiding hand! Or, in this case, a guiding fin. Fortunately, one lurked closer than they could ever know. A rhythmic "Fee. Bas. Fee. Bas. Fee. Bas," drawled from the fountain, Isaac looking around for the source of the noise. "Hear that, Dust? Sounds kinda like a-"
A Feebas! The fish lunged at Isaac, startling him so bad that he dropped his bag. The "TM" clattered to the floor, his Pokeballs rolled everywhere, and even the scale he had snagged slid out from his wallet. After landing at Isaac's feet, the Feebas decided that the best means of helping right now was to lend a hand in cleaning up. It flopped gracelessly across the ground, Isaac and Duster staring at it as it began nudging Poke Balls at the duo's feet. Then it picked up the TM in its teeth, dropping it atop the Poke Ball pile. That just left one last item; the scale that had fallen on the floor. It bounced towards the scale, Isaac checked his Pokedex, and his eyes immediately widened in shock. "Hey, wait, be care-"
The Feebas picked up the scale between its teeth, turning to Isaac with a goofy grin. And then it exploded into a brilliant white light, Isaac and Duster flinching away from the light show. By the time they recovered from the sudden, unprepared flash, there was no longer a Feebas in front of them. Instead, there was a 30-foot Milotic that had seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Its long, thick coils looped acround Ash City's fountain, and its sudden appearance left quite a few onlookers backing up in surprise.
". . . Ah, fuck."
(250 words! Crime Up?
Isaac uses his Prismatic Scale to evolve his Feebas into a Milotic . . . before even finishing his first IC meeting with it. Good job, buddy!)
Rui was abruptly and violently awoken in the middle of the night by the feeling that the universe was pressing in on her head. As quickly as she'd sat up, startled by the feeling, she was forced back down to the pillow by a wave of dizziness. She held her forehead with a groan. What on Earth was this...?
She became faintly aware of confused warbling at her side as Clarence stirred. She turned to look at him, fighting to smile reassuringly, but she had to squeeze her eyes shut when his image blurred before her. Clarence placed his stubby, ghostly hands on Rui's arm under the blankets, his warbles growing more concerned.
"Sorry," Rui muttered; she didn't see Clarence's frown at this unnecessary apology. "It's just a headache. Or, nh, a migraine..." Which was strange because she hadn't had a migraine in years. It felt like something specific had happened to trigger that one, too, but the pounding in Rui's head made it hard to think.
Clarence's eyes widened a bit. After a moment, he shuffled out of the bed, floated over to where Rui had placed her Poké Balls, and pressed the button on the Luxury Ball that housed Anahita. The Blissey emerged with a yawn, then blinked and looked wearily around.
"What time is it?" she asked softly.
Instead of answering her question, Clarence said, "I think Rui's sick."
That snapped Anahita to full alertness. She let out an alarmed trill, ran over to Rui's bedside, and reached out a stubby arm to touch her trainer's forehead. The Blissey's eyes widened; Rui was burning up!
"What happened?" Anahita asked Clarence, but Rui spoke up before he could answer:
"I'll be all right. It's just a migraine." And then, as if angered at being called "just" a migraine, a wave of pain shot across Rui's head, causing her to wince with a pained hiss.
Anahita stepped back and began to channel energy into her egg. Once it was glowing orange, she raised her arms, causing that egg-shaped glow to rise into the air and float toward Rui. It melted into her body, and she glowed faintly orange as it took effect. Rui took a deep breath as the Soft-Boiled began to soothe her pain.
"Thank you, Anahita," Rui said. She started to sit up. "I think I'm—" She was cut off with a gasp as another rush of dizziness struck, forcing her back down to the pillow. Anahita and Clarence both cried out in alarm. The same thought went through the heads of everyone in the room: Something was wrong. Really, really wrong.
"Get Kama," Anahita said to Clarence. "Rui needs a doctor."
Clarence nodded, worry more evident on his face than it had ever been. He floated over to open the third Poké Ball on Rui's belt, Kama's, as Anahita moved back to Rui's side and began to stroke her head soothingly. Kama scanned the room upon emerging and zipped to Anahita's side when she saw the state Rui was in.
"What happened?" Kama buzzed.
"We need to take Rui to a doctor," Anahita replied.
"What?!" Kama's eyes widened. "Why?"
"She woke up with a migraine, and Ana's Soft-Boiled didn't make it go away," Clarence explained quietly.
