"Oh pour l'amour du ciel! You're going to crash!" Senara spat out an sharp curse as, at her words, Gabe and Skye shot forward like a bullet and left her and Neigeux quite well in the dust. Clouds? Whatever it was, she'd spoken way too soon. Well, fine! It wasn't like she needed more practice anyway. Not until the saddle came and she felt comfortable taking the little bug on a longer flight. She'd proven Neigeux could, in fact, fly. That would make getting around Arciel so much faster--and meant she could swing by Pine and get some things before they jumped back onto the heist. "Commencez à descendre, d'accord?" She gave Neigeux's very fluffy shoulders another squeeze. Slowly slowly slowly Neigeux lowered back to the earth until he was once again nearly flat against it, not having any legs to stand on. Literally. Senara slipped backwards until her toes hit the ground and then released him so he could flutter back up to a comfy hovering height. She grinned brightly and gave him one more nuzzle. "Tu as tellement bien fait, donc très très bien~" He nibbled on her bangs, which she giggled and patted his cheek at. "Je vais entraîner le petit maintenant, pour que tu puisses te reposer."
She stepped back, drew his pokeball from her pocket, and in a flash of red light had Neigeux returned. She gave the lid of it a quick kiss before slipping it back in, and this time pulling out a quartet of pokeballs, each with a differently colored gemstone attached to the top; one golden, one silver, one emerald green, and one that appeared to be a white and red gem cut together, almost like a mini-pokeball in itself. She glanced up to see if Gabe was coming back down, or if he'd gone and crashed into something.
She wouldn't be surprised if he had.
"Hey, when you're done playing dragon-rider," she called, "I've got some little ones that need training! One could use some fire safety training, if you catch my drift?"
Senara tossed the handful of Pokemon into the air, releasing a large flash of light as each one took form. The first and most obvious was Baby Girl, her precious Sableye, though she didn't look at all like she had since Gabe last saw her. Her deep purple coat was now shimmering like gold and her pale diamond eyes resembled yellow sapphires, and the red gem on her chest was now a deep green. But she clambered up Senara's shoulder and nestled into her hair just the same. A Gallade took form next, looking around with wide, sparkling red eyes, taking in her surroundings like an excited child.
The last two were the ones she was most focused on today: one was the tiniest little Skarmory she'd ever seen--hardly as large as Baby Girl herself--who took one look around and then quickly ducked her head under her wings like it made her invisible; the other was a rather large Foongus (which, considering normal Foongus were only eight inches tall, was still not saying very much) who began to wobble back and forth as soon as he was out. Wobble wobble wobble. He didn't seem bothered by anything, ever.
<Mushroom dance, mushroom dance, whatever could it mean~> Coccinelle the Gallade began to sing aloud, but the "words" to her singing reached Senara in a way that was getting more and more familiar. Right, she had to introduce Gabe to Napoleon, too, once she was sure the little bastard wasn't going to try to kill somebody the moment he was free. Maaaybe when they were back in Cherry. <You dance so well, Tromper~>
Gabe Alim WC: 642 Time for some tag-removal for Tromper the Foongus and Gazouillis the Skarmory! :D
Gabe was having too much fun. The speed and power with which Skye flew with made the twists and turns and ups and downs of the course they had inadvertently gotten onto all that much more fun. Skye was having fun too. He had only spent his entire life hoping to one day break into the clouds and fly as far as the eye could see, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy having a trainer to share it with. This was something they both could get used to.
At least until Senara’s voice hit the air. Gabe leaned sideways over Skye’s shoulder, and the Salamence slowed somewhat so they both could hear. Ah damn, yeah, that was the other part of this trip wasn’t it? Gabe snorted a little in response before leaning up to Skye. ‘You can keep flying after you drop me off— at the ground,’ he projected with an usual amount of clarity. The Salamence seemed to understand the intention and after snickering a little, she did make the circling path downwards. Her wings beat a few times in a brief float before she landed with a ground-shaking thud. Gabe slipped off slowly gripping her shoulder wing and then one of her scales to get down to the ground again. “Seeya….” was all he’d comment before she leapt up into the air and immediately started to burst about again. Gabe reached back to pull a few hairs out of his face before he turned around to assess Senara and her crew.
Gabe wouldn’t register Baby Girl immediately. She’d slipped up into her hiding place long before he’d landed. He would, however, take note of the Gallade, Skarmory, and the Foongus, none of which he had seen before. He’d been about to say something, his lips had started, but the Gallade’s singing immediately had his lips pressing together. ‘It means you’ve lived a life of sin’ his thoughts projected at the Gallade specifically. He was getting better at that— even with regard to Pokemon not his own.
Right after that, though, he pulled out his own Pokeballs, significantly less decorated but still somehow recognizable to him. In a flash, four Pokeballs were opened: a small hesitant looking Litten, a large happy looking Flareon, and a reserved looking large Houndour, and Lizbeth who immediately folded her arms in front of herself and looked at Senara. ‘Hey…. You don’t have beef with her.’ That was true, but Liz had been in a bad mood for a while now anyways. She made a small huff noise and walked around to find a tree to sit up against for now. Gabe shook his head and refocused for now. "These are my newest Fire types..." he smiled with absolute pride.

Coccinelle sat in front of Tromper the Foongus crisscross-applesauce style, her hands resting on her knees and elbows moving in time with his own wobbling. Despite being a fully evolved Pokemon, she had still only hatched from her egg a few months ago, and still had the excitement and innocence of a child. Senara didn't feel bad for rushing her to evolve, though. Gallade was one of the strongest Psychic-type Pokemon out there, and had the bonus edge of a Fighting-type. It helped that it removed her other typing, too, when she evolved...which, yes, was the real reason Senara had rushed it, but...
Senara strolled up to rest her hands on the Gallade's shoulders as Gabe approached. While she didn't hear what he said to her, Coccinelle was still not so in-tune with her telepathy to single out one mind from everyone else's. <Sin? A life of sin? What does that mean? I don't know what that means.> She pouted out her lower lip and crossed her arms, staring between Gabe and Tromper, who had stopped wobbling to stare at the new Fire-types as they were released. After a moment she tilted her head and blinked. <He said it meant "you have no hyphae to support you". What does that mean?>
Senara frowned a little. She felt like she was missing several parts of the conversation, but had no idea if she even understood the parts that she was getting. "Can we do the talking thing with our mouths for now? So I can participate?" She snipped, and under her hands Coccinelle winced before looking up with a sheepish grin.
<Sorry mama.>
"It's alright, Cocci." She pronounced the nickname like "cookie", even if it didn't quite fit how her full name was said in its native Kalosian. Her attention, like Tromper's, went to the Litten and Houndour and Flareon--and Lizbeth, too, though she sauntered off to be a broody teenager elsewhere--whom she met with a warm little grin. "Aww, regarde-toi! Your fur looks so soft, little Pyroli~" She coo'd and approached the Flareon first, hand extended to let it sniff before she tried to pet them. Suddenly her hair began to shake and from within it out popped the golden Baby Girl who wasted no time in scrambling towards the very large Charmeleon under the tree. Senara blinked and watched her go. When did her precious baby start liking Gabe's most temperamental titan so much?
Senara snorted and shook her head. "I've been abandoned again! Mon pauvre cœur." Standing back up from how she'd been kneeling by the Flareon she placed her hands on her hips, looking up at Gabe with a grin. "They're super cute, by the way. I know you like Fire-types but I didn't realize you were going for a team of kittens and puppies." She snickered. Behind her Tromper had hopped up to look at the Fire-types and...sneer? Was he sneering? He didn't really have a face, but it looked like he was. Senara gave him a downward glance. "So quick warning: this little scrub doesn't think he's a Grass-type, according to the adoption center. So he's not afraid of Fire-types. Would it be mean to, like, ask you to let your littlest ones rough him up a bit so he gets through his thick head that he's not invincible?...I've tried it with my Tepig and Arcanine but the former is a baby and the latter is, uh, too nice to actually battle him. Which isn't bad, but in this situation isn't helping very much. What do you think? Your 'mons up for it?"
Baby Girl meanwhile had reached Lizbeth and was chittering rapidly at her again, waving her claws around as she spoke. There was something not-so-happy in her tone, though. Senara wished she knew what they were saying...or maybe she didn't.
Gabe snickered at the Gallade’s confusion. “It’s just a meme,” he answered only to pause at the follow up comment. “What?” Now Gabe was confused. Senara’s question, though, had him blinking and nodding. “Ah, sure.”
The Flareon was very very very very very very VERY happy to be acknowledged!!! “EEEEE!!!!” she squeaked, not even bothering to sniff Senara’s hand but rather immediately shoving her head forward to be pet. Her bright poofy tail swayed in multiple directions before finally thumping on the ground much more akin to a dog-like Pokemon than a fox-like Pokemon. I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you, human!!!!!
Gabe snorted a little watching this. “She’s going to be impossible to ignore now,” he warned despite grinning a bit at that. "Her name is Amber. Ran into her near the Grumble Volcano or whatever." Bending down, he gave Chloe the Litten a slow reassuring pet and then reached for Bones the Houndour only to be avoided again. Gabe frowned and fought back a sigh. One of these days.... Hopefully today some training would break that... habit. “What can I say? Just so happens many Fire Types are kitties and puppies…”
As the explanation regarding this strange Foongus came about, though, Gabe raised an eyebrow— Only to immediately drop the thought on hearing: “You have an Arcanine??? What a good boy!” he spoke before even realizing it. "I'd love to meet him sometime." A small laugh came and went from him right after. “But ah, yeah, these three are in training and— actually Chloe is …. the Litten is...” He frowned a little sideways at her and then looked forward again. “A little afraid of harming Grass types for some reason. I can’t figure out why, but she keeps locking up around them.” He could always force his way into her thoughts but… ah…. She was already so shy around him sometimes that he'd just rather not.
Little did Gabe realize, Chloe was not afraid of Grass types so much as fascinated and infatuated by them. The Litten just smiled a little weakly trying to keep this secret to herself as much as possible right then. Thinking about that dashing Turtwig too much would actually make her lock up right now which AAAAAAAAAA “Maybe Foongus’ll piss her off if he sasses her or something and get her to actually battle.” Gabe snickered. Oh, oh no. The Litten's ears twitched a little as she looked from Gabe to Senara and then over to the Foongus. Uh.... UHHHHHHHHHH.
Lizbeth had closed her eyes up until a sound of something coming towards her had one opening again. A questionable expression came to her features as she recognized the Sableye— and also that she was now gold. <Hey> A claw raised and gave a small wave in acknowledgment. On hearing the follow up, she gave a low growl. <Yeah I heard at least part of it…. I am going to burn a bitch.>
"I don't know if I approve of you telepathically meme-ing at my Pokemon, Gabby."
Senara rolled her eye at that strange follow-up to Coccinelle's already weird sentence, but didn't have long to consider it before she was attacked viciously by a ball of fire-colored fur. She couldn't help it--Senara knelt down in front of the sweet little Flareon and continued to scratch and pet and snuggle the affectionate little bugger because how in the world could one not do it?? "Aww, douce petite Ambre! Tout comme les yeux de ton papa, non? Tu est si amical! Et doux!" Senara giggled and let herself be nuzzled as much as she could stand without getting knocked over. Literally. "Tellement mignon!"
Coccinelle leaned sideways, still seated like she had been before, and watched Tromper continue to make stink-eyes at the Fire-types in front of him. She looked between him and the Litten. What funny Pokemon, thinking they were one way when they weren't.
"Good girl, actually. Her name is Gentille. She's--oof--a sweetie." Senara managed to speak between frantic bouts of Flareon pets. She finally managed to get herself back up without getting knocked asunder. Woof, she was lucky Lune was so standoffish, she didn't think she could survive that kind of snuggling from more than one Eeveelution in her life. "Huh, a Fire-type scared of Grass-types. Maybe she got attacked by a particularly mean Lotad?" The only way she could reason that a Litten would be scared of anything like a Foongus would be a run-in with one with a surprise type advantage over her. "Poor kitty. It can't be too hard to get him going, honestly. And, like, honestly I think I can trust Baby Girl to handle him. I've got another one to worry about..."
She glanced behind herself. Still with their head tucked under their wing and so still she could have been mistaken for a statue stood the tiny Skarmory. She barely even moved as she breathed. Senara pursed her lips together in a small worried frown. As quietly as she could she took a few steps towards them, only for the Skarmory to suddenly jump back, wings now held behind her as she hissed, puffing herself up to look larger than she was. Senara drew her hand away quickly. "Poor petite chérie...she's so scared of everything, even Pokemon that are completely harmless to her. I can't get so much as a pet in. And I've been nothing but sweet and friendly towards her, I swear! But...then again, despite my looks," she mindlessly tossed a blonde ponytail behind her shoulder, "I have the social graces of a Qwilfish. So...I, um..." Senara began to grumble.