"Kama, help Rui sit up," Anahita said. "Clarence, get her shoes. The slip-on ones."
"Those are for inside," Clarence muttered.
"They're easier to get on, though."
Clarence nodded and floated to the corner of the room where Rui had placed her shoes. Kama, meanwhile, carefully slipped one pincer under Rui's pillow to help her sit up.
"I'm not exactly soft like you are," Kama said in a low buzz.
"But you're bigger and stronger," Anahita said.
"What are you guys doing?" Rui murmured. Knowing that Rui couldn't understand her, Anahita rubbed Rui's hand reassuringly.
"Here, use the blanket for extra cushioning," Anahita suggested before pulling said blanket off the confused Rui and draping it over her shoulders. Kama nodded, moved her other pincer down to Rui's back, and nudged her toward the edge of the bed. Meanwhile, Clarence placed Rui's shoes below the bed, near where Rui's feet would be once she got up.
"Are you guys taking me somewhere?" Rui asked. All three of her Pokémon nodded. "Oh..." She wished she were trained in telepathy so she could figure out what was actually going on. Then again, with her head pounding like this, she wasn't sure she'd even be able to concentrate enough for that...
She let her Pokémon guide her out of bed, into her shoes, and out the door. Faintly, Rui thought of how ridiculous she must look in her pajamas and house shoes with a pillow behind her head and her blanket draped over her back, being led by her concerned-looking Scizor and Blissey while her Phantump trailed alongside them, watching Rui worriedly. But those thoughts were swiftly interrupted by another pounding in her head; Kama wrapped her arms around Rui's midriff to hold her up.
"So where is the hospital?" Kama asked once they were outside.
Anahita and Clarence looked at each other, hoping the other would have the answer. Clearly, though, neither of them knew.
"We'll just have to ask someone," Anahita said. She looked around to see a short blond and (presumably) his Cubone standing near the fountain. Before she could approach, though, a Feebas jumped out of the fountain, apparently startling the boy so badly that he dropped what he was carrying. Anahita turned back to the others; both Kama and Clarence just shrugged their shoulders. Anahita was prepared to find someone less... occupied to ask, but then there was a bright flashed that caused her to squeak in surprise and cover her face; Rui hissed and winced at the pain the added visual stimulation caused her. When they dared to look up again, there was a large Milotic wrapped around the fountain.
Rui held her forehead. This night was just getting weirder and weirder... Anahita, meanwhile, found herself staring not at the Milotic but at the boy who had just uttered an eloquent "Ah, fuck." She stepped closer. Something seemed off about him, though she couldn't quite put her stubby arms on what.

The Milotic blinked, looking down at Isaac. He was always short, but was he really that short? No, no. He definitely wasn't teeny-tiny micro size like that. And come to think of it, the fountain used to be perfectly him-sized! He tried to worm his way back into the water, only to find that he could barely squeeze into it. This was his home! It wasn't a great one, true, but what was he supposed to do now that he didn't even fit into it anymore? He looked around, worry shining in his beady eyes, before finally letting out a mournful howl skywards.
The howl got Isaac cringing, a hand to his head as he grit his teeth. Fuck, his headache was bad enough without this Milotic howling up a storm. With the sound pounding his head into bits, what was he supposed to do here? If Isaac's condition wasn't already noticeable to Anahita, she'd have no trouble at all spotting the way he flinched away.
Yet, as he cracked an eye open, he noticed the tense, alarmed posture of the Milotic, and his pained expression softened some. ". . . Hey," he said, voice so quiet it barely passed above a whisper. He took a hesitant step towards the Milotic, raising one hand to show he meant no harm even as he kept the other clutched to his head. "Hey, come on. Don't know what's got you scared, but its okay. I mean. It's not okay. Since you're scared and all that. But, I mean. It's okay to be scared. Even if the fear itself sucks, it's just natural, y'know? So don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't feel.
Now c'mon. Get out of that fountain. It's too small for you. See if that helps calm you down some."
For someone with such a rough voice, he could be surprisingly gentle! It seemed to do the trick, too, his softer tone convincing the Milotic to pop out of the fountain. It slithered up to Isaac, flinching a little his tail bumped into the fountain's statue. "C'mon, c'mon, like we just said. It's okay," Isaac said. "Not used to being so big, huh? Heh. At least one of us has that problem. But give it time. You'll get used to it. Just like-, ugh, fuck." Isaac recoiled away once more, clutching his head. Just like how Isaac wouldn't be getting used to this headache!