Oi. Just spit it out.
"....I could use somepointerswithgettinghertotrustme."
Baby Girl grit her teeth. With their trainers not paying attention she clambered up a little closer, quite literally trying to get onto Lizbeth's knees so that she wasn't craning her neck so much to look up at the giant Charmeleon. <Last part?? All of it was bad! Why is human drama so bad?? Do not get mad at them. Can see--> she glanced back, her yellow sapphire eyes glinting in the light of Lizbeth's tail, <--my mama is so worried still. But has not said anything! Why don't humans say anything??? Are they dumb??>
Gabe grinned— both at the thought of not being approved to meme and also at the way Senara melted at his friendliest, fluffiest Fire Pokemon to date. Amber was nothing if not excited to receive such love and praise and was quick to lean into Senara all the more all the while offering up excited happy tones. Senara was going to find so much fur stuck to her after this. A small puff of air escaped from him at some of Senara’s words, though. He knew enough Kalosian on its own now to be pretty sure of what she said without having to read her thoughts directly. “Getting lost in my amber eyes are you?” he snickered.
But oh what a good girl then! “I love her,” Gabe corrected quickly enough. What a big pooch. Absolute unit. “I evolved Ruby a bit ago. She’s technically rideable now….” But also a big puppy who had thrown him once already after getting excited by a Pachirisu. They’d have to train a little more before he was comfortable climbing back on again. For now, he refocused on Chloe and the other Pokemon he had out. The latter was swaying from side to side now her gaze flicking from Gabe to Senara and then to the Foongus. Her head dipped a little, and Gabe found himself scratching her ears before he could help himself. Just for… reassurance or whatever.
As the Skarmory was acknowledged, Gabe frowned a bit. Bones the Houndour was evasive, but he had never really attacked or anything. It wasn’t so much fear on his front so much as… distaste and distrust. This was… this was different. Gabe shifted to standing and smirked at Senara briefly. “What was that? I couldn’t hear you….” he grinned toothily— even as he found himself reaching out his mind to find that of the Skarmory’s and send out a: ‘What’s wrong?’
Meanwhile, Amber had decided to flop against Bones causing the latter to fall over with a dramatic huff. Chloe snorted softly and shook out her fur.
Lizbeth shifted a little, bringing up both knees closer to her chest to give Baby Girl more of a seat. A low grumble escaped from her as she looked up and off towards Gabe and Senara. <At least part> she corrected before sighing deeper. For a moment, she allowed a subtle worn expression to come to her features. She was tired in more ways than one. <…. I’m so tired of her almost killing him….> she sighed deeply. <The bitch, not ….. her> she made a claw gesture off towards Senara.

Of course Gabe also had a giant fire dog. He collected the little bastards like a child with gachapon toys. She couldn't remember meeting Ruby in the past though--a Growlithe hadn't been part of his little entourage at the hotel, nor did she remember seeing one with him before. Actually, aside from Gum and Clopper, she'd only meet the Pokemon of his that were Fire-types. He did know others existed, right? She knew he had a Murkrow...and did he mention a Delibird once? Maybe. "I...have no tried to ride my Arcanine yet. I think she'd be fine with it, but, like, I've got Chanceux and it's pretty hard for me to justify not using the twenty-foot-tall metal snake as a bike, y'know?"
While the humans spoke, Tromper trounced a little further from Chloe and Bones into what looked to be the standard distance for an "official" Pokemon battle. That he knew that without Senara needing to say anything made her think that he his prior trainer had at least used him in battle a few times before they got...frustrated at him. Still, she didn't understand how people could give up their Pokemon. They were like tiny people. Flaws or not, throwing somebody away because they were "broken" somehow...
...it resonated with her in a way she didn't want to think about right now.
Baby Girl flopped onto her back so she was sprawled over both of Lizbeth's knees, tongue peeking out from between her teeth in an over-dramatic pose of death. <The one with the brown fur? Uck, something about her energy was rotten. But so is his and so it mama's, sometimes. Everything was rotten then. Why are they always sad?>
<Why don't they just fight like we do, to get the bad energy out? Not to the death. That is bad. But at least until one of them gives up. Do humans do that? Why not??>
Senara's voice coming over the distance between them and the rest of the group made Baby Girl's ears perk. "Petite fille, peux-tu faire équipe avec Tromper un peu? Il a besoin d'apprendre sa leçon sur les fantômes."
<Cooooooooooming maamaaaaaa,> Baby Girl lifted back up into a sitting position and snapped her teeth at her trainer, grumpy to be interrupted. And she didn't want to help train the stupid haughty mushroom. He was so dumb. Still, it was a request from her mom. She wouldn't move until Liz responded to her questions though. That'd be rude.
Gazouillis the Skarmory snapped her beak at Gabe thrice when his words reached her, and he didn't get anything in return. She'd clearly heard him--she wasn't a Dark-type, so she couldn't block him out even if she wanted to--but she was fighting from keeping her thoughts heard. Senara's worry lines deepened. Coccinelle rose up from the floor and walked up behind them, her arms held behind her back and bright eyes glowing faintly with her own psychic energy. She had the tiniest little frown on her face.
<I don't think she wants to talk. I don't think she wants anyone to hear her,> Coccinelle's thoughts reached both humans--and the Skarmory as well--very softly, <There is a lot of pain in her. A lot of fear. But...I can feel that she wants help.> She placed one of her hands on her chest, besides the red plate protruding from it. <I feel it very strongly.>
Senara huffed and turned back to Gazouillis. She forgot that Gallade were still just as empathetic as their Fairy-type alternatives. That was...unnerving. "That's great, chérie, but I can't help her when she tries to peck my fingers off when I get too close."
Gabe Alim WC: 632 Next round, begin the double-battle?
A low growl escaped from Lizbeth in response to Baby Girl. Had she been a second faster, Liz could have ended that wrench once and for all. She could have saved Gabe so much pain. She could have…. protected him from all of this.
Liz rested her elbow on her knee and her cheek in her claw as BG spoke. She couldn’t (and wouldn’t) claim Gabe was anything more than a fiery mess he was, but had Arietta not been around, he would be significantly less of one. Why was everyone so sad? Another low growl came and went from her. There were no good words for a response. A small shake of head was given. She kind of wished they would. She kind of wished Gabe and Ara would just duke it out and then never speak to one another again. But Gabe…. Green spheres raised up to reflect their trainer. …Gabe….
Gabe fidgeted as such concentrated thoughts hit him, and his head turned sideways so his eyes met Liz’s. Senara was calling over to Baby Girl, but Liz was the one forcing her mind up against Gabe’s. ‘Something wrong?’ Liz snapped her jaw and looked away. Gabe sighed and looked forward again. Yeah…. He knew what it was already. Reaching up, he twisted a few fingers through some stray locks of hair and pulled. Anyways….
His attention flickered to the Skarmory for a moment. The Gallade’s assessment was better than any he could have readily made right then. They were such… interestingly powerful psychics. “Have you tried just having another Pokemon work with her?”Like Cookiecat or whatever? On reflection he guessed the answer was probably yes. Eh, better to start with something they could actually do something about for now. Gabe looked at the two Pokemon already seemingly ready for battle.
“Amber, Chloe, you’re up,” Gabe started causing the happy Flareon to immediately perk up and start sauntering over towards the other end of the ‘battle field’. Chloe seemed to hesitate a little but followed after all the same. Maybe she could just focus on …. On… the Sableye, maybe??? Er….. Uh…. Oof.. Please Gabe, please.... “Amber, start with Flame Charge towards— Sableye. Chloe, use Fury Swipes on the Foongus.” On no. Oh darn it.
Amber’s form shined brightly before breaking into bright orange flames. Sprinting forward, she aimed to collide with the Sableye! Chloe, however, was already starting to seize up. She looked at the Foongus and then back at Gabe and then forward again. Could she do this? The mushroom was clearly a Grass type, and she could do so much damage if she wasn't careful and she liked them and and....
fqPz6PpMp_
Nope. Chloe wasn't having it. She shrunk back a little and shook her head instead. Gabe frowned. "Come on...." Gabe muttered under his breath. "Chloe! Fury Swipes!" But she wouldn't because... because if she hurt one then.... then... then...
Watching from the sidelines now, Bones huffed softly to himself. What a useless battle partner the Flareon had.

Without a response outside a sad look, Baby Girl hopped down from Lizbeth's knees and scurried over to where the little battle was getting ready. Tromper finally made an emote of something other than snide disinterest--after all, this fellow Ghost-type Pokemon was just like them! Finally, perhaps their trainer was wising up to his skills. But why were they against two Fire-types? How odd. Baby Girl grinned in greeting at the pair before she rubbed her hands together in anticipation. Senara chuckled at her. "Ne sois pas si content, tu joues juste à la nounou. Tromper, use Bide. Petite fille...hmm."
Senara hesitated in giving the next order, as she saw the Litten freeze up instead of going through with her attack. Yikes. It was bad. But maybe she could help a little.
"Bluff le minou, peut-être qu'elle sortira de sa stupeur."
Baby Girl nodded, and Tromper made a huffing noise of disapproval. Why was he being made to wait before he attacked? It wasn't like he was weak against Fire-types. Baby Girl made a quick leap forward and a few steps in front of the Litten swung her claws in, like she was going to swipe them across the stunned beastie's face, but instead--
CLAP!
Her hands slapped together in front of her face, jarring her hopefully enough to snap out of her momentary panic. It was only when she had pulled back that she noticed a charging fuzzy fire-ball coming at her, and, alas, took Amber right in the face. Ouch.
But it didn't do more than the standard damage. As expected of a Ghost-type. Tromper gave a confident nod. Surely he would be just as well-off if they managed to hit him.
Coccinelle gave Gabe a funny look, then snickered. Had she heard the name he called her? Possibly. She was much younger than she looked, and her powers were strong. A little too strong for a creature her age. Oh well. <I tried a few times. So did mama's other Psychic. But he's just kind of mean and I think it did more harm than good...> She gave a small glance at Senara again, whose cheeks were reddening in embarrassment.<Mama is scared that she will frighten her, even if she tries to be gentle. She isn't bad at it she's just not very genuine sounding when she's really trying? Which is a little fun-->
"Soyez silencieuse, Cocci," Senara snapped, now quite red behind her blonde hair.
Coccinelle pouted. <Sorry.>
Behind them, Gazouillis was lowering her wings a little. The focus was off her again, but she was still tense and ready to go back to snarling and hissing if that changed.
Gabe Alim WC: 467 She only sounds sincere and sweet when she's faking it. Oops.
Clap! The noise crackled in the Litten’s ears, and she poofed up immediately eyes wide pupils small. Gabe slapped a hand over his mouth to keep himself from laughing at poor Chloe’s expense. “Chloe! Earth to Chloe!” he called. The Litten shook her head immediately after. O-oh. Amber, meanwhile, knocked into the Sableye right before leaping back and somersaulting backwards right after! Landing front feet and then back feet, she immediately waggled her entire body in excitement!
“You good now, Chloe?” he asked. The Litten blushed a deep burgundy in embarrassment. It was…. it was just… “Amber, use Flame Charge on Foongus…” That should force it to realize, yeah? Or also maybe along with that for good measure. “Chloe… use Fury Swipes on Sableye.” Amber was quick to perk up and go bouncing at the Foongus now! Look at the embers forming around her body! She was having so much fun! Fun fun fun! Leaping at the Foongus now, she aimed to hit her on the circular Pokeball part of her head! Chloe was so thankful to not have to face the Foongus immediately that she altogether did not realize the type of order Gabe had given. Rushing forward, she aimed to claw at the Sableye— as if her Normal Type attack wouldn’t just faze through a Ghost.
The conversation had gone on, though, and Gabe found himself changing focus. It was hard to both pay attention to the battle and carry on the conversation, but he could try. Why not. His gaze flicked from Cocci to Senara and stayed on the latter. A small smirk pulled across his features. “My she’s sharing all of your secrets now isn’t she?” he teased. Granted…. There were less secrets between them now a days anyways…. “Bones why don’t you have a go at it?” he asked. The Houndour huffed and rested his maw on his paws. He had no obligations to anyone, thank you very much.