Seeing Isaac's pain, the Milotic snapped into action. Its eyes hardened as it flicked its tail towards Isaac, a ball of sparkling water hitting him full-force in the face. Isaac staggered back, coughing and sputtering up a storm, but his headache didn't seem to be helped any. In fact, all the Milotic really accomplished was messing up his hair and soaking his shirt! "What the heck was that f-" Isaac started, only to bite his tongue when he saw the Milotic cringing away. "No, no, it's fine. You were just trying to help, huh? What was that . . . cooling me off? Water gun? No, no. Sparkly, shiny . . . Life Dew?" The Milotic perked up a little, nodding. "Sheesh, heck does a Feebas just learn that? You must've been a pretty special one, huh?
Well. Speaking of moves nobody as any business knowing. I really gotta get back to teaching Duster how this TM works, but-" Isaac felt a tug at his pant leg. Speak of the devil, and there Duster was! And he was quick to point out the strange girl that had arrived on scene. She looked like a hot mess, but hell, who was Isaac to judge right now? He blinked a few times, touched his hair up a bit, then tried to smile through the head pain. "Oh. Hey. I, uh. I'm just as confused as you a-
Before he could say anything further, Duster toddled up to Rui. Weird, Isaac was not used to him being such a friendly sort! Yet he shot the girl a bashful wave as he barked towards her. And was that a slight smile on his face? What the heck was going on here?
Isaac wasn't the only one cringing at the howl; Rui, too, clutched her head and let out a pained noise through clenched teeth. Anahita, closer than the others, started a bit at the sound, but what really got her attention was the way the blond reacted. She looked between him and Rui, noting their similar reactions. Was he sick, too?
But even with his obvious pain, the stranger reached forward to whisper comforting words to the distressed Milotic. It was so sweet that Anahita couldn't help but smile, but then the boy recoiled from the pain again, and she remembered why she was out here in the first place. But before she could step forward to administer any help, the Milotic flicked his tail and splashed a Life Dew on his head.
Well... it didn't seem to do anything but get the boy wet, but at least he tried.
Kama hissed to get Anahita's attention. The Blissey turned and nodded at her companion before approaching Isaac to get a better look at him. As far as she was concerned, this would accomplish two things at once: figuring out where the hospital was and getting two poor souls to it.
Rui barely managed a smile at the boy's greeting. "Hello. Um, we..." Rui trailed off. One, she still wasn't entirely sure what her Pokémon were doing, though she had her suspicions. Two, the boy's Cubone toddled up to her and barked what seemed to be a greeting. "Hello, there," Rui said. Something about this Cubone was... peculiar. Clarence seemed to have noticed it, too, because now he was staring at said Cubone. But before Rui could focus enough to figure out just what she was sensing, her temples pulsed, and she let out a little whine of pain and held her head again.
"Sorry," she muttered. Then, to Isaac: "I don't suppose... you have a headache, too?" Something in the back of her mind made her want to ask that question. Why did all of this seem so familiar...?

Isaac groaned a little at Rui's question. The word headache was enough to give him a headache right now! "That obvious, huh?" he asked, trying to muster up a weary smile. Unfortunately, it was too fragile to really hold up for long. What was he supposed to do when his head was killing him like this? "I'd ask if you were too, but, uh. You kinda look like the King of Bedtimes right now. And, y'know. You already asked first." Seriously, Isaac might've been dragging himself out of the house by the skin of his teeth. But at least he was wearing clothing! Poor girl must've been a mess if she was leaving the house like that.
That'd also explain why her Chansey was currently giving the sweet, friendly equivalent to the evil eye right now. Isaac was half convinced that, at the slightest provocation, the thing'd tackle him to the ground and give him emergency medical attention. Maybe the Milotic's failed attempt at doing the same would bail him out of that. As someone with a fierce independent streak, there was nothing Isaac found more taxing than being fussed over. Especially when he was trying to hunt down a certain wayward brother!
"Name's Isaac, by the way," he added. "Nice to meet you. Y'know. Except for the part where none of this is nice at all. That Cubone's Duster, and heck if I even know who this Milotic is." The Milotic leaned into Isaac, nuzzling him. With his enormous head, and Isaac's scrawny frame, it was enough to almost lift Isaac off of the ground. "Except I guess I should, soon? Fuck. I always sucked at names."