Senara winced a little as Baby Girl landed in a heap from being tackled by an overly excited puppy that was on fire, but she got back to her feet quickly with only a small irate grumble in Amber's direction. Puppies. Arceus have mercy. Thankfully Chloe was the next one to go for her. Claws extended from the shaken kitten and Baby Girl didn't so much as flinch away from it. No sooner had the hit made contact than--whup!--her body phased directly through it, in wisps of golden phantasm, leaving Baby Girl untouched.
"Ombre Portée, petite fille! Mais faites-le bien!"
Baby Girl grinned at Chloe. <Hi there. Bye there.> And just like that she disappeared into her own shadow. For a moment she was gone, then from beneath Chloe's feet a large clawed hand shot up from the Litten's own shadow and caught her with a swift hit to the side. The use of shadow and trickery was natural to Ghosts, after all.
So when Tromper saw how easily Baby Girl had taken the Fire-type hit, and completely avoided the Normal-type move, he was just as convinced the same would be true to him.
He was in for a rude surprise. Amber dived at him the same way she had Baby Girl, and without fear he stood his ground, only to be struck--and suddenly everything hurt. He could feel his flesh getting too hot, and it hurt so so so much worse than it looked like it had! Tromper jerked away from Amber and hissed in pain, holding his arms where he'd been burned. What? What?? Why did it hurt him so much when the other Ghost-type had been fine!...maybe, just maybe, it had been a trick. Somehow. Or maybe they were a Ghost-type and a Grass-type? Like a Phantump! Or a Pumpkaboo! Of course! Well, they would surely be more careful next time. All the same, they were biding their time...
Senara rolled her eyes. Eye. Whatever. The gesture was weakened by the fact that her cheeks were still almost as red as Amber's fur. "Shut up. Look, I know she's fully evolved, but she's still really young. She doesn't have a lot of control over what she hears or says. So just stop asking her weird questions or saying weird shit to her." At her side, Coccinelle's pout turned into full-on puppy-eyes and a quivering lip, and Senara, seeing it, felt the heat of shame spreading through her chest. "Not that you're a bad Pokemon, Cocci! You're--you just need to learn to control it better. I'm not saying to stop. Just." She turned her head sharply away and muttered more in Kalosian.
I know it's not her fault. She's just a baby. Now I look like the asshole...
...and if either of you are listening to this I'm going to start thinking of bad pop songs.
Coccinelle, either hearing Senara or having trouble staying upset for more than a second, looked up at the Houndour when Gabe said his name. <Oh! He's such a large boy! I'm sure with somebody like him, Gazouillis will feel super protected! Please try!>
Gabe snorted softly at Senara’s words. Distantly, he wondered if Harriet might help with getting Coccinelle up to speed. But eh, he wasn’t ready to hand out his teacher to another just yet. Not…. Not yet. He’d be distracted by Bones right after and subsequently miss Senara’s thoughts— for the moment.
Bones folded his ears down against his skull as Coccinelle spoke to him— or rather about him. Even if he was a Dark type who could block that out if he really wanted to, he kind of wanted to hear as much as possible anyways. At the instance to please try, though, he groaned and felt just a little bit obligated. Slowly getting up of his own accord, he looked at Coccinelle and then towards Gazouillis. His ears flicked up, down, and finally one stood up and the other stood down. He didn’t really want to approach and get pecked— He took one step forward, waited, and then would make another if the Skarmory didn’t immediately attack. He’d stop walking right after that and simply wait a few beats before repeating the maneuver. He was careful… and quiet.
Gabe would see Bones’ motions but was watching the battle again now.
Fazing through the Sableye, Chloe went falling through to the other side. Landing on forelegs first, she tripped and rolled forward into an awkward seated position. It was only after the fact that she realized what had happened. Turning around to watch Baby Girl fall into her own shadow, she immediately sprung up again. Where did she go??? Before she got a full chance to look around, Chloe suddenly felt claws shoving her upwards and raking her sideways. A sharp, startled cry escaped from her! And she went falling and crashing sideways right after. Struggling to get up, Chloe shook out her coat and made a low noise of frustration. She should have seen that coming, probably.
“You alright, Chloe?” Gabe’s voice came. The Litten grumbled but nodded her head. She was alright. “Switch tactics here in a second and get ready to use Fury Swipes on the Foongus.” Oh… Oh no. Not again…..
An excited cry escaped from Amber as her flame body went colliding with another Pokemon! This time the Foongus! Even as Tromper jerked away, Amber bounced about happily! Huzzah! Bowing down and stomping her feet to a rhythm of her own design, the Flareon waited for a return attack! Play play play play!
“Chloe, now!” Gabe called. Chloe….

Chloe couldn't move. She stood frozen again. At teh corners of her eyes, tears welled. No matter what, she didn't want to hurt a Grass type! She didn't ever want to make ... make that Turtwig she'd liked so much feel like he was weaker! No matter where he was! She shook her head! And Gabe frowned. This was getting out of hand.... And he found himself just frustrated enough to reach at her thoughts. 'Chloe'
p_
Chloe immediately reeled. Hackles raised, she stood on end, eyes wide, pupils unfocused. She looked from the battle and then towards Gabe and... then went sprinting towards Senara instead? Gabe raised a hand to his forehead and then ended up slapping himself in the face instead.
Bones' slow, careful approach was being watched more carefully by Senara and Coccinelle than the battle, but given that Baby Girl was very strong and Tromper, uh, in her care so to say, Senara wasn't worried about them. She was more worried about Gazouillis. She wished she could have known what happened to scare the little bird so badly in her life, and how she could help her. But as long as she kept her thoughts quiet to Coccinelle and Senara couldn't read more than anger in her actions...they were at a stand-still. Which was why when Bones began pawing closer and Gazouillis began to fluff (metaphorically "fluff" since her feathers were metalic) up again and ducked her head, she winced a little. Was it not going to be any good? Senara was willing to take things nice and slow if need be, but first, there needed to be somebody she trusted.
Still, she didn't start snapping and snarling at Bones right away, so maybe this was a good start? Instead she was just shaking her feathers to make them click and clatter.
Maybe because he's smaller than I am? And even Coccinelle? But then Napoleon...
...well, no, Napoleon is just an asshole, so even if he was her size she'd hate him.
Now Tromper had more than enough energy from all the hits he'd taken to dish it back as strong as he could! He looked between the offending Flareon to Chloe, only to see that she was stock still. Baby Girl, standing in front of her, even waved a hand in front of her face. <Uhhh, hello? Sableye to Litten. Come in Litten?> Baby Girl didn't want to swing a hit at an unresponsive target, that'd be unsportsmanli--
Coccinelle flinching made Senara turn just in time to hear rapid tiny footsteps rushing right for her. Half expecting to see Baby Girl she was already starting to reach out for them, only to spot Gabe's Litten making a dead rush for her. A moment of hesitation was all it took for a sudden swing from Tromper, a sound following the strike so shrill--and so strange, where did it even come from, he didn't have a mouth--that it could stun the Litten in place. Senara winced and took a small step back, but Baby Girl...grinned.
Astonish was a Ghost-type move. Huh. So the weird mushroom did have some basis for his delusions. Not a good one, but that made things make a little more sense.
All the same, poor Chloe.
"Is she okay??" Senara started moving forward to make sure. Why had Chloe come charging at her? Had it been startled? Coccinelle frowned between Chloe and Gabe.
<You scared her. She's already really on edge, why would you do that?>
Senara glanced over her shoulder at Coccinelle and back at Gabe again. Was this a psychic thing? This was a psychic thing. And it just made her even more confused.
Bones paused and then slowly dropped down onto his stomach and lay his muzzle in his paws. He didn’t say anything but sort of just kept staring at the strange Skarmory. Waiting. He was a pack Pokemon. He knew the ins and outs of group mentality, and that came with care and compromise. Even if…. He hadn’t…. really had a pack per say in a while. He really didn’t… consider Gabe’s group a pack. Not yet.
“Chloe!” Gabe snapped as she took off running at Senara. But in that moment the ridiculous mushroom released a move that sealed the Litten to the spot. She stood, hackles raised, pupils slits, but startled and…….. frozen. She …. Uh…. couldn’t move now, actually.
Gabe scrambled over to Chloe and immediately sank down to her level. She looked sideways at him and then straight forward at Senara again, pupils still slitted. Coccinelle’s scolding had Gabe frowning and looking back up towards the Gallade. “…Ugh….” Looking back to Chloe, Gabe carefully raised a hand and gently pressed down the raised fur. Chloe slowly… very slowly… seemed to relax again.
….And then she was crying.
A yowl escaped from the Litten, and Gabe flinched. His hands twitched before he managed to pick her up and immediately start petting her. “Easy… easy….” Gabe sighed a little dejectedly now and stood up slowly. “Sorry, I know it’s too much pressure.” He kept petting the Litten gently, and slowly she relaxed again. “I know you’re scared of them but….” Ugh. Maybe a battle wasn’t really the way to handle—
<N-n-n-not scared….!!>
“Mmm???”
<Don’t want to hurt them. I’m Fire.>
A look very uncharacteristic of Gabe’s general persona pulled onto his features: genuine surprise. “What???” he asked out loud now even as his features twisted about trying to find something less surprised and confused to settle on.
<Don’t want to hurt them. Grass types….. can get really hurt….>
Gabe shifted Chloe into one arm and rubbed the side of his face. Looking at Senara, he forced a small smirk. “…. Looks like I’ve…. Been misreading what was wrong…. She seems to like Grass Types, and doesn’t want to see them hurt by her Typing.” He kind of wanted to set something on fire now, actually. LOL.
Amber stood there confused! Tilting her head from one side to the other, she looked at the Sableye and the Foongus. What did she miss? She didn’t understand! Looking back towards Lizbeth, she called out loudly. Liz looked up from her spot at the tree and frowned. Chloe was lucky she was still small enough to be picked up like that. Ugh.

Gazouillis didn't "soften", so to speak, while Bones eased into a more relaxed posture. Her body was still up-tight and made to look larger than she really was. However she did tilt her head just so to imply she was questioning what he was doing. He wasn't approaching her. Just resting within her personal space. That read as...something. She wasn't sure what. But he wasn't getting closer, wasn't invading her space, wasn't trying something with those sharp teeth and heavy paws. She was interested, but still scared.

Slowly, very slowly, she began to lower her wings. She didn't approach him, but she was letting down her aggressiveness. She was curious, and confused, but interested in him.
A shame Senara's attention wasn't on it. Her eye was focused on Gabe and his poor, poor crying kitty. Despite herself her expression softened, utterly heartbroken at the sound of Chloe wailing. How could she not be? Tromper, not too far from Gabe's feet, huffed up at the two of them with a bit less care and compassion. What was this weird cat doing. Was it or was it not a Pokemon?? Why wasn't it fighting him?? Was it afraid of ghosts? Well, too bad for it then. Baby Girl just stared at Tromper very, very flatly. Going for a blow against the Litten might have stopped it from hurting Senara--if that had even been the goal--but looking like he was gloating about it was getting on her nerves.
Quickly, though, Senara's worry became confused. Once again, she was only getting half of the conversation, and judging from Gabe's expression--funny as it was--it was one hell of a weird one. Coccinelle behind her made a audible noise that was either understanding or bemusement or the strangled start of a laugh. Whatever it was she snapped her hands over her mouth to stop more from coming out. Before Senara could ask for context, it was given to her. And it was her turn to blink incredulously. "She's..." Oh. What? Oh. Senara looked down at Tromper who had the decency at least to look as surprised (for a mushroom) as the rest of them. Baby Girl was just holding her face in her paws and snickering. Helpful, her. "Well that's not as bad as getting beat up by a Lotad but that's...uhh, interesting. I thought Pokemon just kind of knew their fighting was for sport? Or at least that they could heal? Like...Tromper, Mega Drain on Amber."
Not needing to be told twice--and grateful for the distraction from whatever this was--the mushroom turned around and shot a few lights at the Flareon. They spun around her, gathering wisps of life from her, before returning. His burns began to heal, though given how strong the attack was against him versus how little his attack did to her, they were not completely gone. He still looked a lot better though. Senara pointed to Tromper while keeping her gaze on Chloe, trying to smile a little. "See? Look, his burns are going away. I have stuff in my bag to do it even faster. He's only a little singed."
Would this be helpful? Arceus, a Litten scared of hurting Grass-types, a Foongus who thought it was immune to Normal-type attacks, and a Skarmory scared of everything. Senara couldn't help it and snorted into her palm. "Pfft, we got the luck of the draw here, Gabby. I mean, like, none of our Pokemon are 'normal' but good fucking lord."