Rui's face went a deep shade of red at the nickname. Oh, jeez, she probably looked ridiculous, didn't she? Any comment she may have had about Isaac's appearance, well-intentioned as it was, died in her throat. "Uh, I'm Rui," she said instead. "This is Clarence, Kama—" She gestured to her Pokémon. "—and Anahita is the one worrying over you." The Blissey trilled softly.
The huge Milotic nuzzling Isaac was like a shot of serotonin to Rui's scrambled mind, and she was finally able to manage a relaxed, albeit brief, smile. "He seems to like you quite a bit. Though I'm not much help with names right now, unfortunately..." If she could think straight, Rui would start suggesting names of mythological sea serpents or water deities... or would a health deity be more appropriate here? It wasn't like she could think much on it without her head pounding.
Anahita, meanwhile, turned to the Milotic to ask if he perhaps knew where the hospital was.

Rui, huh? "Well, good to meet you all," Isaac repeated, glancing towards each Pokemon as they were introduced. "Had a feeling Ana there was worried about me. But, hey, c'mon. I'm okay, promise." Said promised was promptly followed up by seething reminder that no, Isaac wasn't all okay here. He couldn't get dragged off to the hospital by some big old egg! He had places to go, Pokemon to catch, and little brothers to catch up to!
He smiled, bemused, as Rui pointed out the Milotic's obvious affections. "Well, at least my team's got one friendly face on it now," he said, shooting a teasing smile his Cubone's way. The Cubone's expression returned to its usual Neutral Pissed look as he looked back at Isaac, barking out a few sarcastic laughs. He then turned to Rui, look softening again. He seemed perfectly capable of being . . . well, friendlyish. Even around Rui, his look was more wary than anything.
In contrast, the Milotic had a big, dopey grin on its safe, not very befitting such an elegant sea serpent. It was as if the poor thing needed to be reminded that it had evolved into one of the Pokemon world's most beautiful specimens. Once he was done nuzzling Isaac he moved to examine Rui's team, casting them all in shadow from his sheer bulk alone.
At Anahita's question, he tilted his head in confusion. Hospital? He turned to Duster, burbling a repeat of the question, only for Duster to bark out some response about a hurty building. Oh! He knew where the hurty building was! The Milotic pointed his tail towards the north of the town.
"You guys heading north?" Isaac asked, picking up on what the Milotic was implying. Or, at least, he was picking up the concept of cardinal directions. "That's chill. Me and mine were gonna be heading West, soon as we figured out this disk." Sure enough, that was a TR in Isaac's hand!
"It's nice to meet you all, too," Rui said. "I just wish it was under different circumstances..."
Anahita puffed out her cheeks at Isaac and put her hands on her hips... or tried to, anyway. It was hard when her arms were so short and stubby. But either way, her message was (hopefully) clear: Isaac was clearly not "okay," and she knew it!
Rui offered what she hoped was a comforting smile to the Cubone. Normally, this was the part where she would ask about the two's relationship or perhaps offer some advice based on what she knew of Cubone, but she felt like she was losing her balance the longer she stood there, and she knew that Kama's grip on her could only get so tight before it got dangerous.
Anahita seemed unfazed by the Milotic's largeness, more concerned with getting directions and helping her trainer. Clarence stared up at the Milotic with big, blank eyes. Kama let out a brief warning buzz, telling the Milotic not to get too close lest he accidentally hurt Rui, but the Scizor's expression was soft enough that it hopefully quelled any worries of hostility.
Once she'd gotten her directions, Anahita trilled and beckoned the rest of her group to the north. She looked expectantly at Isaac.
"I suppose we are," Rui said in response to Isaac's question. "Oh, that's a Technical Record. I'm... afraid I don't know much about them, sorry." She'd had to have some help with TMs and could prooooobably work one on her own if she needed to, but she'd never touched a TR before.

"Ah c'mon, what's not to love? Splitting headache. A giant fish exploding out of nowhere. Finding out a certain somebody's due a buttkicking. Can't think of a better day than this," Isaac snarked, not even his intermittent seething from head pain capable of breaking his sass-stride. "Only way to make it better would be if I could get this friggin disk working. But, hey. Beggars can't be choosers, y'know?"