Bones’ eyes held on the Skarmory, but he made no motion towards or back from her. Even as she started to lower her wings and shift back to normal size, he waited quietly. Finally, he closed his eyes entirely and just listened… and waited some more.
Gabe was vaguely aware of the Foongus looking up at him but couldn’t be asked to shift his attention away from the Litten in his arms yet. He was… just dumbfounded and vaguely annoyed. How did he even begin to address this? How did he just??? Anything??? It made more sense if she had been traumatized or something. C’mon now…. “Right?” he muttered after Senara’s words causing Chloe’s ears to fold against her head. Right after, an example was even given.
Amber leapt around as the Mega Drain took some energy from her! It stung a little but was kind of more annoying than anything! Shaking out her fur, she huffed a little! She hadn’t been ready! Chloe, however, was watching as the Foongus’s burns started to fade…. O-o-oh?
“It’s not any longer-lasting damage than what you get from battling,” Gabe commented alongside this.
Some soft color touched the skin under the Litten’s fur. <B-b-but actual plants burn so badly!>
“They’re not the same as regular plants…” Gabe answered. “Besides, even regular plants need fire to restart their life cycles or whatever. That shouldn’t even be a….” Gabe’s cheeks puffed a little irritably.
Senara’s comment, though, had Gabe snorting a little softly. “I mean I guess they have to put up with us in return so…” Breath left his cheeks, and he managed an easier smile now. His hand reached up and slowly scratched Chloe’s ears this time, and slowly the Litten relaxed a little more. Looking down towards the Foongus again, she said nothing for a moment before looking up to Gabe once again. “Feeling better?” She was… at least a little bit.
A pause. “Do you want to try battling again?” Gabe asked carefully. Chloe froze momentarily looking from Senara to Gabe and then down to Tromper again. She…. she…. supposed? She supposed maybe? A low uncertain noise escaped from Chloe again before the she nodded slowly. She supposed.
Huzzah! Amber barked and wagged her entire body!!! Understanding had been reached!!! (Maybe??) Gabe fidgeted at the sudden bark and then smirked a little before slowly lowering Chloe to the ground again. She stood abet shakily for a moment before managing to capture herself enough to show a hint of determination. Good. “Think we’re ready to go again,” Gabe stated stepping back to give Chloe and Amber some more room again. He’d wait just a moment longer before being seemingly sure and ordering an attack— first for Chloe. “Fury Swipes, Chloe…”

Chloe took slow steady, shaky breaths… She…. could do this. She…. could do this. It wasn’t going to permanently harm the Grass type Pokemon right in front of her. He’d be ok. All of them would be ok. She could do this. She….. Taking in a sharp breath, Chloe went sprinting forward and managed to raise a claw and swipe at the Foongus.
Gabe visibly deflated some. Thank fuck. “Amber, use Flame Charge on Sableye,” he ordered after the fact. Amber was quick to bounce forward with fiery speed towards the Sableye in question.

Gazouillis' body had gone neutral--not relaxed, but no longer rigid with fear and anger. The Houndour was still there, still not moving closer, and had even closed its eyes. It was as non-aggressive as he could be, outside rolling onto his back or the like. But for the life of her she couldn't understand why. She'd only know Pokemon and people to be aggressive, to be loud and demanding and forceful. He was so calm, and in a way, it calmed her. She wasn't sure that she liked it. Still, after a moment longer, she clicked her beak in his direction. <...why are you doing that? Aren't you afraid I'll peck you?> .
"Rappelez-moi que les terres les plus fertiles ont été construites par les incendies de volcans..." Senara mused, more under her breath than aloud as Gabe tried to better help Chloe understand herself. It was a strange pair, but in a way it suited them. They were already pretty strange people, what were equally strange Pokemon but a natural follow-up? Tromper huffed again and scooted himself into position once more while Baby Girl snickered at Amber's reaction to getting drained. <Fluffy fluffy Fire-type. Have a little Eevee back home, he's nowhere near as sweet. You should give him lessons~>
Chloe of her own free will jumped back into the "ring", and Senara took a spot behind her Pokemon like it were a real battle and not some kind of physical therapy session. "Petite fille, prépare une attaque de feinte. Tromper, use Bide again." If he was going to be focused, may as well not have him go off on the poor spooked kitty. It took her a little longer than normal after Gabe's call. Quite a bit. Baby Girl even yawned to exaggerate things. But once she started moving, claw raised at Tromper, Senara grinned brightly.
Good for her. And not-so-good for Tromper!
As the Normal-type attack came down he didn't even move, and didn't look the least bit worried. After all he'd seen the same attack phase right through the Sableye! He would be fine! At least, that was what he believed. Sure enough the claws raked down across his squishy mushroom head and made him yelp in shock before jumping away. What--
[>75 for Realization] p_
[Nnnnnnnnnope.]
It must be some kind of a trick! Maybe this attack isn't Normal-type?? YES, it must be a totally different type of move! Or she used Foresight before it to hit me! Yes, those were the only explanations!! Tromper grumbled and held fast, stubby arms held like a fighting pose. Senara looked at him with a funny little frown. "What are you doing, Tromp...?"
Oh, if only she could read his mind. Maybe Coccinelle wo--
Wait where is she.
Senara looked around, blinking. She hadn't heard any footsteps or even seen her moving away. And she wasn't short, either. Where had she gone off too?
Suddenly from next to the tree Lizbeth was sitting against, Coccinelle teleported into existence, smiling down at her. Well, "down". Even sitting Lizbeth was a little above her height. <Hello! I noticed you are all by yourself and didn't want you to be lonely! I'm Coccinelle! It's very nice to meet you...> She tilted her head, trying to remember if she had heard the Charmeleon's name from her trainer's mind. She hadn't. Darn. Oh well.
Bones said nothing immediately. He considered Gazouillis’s words thoughtfully before actually replying. <….I want to be your comrade.> he decided. <….Getting pecked is not the worst thing in the world.> He opened his eyes again and stared at her feet before slowly looking up to her eyes.
A rush of something crashed over Chloe as her claw made contact with the (partial?) Grass type Pokemon. It wasn’t exhilaration, exactly, but a weird mix of excitement and immediate regret. Oh gosh. Oh gods. She hoped that they were right and that she hadn’t just maimed a Grass type forever…. “Good work, Chloe,” Gabe’s voice came in and soothed the Litten just a little. She straightened a bit and took in a shaky breath. With his focus just a little off Chloe now, though, Gabe managed to catch a few of Tromper’s thoughts. “What—“ His attention would be yanked, however, by an all too familiar hiss that reverberated in his ears.
Lizbeth physically startled when the Gallade appeared right in front of her. Her draconic eyes turned to slits, and a deep throated hiss escaped from her. Her claw raised, and she was very ready to swipe it across Coccinelle— only perhaps paused by the Gallade’s mental words. Squinting, Liz slowly lowered her claw again.

<Go away.> Liz's growl had a sort of rumbling to it that only a beast with a maw could.
"Liz???" Gabe had since forgotten Chloe (and her achievements) and was suddenly walking quickly in her direction. The Charmeleon looked off towards him and growled a little causing him to stop where he was. Gabe stood there for a moment awkwardly, his features twisting up a little.
Chloe looked awkwardly from Gabe to Tromper and then back again. Why did Liz's.... Lizness... have to get in the way of what she was doing? That wasn't fair! She hadn't even been doing anything! At least Chloe had been making progress! Looking back at Tromper again, Chloe puffed up just a little in equal parts confusion and frustration. The happy as ever Amber had looked over when Liz had made that horrible sound and immediately shrugged it off as drama she didn't want to particularly mess with. Sal good, she vibin where she was until further notice. Looking sideways at Chloe, though, she walked over and ruffled her fur a little in reassurance- which just sort of frustrated the Litten rather than helped her.

[Alright that does it she's with me in ALL gym battles from now on FFS]
<...comrade?>
It took a couple more moments. Time passing in otherwise still silence. But with Bones' eyes on hers Gazouillis stepped (more hopped, really, because she was a bird) closer to him, until she was by his side rather than being so far away. She didn't sit with him. Did not dare to relax completely. But this was...close. This was being close to somebody who wasn't making demands of her, or yelling at her, or anything bad like that. He could reach out a paw and swipe her at any second. And yet, for some reason, she didn't think that he would even if he had the chance. <I don't remember anyone trying to be my "comrade". I remember somebody wanting to be my "master". It's...not the same.>
Senara's heart almost leaped out of her mouth when she heard snarling from the nearby trees and Gabe's immediate reaction to it. She stepped quickly to the side so she could see around him. Coccinelle you imbécile!! Why are you with her?!? She's dangerous!!
Coccinelle's red eyes went wide and she took half a step away as the very sharp, very large paw of Lizbeth rose up in front of her, but she didn't look scared. Her expression was more surprised and alert than frightened. Fear, she felt, wasn't warranted, and she was proven right as the claws fell back to Liz's side and she only growled angrily at her. Coccinelle's smile returned. <I can if you want me to, but I can feel that you need help! I don't know what with but I thought it was help not being by yourself. Is that not it?>
The closer Gabe got, the easier he'd pick up on Coccinelle's thoughts, not properly trained enough to keep from broadcasting in a small but still general area. Senara was out of it. Coccinelle looked up as he came to a weird halt a little ways away. <Hello. I thought she was all by herself so I came to sit with her! It isn't like anyone over there needs me. Gazouillis is happy and Chloe is learning and Tromper is, um, Tromper! So I can be here instead!> She made a sound somewhat human in nature, but too trilling and high-pitched to be entirely so. It also came out without her moving her mouth. Which was a little weird. <You are very large, Liz. Do you eat a lot of berries? Mama says a lot of berries helps you grow big and strong but she just eats a lot of pastries...>
Baby Girl sighed and planted her face firmly into the flat of her palm, claws tapping into the yellow diamonds that were her eyes--it didn't bother her, for some reason. Arceus. <Teaching that hatchling teleport was the biggest mistake you've ever made, mama.>
Senara swallowed, not hearing Baby Girl's snide remark, and, instead, looked down at Chloe and Amber. Oh, poor Chloe, she'd been doing so well and then they stalled. "You're doing really good, petit chaton. And see? He's barely scratched. He's okay."
Tromper huffed. "Barely scratched". Right. Because it had been a weird fluke.
A slow snorted breath escaped from Bones, and his eyes flicked sidways over to Gabe and company. <I believe in packs…. whose alpha is not the master…. But the protector.> He missed his old one dearly, and realizing that again had him sighing deeply. He could only hope that he’d see something of his old home within this new one, but so far he was unimpressed.
Lizbeth frowned at Coccinelle. She didn’t like this psychic, not one bit. She could feel that she needed help? What did that even mean. Her head tilted some at Coccinelle and then turned entirely as Gabe came up.
Meanwhile, Gabe caught the last few statements and came to a slow stop in front of Liz. She frowned at him. He frowned back. “….You ok, Liz?” Gabe didn’t need to be an empath to be aware the answer was still ‘no’, but he had no idea how to begin to correct for it. So, he just sighed instead. “Don’t hurt her, ok?” was the sole request.
Liz looked back at Coccinelle who’d just mentioned her size in tandem. A low rumbling echoed in her throat. She made no promises when this youngin’ was calling her huge. Even if she was huge. <Don’t startle me again> was the small order back before she folded her arms and claws into herself and leaned back into the tree a little more.
Briefly, Gabe glanced back at Senara, set a hand over his mouth and grinned passed it. “Your Gallade’s calling you fat.” His eyes then fell downwards to Chloe and Amber again, and his features fell. Whoops uh….Ah well. He’d deal with that in a second. Looking forward again, he addressed Liz again. “Do you want to be returned?” Liz shook her head. Gabe gave a small nod.
Chloe sighed deeply and looked up at Senara. She was thankful for the encouragement even if it did come from the other trainer here. She glanced sideways at Tromper again and slowly nodded. Ok. Ok at least…. At least she wasn’t doing too much damage. A small catty sound came and went from her. Amber, meanwhile, wriggled her entire body itching to get back to battle again! It had been so much fun!
After a few more questions of assurance, Gabe turned and started over towards Senara and company again. Looking at Chloe, he frowned and then bent down briefly. “Sorry, I know it’s your time to shine….” he murmured reaching to scratch her ears. "Just got worried..." The Litten gave a lower ‘murrrr’ after the fact and tried her best to perk herself up again. Liz couldn’t ruin everything! They were still doing so well! R-right?