That said, it was a what now? "Wait, that's not a TM?" Isaac asked, turning the disk over and over in his hands. Sure enough, the disk wasn't the bright blue most TMs of the type would be. It was black, almost like an old vinyl record, with a light blue band around the middle. The writing on the middle confirmed Isaac's suspicions, and he let out a sigh of irritation as he realized his mistake. "Sheesh, I knew there was something up with this. Is that why we can't make heads or tails of it? Well, glad to finally know, at least." He sighed a little, putting the disk down. As he did, Duster picked it up and started staring intensely at it.
As Duster focused on the TM, Isaac blinked in confusion at Anahita's intense stare. She was trying to communicate . . . something. But what? He didn't put two and two together until Anahita started guiding the group north, the sheer opposite of where Isaac was heading. She was taking her team to the hospital, and she seemed hellbent on taking Isaac with them. "Huh?" he asked. "No, no, I'm good. Trust me, I've been through way worse."
Honestly, part of Rui was impressed that Isaac still had this kind of attitude even with the headache. Maybe his wasn't as bad? Or maybe he was just that determined to power through it. Though his mention of someone being "due a buttkicking" did have her concerned.
"Wha—Who?" Rui stammered out. She glanced around her as if she'd somehow find the target of Isaac's apparent rage. ... It wasn't her, right? She was almost certain he didn't have any reason to be upset with her, but then again, thinking wasn't exactly the easiest thing in the world right now.
The fact that Isaac had apparently been through worse before was concerning, though. "Are you sure?" she asked. "If multiple people have it, it could be something spreading, or..." She winced as a memory bumped against the edge of her consciousness. Something like this had definitely happened before, but it was like there was a wall that stood between her and remembering just what that was.
Anahita trilled out her insistence that Isaac go with them, but Kama shook her head and buzzed out, "Forget about him. If he doesn't want to go, we can't force him. Besides, we have to focus on Rui." Clarence nodded and took his trainer's hand.

Isaac blinked as concern Rui stammered at him. Did she think . . . oh, no! Goodness, no! She had literally done nothing wrong, why would she get a buttkicking? She was easily, like. Last in line for one. Maybe second to the Milotic that could literally put him on the roof of a Pokemart if he tried. "No, no, no, not you," he said, holding his hands out in a placating gesture and forcing a smile back on his face. "You're fine, trust me. Just . . . got some people I gotta talk to, y'know?" That sounded a lot less worrisome than what he was previously talking about!
That said, was it something spreading? Isaac pondered for a second, then shook his head as if in doubt. "Nah. Can't be a bug. Haven't been around nearly enough people for that," he rationalized. "Must just be something fucky with the heat. Or maybe something about the air pressure. Hell if I know. I'm no weatherologist." Meteorologist, Isaac. Come on. There's literally a word for that!
Still. Rui had a point, as much as he didn't want to get dragged over to the hospital. Something strange was going on, and he wasn't quite sure he liked the sound of it. "What kind of or's on your mind, anyway? You seem kinda nervous about something."
Rui's shoulders slumped in relief. She didn't think she'd done anything to deserve a "butt kicking," but with everything as out of sorts as it was, it was hard to think logically. Even though whoever it was who deserved this so-called talking-to wasn't any of Rui's business, especially when she had only just met Isaac and knew nothing about the people he associated with, she couldn't help but worry a little. But that worry was quickly pushed aside by the other thoughts knocking around in her head, trying to find coherency.
She shook her head, eyebrows scrunched together, at Isaac's thoughts on the weather. She tried again to think, coaxing her mind back first one year, then two, three, four, five—"Six years ago," she said, partially to herself. "Something happened. Something that gave me a headache like this. And... And Dad, Grandmother, and Minato." Why only them? Why not her mom and her other sister, Kasumi? "We're all Spirit Sensors." Yes, that made sense. But what had happened to cause them all to—?
The pain that shot through her caused her legs to give out; her Pokémon cried out in concern and raced to help, Kama thrusting her arms under Rui's to hold her up by the armpits, Clarence reaching out to hold her as steady as he could with his small arms, and Anahita rushing forward to help him.
"We're going," Kama buzzed. "If the other human doesn't want to go, fine, but we're not staying out here all night to try to convince him."
Anahita pouted but sighed in defeat a moment later. She gave one last entreating look at Isaac.
